DESCRIPTION:Join the Tannahill Weavers for an evening filled with fire-driven instrumentals\, topical songs\, and originals from one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands at Mary Stuart Rogers Performing Arts Center at Victor School 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday\, October 21\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Tannahill Weavers for an evening filled with fire-driven instrumentals\, topical songs\, and originals from one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands. \n\n\n\nBorn of a 1968 session in Paisley\, Scotland and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill\, the Tannahill Weavers have made an international name for their special brand of Scottish music\, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms. The Tannahills began to attract attention when founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie added the full-sized highland bagpipes to the on-stage presentations\, the first professional Scottish folk group to successfully do so. \n\n\n\nThe combination of the powerful pipe solos\, Roy’s driving guitar backing and lead vocals\, and Phil’s ethereal flute playing breathed new life into Scotland’s vast repertoire of traditional melodies and songs. \n\n\n\nThree years and a dozen countries later\, the Tannahills were the toast of Europe\, having won the Scotstar Award for Folk Record of the Year with their third album\, The Tannahill Weavers. Canada came the next summer\, with thousands at the national festivals in Vancouver\, Winnipeg and Toronto screaming an approval that echoed throughout the Canadian media. The Regina Leader-Post wrote\, “The Tannahill Weavers personify Celtic music\, and if you are given to superlatives\, you have to call their talent ‘awesome’.” \n\n\n\nSince their first visit to the United States\, the Tannahills’ unique combination of traditional melodies on pipes\, flute and fiddle\, driving rhythms on guitar and bouzouki\, and powerful three- and four-part vocal harmonies have taken the musical community by storm. As Garrison Keillor\, then host of “A Prairie Home Companion”\, remarked\, “These guys are a bunch of heroes every time they go on tour in the States”. \n\n\n\nThe Tannahills have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with an electrifying effect. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies\, driving rhythmic accompaniment\, and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. As the Winnipeg Free Press noted\, “The Tannahill Weavers – properly harnessed – could probably power an entire city for a year on the strength of last night’s concert alone. The music may be old time Celtic\, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll.” \n\n\n\nOver the years the Tannies have been trailblazers for Scottish music\, and their tight harmonies and powerful\, inventive arrangements have won them fans from beyond the folk and Celtic music scenes. The band has been inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame\, and recently released their highly acclaimed 50th Anniversary album Òrach (“Golden” in Gaelic) on award-winning label Compass Records. There have been exciting developments in the band line-up\, with the addition of fiddle player Alistair McCulloch and the return of Kenny Forsyth\, the Tannahill’s piper from the 90’s. Alistair teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and performs with his own trio when he is not on tour with the Tannies\, and Kenny was a key member of the band for their award-winning recording Capernaum. The band is returning to playing as a five piece for larger festivals\, and with our team of Roy\, Phil\, Alistair\, Malcolm\, Kenny and Iain\, the Tannahill Weavers are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage. Their latest recording is Solstice\, a muchloved Scottish celebration of the winter holidays. From reflective ballads to foot-stomping reels and jigs\, the variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.

Built in 1917 and resurrected by the fine folks at the Western Montana Musicians Co-op\, this is our last show of the season. Expect tight harmonies and original songs rooted in the American music traditions of folk\, blues\, bluegrass\, and country. \n\n\n\nA year ago\, I was farming and unsure what was next for me as so much of what I knew to be true had disintegrated in my hands. Since then\, I’ve been writing a truckload of new songs about love\, loss\, home\, heartbreak\, starting over\, bad decisions\, and finding your way back to yourself. Now I have an incredible band\, a whole new batch of tunes\, and the future is looking bright as I find myself back on the path I started walking as a young girl. \n\n\n\nLife has its twists and turns\, and it doesn’t always look the way we planned. Formed in late 2022\, the band bonded over a mutual love of DIY music and artistic expression\, quickly gaining a local following through their highly energetic live performances. Over the years\, the band has played shows throughout Montana and the Pacific Northwest\, leaving a lasting impression wherever they perform. \n\n\n\nBuilt on an emotional foundation of punk\, Senterline’s sound fuses ripping guitar riffs\, a thundering rhythm section\, and expansive pop hooks – veiled in lines of introspection\, rage\, melancholy\, and catharsis. Since their inception\, Senterline’s goal has always been to connect with audiences on an emotionally visceral level. That sentiment has only grown stronger as they have evolved. \n\n\n\nIn November 2024\, the group released their debut album\, I Spoke to the Sun Today\, a narrative piece exploring the many shades of family and the significance of “home.” This full-length LP helped solidify Senterline’s presence in the regional music scene. With plans for a sophomore release in winter 2026\, the band is excited to continue expanding their sound and pushing the boundaries of their artistic expression. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Spirit HotelSpirit Hotel is the rock’n’roll creation of perpetual bleeding heart\, Nataanii Cornelius. The company she keeps round out the outfit; giving life to her unique and eclectic lofi bitterroot fuzz ballads\, which ranges anywhere from existential grunge to home-on-the-range crooning. \n\n\n\nShe features an array of harmonic stories touching on societal isolations\, destructive romance\, and bitchcraft by way of reservation blues with punk angst.  The sound serves as a triumphant statement for a band singing about\, “wearing death to find your life.” \n\n\n\nShe and her all-star hodgepodge lineup are well established\, playing festivals like Calgary’s Sled Island Festival\, Edmonton’s Purple City Festival\, and shows the Pacific Northwest over with few signs of slowing down.
