SUMMARY:The Dusty Bandita - Epic Women's Gravel Cycling Race in Ovando
DESCRIPTION:Make the drive to Ovando to cheer on the competitors racing in The Dusty Bandita – Women’s Gravel Cycling Race starting at 9:00 am Saturday\, June 6\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Bandita in Us…PUSHES LIMITS AND BREAKS BOUNDARIES! \n\n\n\nThe Dusty Bandita is more than a women+ gravel bike race— it’s a bold claim on space in a male-dominated sport\, daring women+ (when we say women\, that word always includes trans women) to go beyond their limits with a smirk of determination and a whole lot of grit. Together we dig deep\, crush brutal climbs\, and rip the inside line\, all while soaking up that crisp Montana air and leaving our cares (and maybe a few competitors) in the dust. Whether you’re racing to win or adventuring for the thrill\, it’s about freedom\, confidence\, and growing the movement of women+ cyclists locally and beyond. See you at the starting line! \n\n\n\n\n\nInterested in helping? For Volunteer Opportunities\, CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:The Ride Continues - The History of the Buffalo Soldiers film screening at The Roxy
DESCRIPTION:Check out a free film screening of “The Ride Continues – The History of the Buffalo Soldiers” at 7:30 pm Wednesday\, November 19 at The Roxy Theater on Missoula’s Hip Strip\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Ride Continues…2024Preserving\, Promoting and Perpetuating the History of the Buffalo SoldiersBy Bobby McDonaldOn June 14th\, 1897\, Lt. James Moss and 20 members of the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Regiment Bicycle Corps undertook an experimental endeavor to test the feasibility of using bicycles versus horses as a mode of military transportation. The 25th Infantry Regiment Bicycle Corps\, also known as the Iron Riders\, was part of the segregated U.S. Army units that came to be known as the Buffalo Soldiers. This undertaking involved a challenging 41-day\, 1\,900-mile bicycle ride from Fort Missoula\, Montana\, to Saint Louis\, Missouri. This little-known story and adventure would later be considered the United States Army’s greatest cycling experiment ever undertaken by men in the military—and the Buffalo Soldiers performed that experiment. Then and NowCreating and preparing for the 125th Anniversary of the ride\, a documentary in 2024\, was always part of the plan. The new documentary\, Iron Riders: The Ride Continues\, highlights the 125th anniversary of the ride and captures the impact the recent Iron Riders Celebration had on the local communities they encountered in the five states (Montana\, Wyoming\, South Dakota\, Nebraska and Missouri) they passed through on their epic journey. With the precision of a military operation\, the Iron Riders Celebration went off without a glitch. The planning committee\, reenactors\, supporters and the local communities\, accomplished their mission of celebrating the magnificent historic ride.Testimonials\, verbal and written\, along with videos and social media\, reflected the vibrant expressions of gratitude\, inspiration\, awareness and community bonding through state parks\, libraries and community engagements across the country. While the celebration was geared to share historical elements\, additional historic opportunities arose\, including participating in the inaugural National Holiday Juneteenth observance in Missoula\, Montana. The Montana Black Collective-Missoula and local\, state and national officials thanked the Quasquicentennial Committee for their support in initiating\, designing and bringing to fruition the first citywide Juneteenth Celebration in Missoula\, Montana. When the Smithsonian Magazine and Apple One ran the Iron Rider story\, both reported it as one of their top five stories for several days. The American Legion ran feature stories and sent a film crew to cover the events. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsored several events along the route. The 25th Infantry Tribute Band\, which mimicked the size and instrumentation of the original band\, played identical arrangements at the opening ceremonies and on Juneteenth. With detailed research and historical adherence\, the events were successful beyond expectation. The Iron Riders re-enactors made history as the first bicycle group ever to participate in the Rose Parade\, beginning with the 2023 New Year’s Pasadena Rose Parade and 2024 Rose Parade. The reenactors were part of the famous Flag Lowering Ceremony at Disneyland.A permanent Iron Rider Exhibit was established at the Buffalo Soldier National Museum\, in Houston\, Texas.Because of the tremendous outreach and awareness of the ride\, wide-ranging groups\, dedicated volunteers and associations across the nation are developing events\, programs and recognitions highlighting the Buffalo Soldiers 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps Iron Riders. \n\n\n\nDirector: Bobby McDonald \n\n\n\nDuration: 30 min

