DESCRIPTION:Missoula’s Mountain Line offers free weekend bus rides with hourly service between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from the Downtown Transfer Center to Marshall Mountain Park from May 23 thru October\n\n\n\n\n\nStarting in May\, Mountain Line will launch a new season of Missoula’s Marshall Mountain Shuttle\, with hourly trips from the Downtown Transfer Center to Marshall Mountain Park starting at 8:00 am daily. \n\n\n\nMountain Line launched a pilot recreation shuttle service in the fall of 2025 to help connect Missoulians to recreation opportunities in our own backyard at the publicly owned Marshall Mountain Park.We heard from many who wanted more car-free trips to this local gem of a public park – so this year\, we’re ready to take you up there all summer long. \n\n\n\nFree Weekend Service to Marshall Mountain begins May 23 and runs through October 2026! \n\n\n\nShuttles run hourly 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from the Downtown Transfer Center to Marshall Mountain Park.Last departure from Marshall Mountain is at 4:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekends\, you can catch a lift up to Marshall Mountain Park every hour from the Mountain Line Downtown Transfer Center in Missoula. Around the age of 14\, a neighbor showed Wynn a few chords on an old guitar. This week’s game is Montana’s annual Military Appreciation Game as well as Band Day and the celebration of the incoming class to the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame.Utah Tech comes to Missoula as Big Sky Conference debutants in 2026\, joining the league during the offseason out of the United Athletic Conference. But even though they Blazers are in the Big Sky family\, this matchup remains nonconference – previously scheduled as the back end of a multi-year home-and-home series. The Griz opened the series in St. George\, Utah\, in 2023\, and this game remained on the nonconference schedule after Tech transitioned to the Big Sky to help balance the open dates. \n\n\n\nMontana enters the game with a full head of steam after opening the year with a win in a battle against fellow Big Sky newcomers Southern Utah in a league game\, and a convincing non-con win over the Drake Bulldogs. But with their first full-length in three years coming into focus\, they found L.A. independent label Innovative Leisure ready to amplify that DIY capability: “We’ve done so much in our own bubble that it was exciting to explore another aspect\,” says Jeffords. “I’m enjoying inviting people into our family.” \n\n\n\nBy the time they walked into Long Beach’s Jazzcats studio—where labelmates like Hanni El Khatib and the Molochs recorded with producer Jonny Bell—they had more than twenty songs nearly fully finished\, trimmed to their most necessary components and rehearsed only enough to sharpen the original inspiration. That was the most important part\, says Jeffords\, to capture that ecstatic lightning-strike instant that sparked a song in the first place\, and to make sure it never fizzled out. “If we didn’t have that feeling\,” he adds\, “the song would have never made it out of the rehearsal studio.” \n\n\n\nTheir last full-length was about energy\, says Jeffords\, an echo of the helicopters that shook the walls in his old apartment and the car crashes in the street. New Chants would be darker in tone and color\, he thought—about people and their machines\, and the blurring relationship between them. Like the way you can sometimes see your reflection in a TV screen—maybe you lose track of where the media starts and you begin. If “Fourth Walls” didn’t make it obvious\, the black border around their cover art does: Traps PS knows there’s always a frame around the image. \n\n\n\nThis is where the real spirit of that first wave of post-punk is at work on New Chants. It’s that uneasiness with the future and the unpredictable effects it brings\, and an effort to make an unpredictable new music to meet it. (Possibly related: there’s actually one of the Jazzcats studio cats playing piano on this album\, but not where you’d think.) New Chants is an album about watching and being watched\, about white noise and negative space\, about how what’s undone or unplayed or unsaid is just as deliberate and meaningful as everything else. Jeffords even perforated his lyrics sheet with “…” ellipses—negative space in the language itself. \n\n\n\nSo think Wire’s precision minimalism\, antidote to the over-the-top spectacle of punk and pop both. You’ll hear it in “Seven Voices” or the album’s title track. Think Public Image and that caustic\, corrosive—and purer for it—dissonance. You’ll hear it in “Two Truths\,” with its ragged semi-chorus of “Emmmmmmbrace …” Think the Contortions\, who tore out everything in their songs except the rhythm and discovered there wasn’t much else they’d needed anyway\, except for some saxophone used more as flamethrower than musical instrument. You’ll hear that as “Fourth Walls” falls in on itself. And then think about Traps PS\, who thought about what they didn’t need and then threw it out\, and who made an album only out of what they felt mattered most: “Let it be what it is\,” says Jeffords. New Chants is barely twenty minutes long—but it’s got everything.

