SUMMARY:Summer Teen Art Project Celebration at Missoula Art Park / Missoula Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Missoula Art Museum’s Celebration of the Summer Teen Art Project culminating with the unveiling of a stunning 14′ x 10′ public mural honoring the state’s ecosystem heroes – bison\, beavers\, and prairie dogs at Missoula Art Park 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm Thursday\, August 14\n\n\n\n\n\nTeens explored Montana’s keystone species through art\, culminating in the unveiling of a stunning 14′ x 10′ public mural honoring the state’s ecosystem heroes—bison\, beavers\, and prairie dogs. Created collaboratively under the guidance of Resident Artist Joanna LaPorte\, the mural reflects weeks of learning\, creativity\, and connection. The Summer TAP (Teen Art Project) was conceptualized earlier this year and brought to life under the direction of Janaína Vieira-Marques\, MAM’s Educator and Outreach Coordinator\, who also served as a mentor and artistic coordinator throughout the program. \n\n\n\nMade possible with major support from the Missoula Downtown Foundation\, the Montana Arts Council\, the Llewellyn Foundation\, and Adventure Cycling. Special thanks to Front Street Pizza for weekly pizza donations.

SUMMARY:Torrents First Friday: REFORGE - Two Voices with Cameron and Quinton Decker at Confluence Center
DESCRIPTION:Torrents presents First Friday: REFORGE – Two Voices with Cameron and Quinton Decker at the Confluence Center in Downtown Missoula 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday\, August 1\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Confluence Center (Western Montana’s Home for Nonprofit Events) art program Torrents is thrilled to present a magical evening of art and community! This month we proudly present a duo exhibit by brothers Cameron & Quinton Decker. \n\n\n\nCameron and Quinton Decker are both multidisciplinary artists keenly aware of the importance of history and ancestry.. Cameron’s art practice is guided by intuition\, memory\, and connection to place. His work with natural materials carries meaning\, memory\, and deep time of geological histories compressed into color. Whether working in painting\, drawing\, printmaking\, or public art\, Cameron’s hope is to honor those who have shaped him.Quinton’s work spans painting\, sculpture\, and photography exploring themes of identity\, perception and social mythology. This exhibit will feature two bodies of work in painting and photography\, the first which reframes dehumanizing mythical creatures in order to examine power of the colonial imagination; and in the other\, to examine humanity and the erosion of the American Dream. Together\, the work reflects on what it means to be seen—as human\, as monstrous\, or as something in between.Join us for the exhibit opening on First Friday\, August 1\, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm\, which will include live music at 7:00 pm by Foreshadow\, plus free snacks and drinks. The exhibit will remain on display through August 29 and can be seen by appointment through the Center: 406-926-6526

SUMMARY:First Friday Hamilton - Nate Closson painting exhibit opening "Light at Last" at Cassens Fine Art
DESCRIPTION:Cassens Fine Art presents “Light At Last\,” a solo exhibition by Montana painter Nate Closson\, with an opening artist reception on Downtown Hamilton’s First Friday\, June 6 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\nCassens Fine Art is proud to present “Light At Last\,” a solo exhibition by Montana painter Nate Closson. Opening with an artist reception on Friday\, June 6\, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm\, the exhibition will be on view throughout the month. Closson’s work is rooted in the rhythms of the Western landscape\, capturing the transition from winter’s stillness to the promise of spring. Horses\, ranch houses\, long shadows and warm light come together in compositions that feel both intimate and grounded. \n\n\n\nClosson’s process begins outdoors\, and the moments are developed into carefully structured paintings that unfold in layers. “Nate’s work carries the weight of lived experience\,” says Michelle Cassens\, owner and curator of Cassens Fine Art. “There’s a clarity in these paintings that comes from someone who understands the land\, the light and the silence that define it.” \n\n\n\n“Light At Last” is both a celebration of the Montana landscape and a personal reflection on resilience. Created in the wake of a difficult year marked by loss and recovery\, this body of work is Closson’s meditation on emergence\, warmth and the return of vitality. Horses appear not as distant figures\, but as near-life-sized presences—symbols of movement\, energy and belonging. \n\n\n\nStandout works include Summer at Last\, a field scene at Mad Wolf Ranch where mustangs cluster in the sun\, their golden coats glowing against sun-faded grasses. In Mustangs and the Ranch House\, horses and home share the frame equally\, neither diminished\, each anchoring the composition with quiet power. “These paintings are about more than what’s shown\,” Cassens adds. “They remind us of the good\, enduring things and the light that always comes back.” \n\n\n\nCassens Fine Art invites the community to experience “Light At Last” and to join us in welcoming Nate Closson on First Friday\, June 6\, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Opening Reception.