SUMMARY:Pattee Canyon Hill Climb
DESCRIPTION:ALLEZ! Get your skinny wheels ready for Missoula’s legendary annual Pattee Canyon Hill Climb starting at Takima Canyon Drive going to the top parking lot 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Sunday\, October 5\, with the sweet spot for prizes at the top 10:00 am to 2:00 pm-ish\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ve had near “perfect” weather the past three years. We are due for something better this coming Sunday. Be prepared\, nerds! \n\n\n\nALLEZ! \n\n\n\nDuring the days of the Western Montana Hill Climb Championships\, riders donated a gift to participate in the event. We are bringing that back. So\, if you want to participate\, drop off a book\, pound cake\, beer\, back scratcher\, set of tires\, mug\, crocheted sweater\, Mötley Crüe CD\, or what tickles your backside at Missoula Bicycle Works prior to October 5th or leave something at the top of the climb before you ride. Riders will be able to choose from the array of prizes on a first come\, first served basis. Please\, no large prizes. Folks should be able to put them in their jersey pockets. \n\n\n\nPrior to your run up\, make sure to adjust your Strava map visibility settings so that your start and end points are visible to all; otherwise\, your time may not appear on the leaderboard. Also\, do not turn off your device as soon as you pass the tree that is the finish line. Let your device run for at least 30 seconds after you cross the line (ride to the gravel!). This should eliminate some of our timekeeping problems that we’ve had in the past. \n\n\n\nTake pics and use the #R1K hashtag in the your Instagram\, or post in the event discussion for chances at killer prizes that are 100% real. Think panache\, speed\, slow\, style\, beers consumed\, hardboiled eggs eaten\, worst bike\, lantern rouge\, whatever the eff we feel like giving prizes for. Missoula’s premier cycling and lifestyle club\, Rattlesnake 1000\, will be on hand at the finish from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm-ish with a bevy of delights. \n\n\n\nHave fun and remember to veer left at the top of the climb!! \n\n\n\nBelow are the basics: \n\n\n\nWe will use Strava to collect times over a nine hour period and TRUST YOU to follow The Rulez: \n\n\n\n1. The Route: STRAVA LINKThis link is the race course\, but we ask that you start from Takima Drive with your front wheel beside the sewer grate near the stop sign\, then take a right onto Pattee. This is a small safety thing. Start your ride when there is no uphill traffic\, please. \n\n\n\n2. No rolling starts. Clip in at the aforementioned spot on Takima and give ‘er heck. \n\n\n\n3. No drafting. If we find out about you drafting\, it will be hella embarrassing for you and your family\, trust me. If you do decide to ride the course with a crew (yes!)\, please space yourselves about one minute apart. \n\n\n\n4. You get one chance. No multiple runs. If you end up riding up again for some reason\, we will use your first run time\, or just take the right into the parking lot so Strava won’t record the PCHC course segment. \n\n\n\n5. Join the Strava club as this is how we will keep track of you and know that you are taking part in the PCHC: STRAVA LINKBe careful\, be smart\, and blow your f’n lungs out! It’s gonna be a beauty.

SUMMARY:Summer Teen Art Project Celebration at Missoula Art Park / Missoula Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Missoula Art Museum’s Celebration of the Summer Teen Art Project culminating with the unveiling of a stunning 14′ x 10′ public mural honoring the state’s ecosystem heroes – bison\, beavers\, and prairie dogs at Missoula Art Park 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm Thursday\, August 14\n\n\n\n\n\nTeens explored Montana’s keystone species through art\, culminating in the unveiling of a stunning 14′ x 10′ public mural honoring the state’s ecosystem heroes—bison\, beavers\, and prairie dogs. Created collaboratively under the guidance of Resident Artist Joanna LaPorte\, the mural reflects weeks of learning\, creativity\, and connection. The Summer TAP (Teen Art Project) was conceptualized earlier this year and brought to life under the direction of Janaína Vieira-Marques\, MAM’s Educator and Outreach Coordinator\, who also served as a mentor and artistic coordinator throughout the program. \n\n\n\nMade possible with major support from the Missoula Downtown Foundation\, the Montana Arts Council\, the Llewellyn Foundation\, and Adventure Cycling. Special thanks to Front Street Pizza for weekly pizza donations.
