The group features the unique vocal abilities of Magda Chaney\, who sings expertly in Portuguese and is adept at a wide range of classic Brazilian styles. Utilizing a broad range of rhythms and percussion patterns\, the band conveys the magical spirit of Brazilian Carnival! Composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim\, Gilberto Gil\, Caetano Veloso\, Vinicius Moraes\, Edu Lobo\, plus many others\, are represented in Canta Brasil’s highly danceable repertoire. With Magda Chaney on vocals\, David Horgan on guitar\, Beth Lo on bass\, Graeme Pletscher on saxophone\, Naomi Siegel on trombone\, Pedro Marques on vocals and percussion\, and Ed Stalling on percussion.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the swingin’ sounds of Canta Brasil at a fundraiser and potluck for the Bitterroot XC Ski Club 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Friday\, November 14 at Rocky Mountain Grange #116 in Hamilton\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the fifth year in a row the Hamilton Grange is hosting their “Live at the Grange” Concert Series\, and this year the November concert is a benefit for the Bitterroot XC Ski Club. Come support the Ski Club\, and dance to the tunes of Canta Brasil on the best dance floor in town. Weather permitting\, the Ski Club will be waxing cross country skis by donation\, so bring your skis on down and get ready for snow.Potluck starts at 6:00 pm. Music from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:The Confluence Center’s art program Torrents is thrilled to present a special group exhibition “Raiz y Rama” (Root and Branch)\, guest curated by local Latina artist Krissy Ramirez\, and meant to coincide with Día de los Muertos in Downtown Missoula 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm First Friday\, November 7\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Confluence Center (Western Montana’s Home for Nonprofit Events) art program Torrents is thrilled to present a magical evening of art and community! This month we proudly present the special group exhibition Raiz y Rama” (Root and Branch)\, guest curated by local Latina artist Krissy Ramirez\, and meant to coincide with Día de los Muertos. \n\n\n\n“Raiz y Rama” will highlight universal themes of life and death\, and how traditions of Día de los Muertos have transcended through geographical boundaries. From ruminations on the strength of the human spirit where hope\, healing\, and the freedom that follows can shatter boundaries\, to the ceramic recreation of favorite cultural dishes that bring loved ones together\, to communications with the spirit realm\, this exhibit will display a variety of viewpoints on the beloved cultural holiday as well as what makes us all human despite differences. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit will feature seventeen local and national Latine artists in a variety of media. We’re proud to feature select works by: \n\n\n\nRachel Calderón-Navarro\, Patricia Countryman\, April Dearduff\, Andrea Garcia\, Monica Gilles-BringsYellow\, Nicole Hamm\, Hannah Kautto\, Diana Ingalls Leyba\, José Galván Martinez\, Marissa Nestor\, Vesna Vera O’Connor\, Lauren Orozco\, Ismara Partidas\, Dina Perlasca\, Krissy Ramirez\, Fiorella Michelis-Rosas\, and Fernando Serrano. \n\n\n\nGet a sneak peak at the exhibit during our 3rd Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration on Sunday\, November 2  from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Then\, join us for the exhibit opening on First Friday\, November 7 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm\, which will include live music by Canta Brasil\, plus free traditional Latin snacks and drinks.
