DESCRIPTION:The Vienna Boys Choir is coming to Kalispell for a performance at Wachholz College Center on the FVCC Campus at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Sunday\, October 18\n\n\n\n\n\nWCC is pleased to welcome VIENNA BOYS CHOIR to the Flathead Valley. \n\n\n\nThe Vienna Boys Choir is one of the world’s most famous and oldest choirs.  \n\n\n\nBoys have sung at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel since at least 1296.  \n\n\n\nIn 1498\, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I established a Court Chapel in Vienna\, specifying that boys be included among the singers – thus laying the foundation for the Choir.  \n\n\n\nToday\, the former imperial ensemble is a private\, non-profit organization with a primary and grammar school serving 330 boys and girls ages six to nineteen\, with a curriculum centered on choral music and singing.  \n\n\n\nThe Choir’s education\, recognized by UNESCO as cultural heritage\, is open to all\, regardless of origin\, gender\, nationality\, or religion. \n\n\n\nThere are currently 90 active choristers divided into four touring choirs\, all performing as the “Vienna Boys Choir.”  \n\n\n\nTogether\, they give nearly 300 concerts each year to almost half a million listeners.  \n\n\n\nSince 1924\, the Choir has completed more than 1000 tours to 100 countries\, performing some 29\,000 concerts. \n\n\n\nOn Sundays\, the Choir sings Mass at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the men’s chorus of the Vienna State Opera.  \n\n\n\nThey appear regularly at the Salzburg Festival and at the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert\, and have worked with conductors including Joana Mallwitz\, Zubin Mehta\, Riccardo Muti\, Christian Thielemann\, Simone Young\, and Franz Welser-Möst. \n\n\n\nThe Choir also partners with UNICEF and other charities and supports outreach programs offering free access to music education. \n\n\n\nIn 2023\, the Vienna Boys Choir celebrated its 525th anniversary\, marked by a live album on Deutsche Grammophon\, a 21-CD Decca Classics box set\, and a new history published by Böhlau.  \n\n\n\nIn 2024\, the Vienna Boys Choir and Vienna Girls Choir received the European Culture Award. \n\n\n\nErasmus Baumgartner was appointed Artistic Director in 2023.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Tannahill Weavers for an evening filled with fire-driven instrumentals\, topical songs\, and originals from one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands at Mary Stuart Rogers Performing Arts Center at Victor School 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday\, October 21\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Tannahill Weavers for an evening filled with fire-driven instrumentals\, topical songs\, and originals from one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands. \n\n\n\nBorn of a 1968 session in Paisley\, Scotland and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill\, the Tannahill Weavers have made an international name for their special brand of Scottish music\, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. The Tannahills began to attract attention when founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie added the full-sized highland bagpipes to the on-stage presentations\, the first professional Scottish folk group to successfully do so. \n\n\n\nThe combination of the powerful pipe solos\, Roy’s driving guitar backing and lead vocals\, and Phil’s ethereal flute playing breathed new life into Scotland’s vast repertoire of traditional melodies and songs. \n\n\n\nThree years and a dozen countries later\, the Tannahills were the toast of Europe\, having won the Scotstar Award for Folk Record of the Year with their third album\, The Tannahill Weavers. Canada came the next summer\, with thousands at the national festivals in Vancouver\, Winnipeg and Toronto screaming an approval that echoed throughout the Canadian media. The Regina Leader-Post wrote\, “The Tannahill Weavers personify Celtic music\, and if you are given to superlatives\, you have to call their talent ‘awesome’.” \n\n\n\nSince their first visit to the United States\, the Tannahills’ unique combination of traditional melodies on pipes\, flute and fiddle\, driving rhythms on guitar and bouzouki\, and powerful three- and four-part vocal harmonies have taken the musical community by storm. As Garrison Keillor\, then host of “A Prairie Home Companion”\, remarked\, “These guys are a bunch of heroes every time they go on tour in the States”. \n\n\n\nThe Tannahills have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with an electrifying effect. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies\, driving rhythmic accompaniment\, and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. As the Winnipeg Free Press noted\, “The Tannahill Weavers – properly harnessed – could probably power an entire city for a year on the strength of last night’s concert alone. The music may be old time Celtic\, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll.” \n\n\n\nOver the years the Tannies have been trailblazers for Scottish music\, and their tight harmonies and powerful\, inventive arrangements have won them fans from beyond the folk and Celtic music scenes. The band has been inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame\, and recently released their highly acclaimed 50th Anniversary album Òrach (“Golden” in Gaelic) on award-winning label Compass Records. There have been exciting developments in the band line-up\, with the addition of fiddle player Alistair McCulloch and the return of Kenny Forsyth\, the Tannahill’s piper from the 90’s. Alistair teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and performs with his own trio when he is not on tour with the Tannies\, and Kenny was a key member of the band for their award-winning recording Capernaum. The band is returning to playing as a five piece for larger festivals\, and with our team of Roy\, Phil\, Alistair\, Malcolm\, Kenny and Iain\, the Tannahill Weavers are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage. Their latest recording is Solstice\, a muchloved Scottish celebration of the winter holidays. From reflective ballads to foot-stomping reels and jigs\, the variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.

Since then\, I’ve been writing a truckload of new songs about love\, loss\, home\, heartbreak\, starting over\, bad decisions\, and finding your way back to yourself. Now I have an incredible band\, a whole new batch of tunes\, and the future is looking bright as I find myself back on the path I started walking as a young girl. \n\n\n\nLife has its twists and turns\, and it doesn’t always look the way we planned.