He assembled his Absolute Monster Gentlemen (his acclaimed all-star big band) in his home studio in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans\, drew up a setlist of some of his most beloved songs– and some new favorites– and rolled tape. \n\n\n\n“We set out to capture that sound in the old-fashioned way: everybody in the room\, playing together\,” Cleary explains. \n\n\n\nThe result is The Bywater Sessions\, a musical tour-de-force that showcases the grit\, funk and joy that’s packed concert halls from New Orleans to Tokyo and beyond. Co-produced by Cleary and John Porter (Roxy Music\, The Smiths\, Taj Mahal)\, it’s a stunning collection of performances that affirms Cleary’s place in the New Orleans musical vanguard. \n\n\n\n“There’s a lot to be said for the ‘lean and mean’ sound of a piano trio\, stripped down to basics\, simple and direct\,” Cleary says. “But recently\, I’ve been experimenting with different combinations; adding horns\, guitar\, percussion and even another keyboard player. The roots go deep\, but each generation\, growing up with street parades and second-lines\, absorbs the old and introduces the new\, gently coaxing the essential essence into and out of each succeeding decade.” \n\n\n\nIt’s an apt description of Cleary’s career thus far. Born in London and on a plane to New Orleans before he turned twenty years old\, he grew up absorbed by the sounds and rhythms of the Crescent City. His mastery of the city’s music landed him gigs playing as a session musician in the bands of local legends Earl King\, Johnny Adams\, Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington\, Snooks Eaglin\, Ernie K-Doe\, Jessie Hill– and as a guitarist for Dr. John. He later toured extensively with icons like Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal. His solo career began in earnest in 1989 and includes beloved records like their self-titled band debut and his 2015 Grammy winner\, Go-Go Juice. \n\n\n\nIn fact\, his first job in New Orleans was as a painter at beloved local club the Maple Leaf Bar\, and it wasn’t long until he was playing piano in that very room. To this day\, he and his band continue to pack that room to crowds that gather from around the world\, playing their unique and ever-evolving take on New Orleans funk and R&B. \n\n\n\n“These grooves are not museum pieces\, they are alive\, breathing and fresh – and that’s why joints like Tipitina’s\, The Maple Leaf Bar and Chickie Wah Wah are always packed when the locals\, young and old\, come out to hear the Gentlemen do they thang\,” Cleary proudly adds. \n\n\n\nOn The Bywater Sessions\, the band that Rolling Stone’s David Fricke called “as broad\, deep and rolling as the Mississippi river” is finally captured as intended– live\, in the room and as funky as ever. DESCRIPTION:Michelle Rivers performs live at Thirty-Eight Central in Whitefish 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm Saturday\, August 29\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Chasing Somewhere\, singer-songwriter Michelle Rivers channels the inspiration she finds in the stunning mountains and pristine lakes & rivers that surround her little town in the remote northwest corner of Montana.  \n\n\n\nDrawing from the Americana and bluegrass cannon while adding a modern twist\, Rivers and an all-star lineup – including Grammy-winning bass player Barry Bales (Alison Krauss)\, and CMA musician of the year fiddle player Jeneé Fleenor (Cody Johnson)\, Grammy-winning slide guitarist Al Perkins (Emmylou Harris) – have crafted a record that is as broad\, wild\, and beautiful as the American West it celebrates.  \n\n\n\nMichelle Rivers grew up in Leipers Fork\, Tennessee\, just close enough to Nashville to be influenced by its sound\, yet far enough away to be shaped by the pristine beauty of the outdoors and the simplicity of small-town life.  \n\n\n\nHer father\, David\, (a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist)\, had a home studio where Nashville songwriters would frequently gather.  \n\n\n\nShe knew from an early age that she wanted to be a songwriter and was encouraged by both her parents to pursue her creative dreams.  \n\n\n\nAfter her family moved to Austin\, Texas\, Michelle learned to play guitar and her passion for making music grew.  \n\n\n\nUpon graduating from high school\, she returned to Nashville to study music business at Belmont University.  \n\n\n\nThough she loved the music community there\, Michelle quickly realized the competitive nature of that environment was not where she would thrive.  \n\n\n\nThinking she was saying goodbye to the business forever\, Michelle transferred to Baylor University in Waco\, Texas.  \n\n\n\nIt was there that she really grew as a songwriter.  \n\n\n\nShe began playing gigs on and around campus\, even recording some of her songs in the studio. \n\n\n\nAfter college\, Michelle headed to the mountains and found herself all the way up in the northwest corner of Montana.  \n\n\n\nIt was there where she found inspiration for many of the songs included on her debut album\, Breathing on Embers\, which she co-produced with her dad.  \n\n\n\nShe paints pictures and tells stories that draw you into her world. Nashville songwriter John Colgin says of the album: “This is what music should be.  \n\n\n\nColbie Caillat meets Nancy Griffith\, but still original.”  \n\n\n\nIn addition to Rivers on vocals and acoustic guitar\, Chasing Somewhere features performances by Jason Hoard (Josh Groban)\, Matt Summers (Keith Sweat)\, Heath Balltzglier (Mac Powell)\, Greg Neel\, Barry Bales (Alison Krauss)\, Jeneé Fleenor (Blake Shelton)\, Grammy-winner Al Perkins (Emmylou Harris)\, Jill DeZwaan\, David Piland and Laura Mock.  \n\n\n\nRivers’ southern roots and bluegrass youth weave their way through each song\, tying the album together.  \n\n\n\nYet her broad and eclectic influences are laced through\, creating a record that is truly unique.  \n\n\n\nMichelle Rivers has been a performer at Montana’s Red Ants Pants Music Festival (2016)\, a two-time scholarship recipient for the Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop & Festival (2016 & 2017)\, where she worked with Jim Messina & Liz Longley\, and won the Red Lodge Songwriter Festival Contest (2017).  \n\n\n\nMost recently\, she was included in the Top 15 for a nationwide songwriting contest\, Songwriter Serenade (2022)\, performed at Under The Big Sky Festival (2022)\, and the Whitefish Songwriter Festival (2022) performed at the International Bluegrass Music Association Songwriter Showcase in Raleigh\, North Carolina (2022) and she’s opened for national touring acts such as Ashley McBryde\, Elle King\, Willie Watson\, Hogslop String Band and more.

Time passes\, seasons turn\, people grow. Change is what makes life special.” \n\n\n\nCopper Changes Color\, Caamp’s fifth and most adventurous album to date\, is indeed a reflection on growth and evolution\, but it’s also a celebration of the dreams and bonds that endure. Recorded in Texas\, Oregon\, and New York with co-production from Beatriz Artola (Fleet Foxes\, Sharon Van Etten) and Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket\, R.E.M.)\, the collection finds the breakout Midwestern band pushing their sound to new heights\, infusing their infectious brand of modern folk music with an electrifying dose of indie rock energy. The songs are raw and vulnerable\, alternating between buoyant\, breezy anthems and dreamy\, pensive meditations\, and the performances are honest and intuitive to match\, fueled by the undeniable chemistry between Meier and bandmates Evan Westfall\, Matt Vinson\, Joseph Kavalec\, and Nicholas Falk. That’s the way I feel about our band ten years in.” \n\n\n\nFounded by childhood friends Meier and Westfall in Athens\, OH\, Caamp rocketed to early acclaim on the strength of their self-titled 2016 debut\, which generated hundreds of millions of streams across platforms and garnered the band their first gold single. Three years later\, the group topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart with their sophomore effort\, By and By\, which hit #1 at AAA radio\, earned the band festival slots everywhere from Outside Lands to Newport Folk\, and led to TV performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, and CBS Saturday Morning. Caamp’s Lavender Days (2022) landed on NPR’s list of the year’s best roots albums\, topped the Americana Albums chart\, and earned the band their second and third #1 singles at AAA radio. In 2025\, the band released “And It’s Gone\,” written by Meier and featured as the theme song for the Apple TV+ series Stick\, starring Owen Wilson. \n\n\n\n“It’s so fun to just strike your guitar and let it echo through a room that size\,” says Westfall. “There’s something primal about it\, and while we never really consciously discussed it\, I think you can hear our sound growing to match the rooms we’re playing.” \n\n\n\nThough the band’s momentum seemed unstoppable in the wake of Lavender Days (to date\, they’ve amassed over 2.5 billion streams worldwide)\, Caamp’s 2025 U.S. headline tour reaffirmed their place as one of the most captivating live bands in modern music. The 33 show run sold over 200\,000 tickets and included sold-out nights at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre\, The Salt Shed (two nights)\, The Anthem (two nights)\, The Greek Theatre\, and Radio City Music Hall (two nights). \n\n\n\n“I’ve experienced so many different versions of myself these past few years\,” Meier reflects. “I’ve been focusing on healing and recovery while still processing a lot of grief and loss\, and it made me take stock of my head and my heart and my friends and my family and figure out what really matters.” \n\n\n\nAs Meier found himself embarking on new phases during this period — he turned thirty\, began splitting his time between central Ohio and the Lower East Side of Manhattan\, and fell in love with early-2000s indie bands like The Strokes — he also found himself recommitted and more grateful than ever for the steadfast connection he shared with his bandmates. \n\n\n\n“There’s just so much trust\,” says Meier. “We trust each other\, we trust the songs\, we trust the process. It allows us to work freely and push ourselves to places we haven’t been.” \n\n\n\nWhen it came time to record\, the band headed first to El Paso’s famed Sonic Ranch Studio\, where they tracked nearly 20 songs in just a week with Artola and drummer/longtime collaborator Josh Block (Leon Bridges\, White Denim). After a break\, the group headed to Portland’s Flora Recording to collaborate with Martine on another batch of tunes before finishing up with a final session at Manhattan’s Sear Sound. \n\n\n\n“There was no rush\,” says Vinson. “We knew we could take our time and enjoy just getting together in a room and seeing what happened when we took our sound to some uncharted places. There’s a live performance at the core of each of these tracks\, and I think that’s what ties this whole collection together.” \n\n\n\nThat live energy is obvious from the outset on Copper Changes Color\, which opens with the driving “Millions.” Punchy and magnetic\, the track shifts partway through from sunny garage rock to muscular Americana\, setting the stage perfectly for a record that boldly walks the line between genres while proudly wearing its heart on its sleeve. The lush “One True Way” (feat. Madi Diaz) questions whether anyone ever truly knows what they’re doing\, while the mesmerizing “Fairview Feeling” makes peace with our imperfections\, and the effervescent “Mistakes” lays its cards on the table\, with Meier singing\, “Can I get to know you\, honey / And all of your lovely mistakes / I’ve got more than a few to show you.” \n\n\n\n“I remember walking around when I first moved to New York and having all this dialogue in my head\,” he explains\, “but the streets were even more chaotic\, which slowed things down and allowed me to open up to the possibility of writing something really vulnerable. I found that the city scratches a different itch for me\, and I spent a lot of time there just walking around\, writing and rewriting verses and trying to go deeper than I ever have on this record.” \n\n\n\nDeep as Meier takes things\, he and the band never lose sight of life’s simple pleasures. Enjoy the patina. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Blind Pilot \n\n\n\nThe first Blind Pilot album in eight years\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain emerged from a period of artistic crisis and the radical transformation of their creative ecosystem. “I went through a few years where I wasn’t able to write—I tried therapy\, I read books on writer’s block\, I went on writing trips\, but nothing was helping\,” says Israel Nebeker\, frontman for the Oregon-bred band. After stepping back and reimagining his songwriting approach\, Nebeker challenged himself to write an entire album in a month\, then brought those songs to his bandmates with a newfound sense of receptivity. “I told myself that whatever songs came through in that month would be for the love of the band and music we make together\,” says Nebeker. “Instead of being controlling in the studio\, I wanted to let the songs live and breathe with the band as an entity. By the time we finished\, it was the most joy we’d ever had in making an album together.” \n\n\n\nProduced by Josh Kaufman (The Hold Steady\, David Wax Museum)\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain brings a potent new energy to the elegantly composed folk/indie-rock of past LPs like 2016’s And Then Like Lions. In a profound step forward for the band—whose lineup also includes drummer/co-founder Ryan Dobrowski\, bassist Luke Ydstie\, and multi-instrumentalist Kati Claborn—Blind Pilot’s fourth full-length unfolds with an exquisite fluidity\, fully harnessing the undeniable chemistry. “In the past we’ve always been very serious and intentional about the process\, but Josh often encouraged us to throw away our preconceived notions of what the songs were supposed to be\,” says Nebeker. “So much of the album came from all of us playing live together\, listening to each other and trusting our instincts\, and really getting to the core of the song\,” Dobrowski adds. The result: the most revelatory expression yet of Blind Pilot’s palpable reverence for music as a connective force. \n\n\n\nWhile Blind Pilot intends to tour principally as a quartet in support of the record\, the album includes contributions from longtime trumpeter/keyboardist Dave Jorgensen and vibraphonist Ian Krist. In bringing the album to life\, the band worked with a rich palette of instrumentation\, handling each track with equal parts extraordinary care and unbridled spontaneity. For both Dobrowski and Nebeker—who formed an early iteration of the band as college students in the mid-aughts—those moments of ineffably closeness serve as the lifeblood of Blind Pilot. “For me making this album felt like celebrating being together and still feeling that deep connection that’s been a throughline for our entire adult lives\,” Dobrowski says. “One of my very favorite things about music is the way it not only connects us as bandmates\, but allows us to connect to an audience—and then within that audience\, people end up connecting with each other. It’s this powerful thing that’s unlike anything else\, and in a way it’s kind of like magic.”
