SUMMARY:Artist David Secrest exhibit opening "The Unprejudiced Silence of Things that Are” in the Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery at Wachholz College Center
DESCRIPTION:The Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery holds an opening exhibit reception for “David Secrest: The Unprejudiced Silence of Things that Are” at Wachholz College Center on the FVCC campus in Kalispell 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday\, April 10\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery presents “David Secrest: The Unprejudiced Silence of Things that Are” at Wachhold College Center on the FVCC campus in Kalispell. The show opens April 7 and runs through May 23\, 2026\, with a free public opening reception on Friday\, April 10\, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. \n\n\n\nDavid Secrest is a nationally known sculptor and blacksmith celebrated for his mastery of forged iron\, fabricated steel and bronze. He is also an accomplished draftsman\, ceramicist and woodworker. Secrest has designed\, engineered\, and hand-built his extraordinary home and sculpture studio in the woods above Flathead Lake near Somers\, a setting that has shaped his solitary creative process. Over a career spanning more than four decades\, he has developed a singular visual language rooted in natural form\, material history and the intentional manipulation of metal. \n\n\n\nIn 2017\, Secrest was named “Master Metalsmith” by the Metal Museum in Memphis\, Tennessee — one of the highest distinctions in the field. The honor is awarded to artists with more than 20 years of exceptional studio practice and is jury selected by a committee of leading metalworking professionals. To date\, fewer than 40 artists have received the designation. \n\n\n\nSecrest’s sculptures and furniture are held in private and institutional collections across the country\, including the University of Montana\, and have been shown at major national venues\, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art\, SOFA Chicago\, the Armory in New York City\, the National Ornamental Metal Museum\, the Prichard Art Gallery at the University of Idaho\, and Art Market San Francisco. He has shown at the Paris Gibson Museum\, the Holter Museum\, the Missoula Art Museum\, and the Glacier Museum of Art. He has exhibited extensively with Gail Severn Gallery in Ketchum\, Idaho. \n\n\n\nHis work has been recognized with the Silvermine Guild of Artists Prize\, the Rolex Prize for Excellence in Metal\, and a WESTAF/NEA Regional Fellowship for Visual Artists. The title of this show\, “David Secrest: The Unprejudiced Silence of Things that Are\,” is a quote from the philosopher Henry Bugbee. To Secrest\, the quote evokes the quiet immutability of the objects he ultimately creates. \n\n\n\nEveryone is invited to attend the exhibition opening reception in the Wachholz College Center’s Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery on Friday\, April 10 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Following the opening event\, the exhibition will be available for public viewing through May 23. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm as well as during WCC showtimes for patrons with tickets to WCC performances.

SUMMARY:North Hills Wildflower Walk with Montana Dirt Girls
DESCRIPTION:Meet up at Missoula’s Waterworks Trailhead Parking lot at 6:00 pm Tuesday\, April 14 with Montana Dirt Girls for a North Hills Wildflower Walk\n\n\n\n\n\nThe North Hills are popping with wildflowers now! Come enjoy a stroll up Cherry Gulch then up to the ridge. Head past the Randolph Ranch and loop back to the start.Trailhead LocationMap of Route \n\n\n\nThe hike will be about 4 miles with 700’ of elevation gain. \n\n\n\nNote: Kay & Julie will both be gone the next two weeks\, but you know what to do!We have lots of folks coming in and out each week. \n\n\n\nHere are some good rules of thumb:* Try to get the group started soon after 6:00 pm* Do intros\, ask if we have any new folks and get a head count* Break into groups if needed & find someone to coordinate each group* You don’t have to be the fastest in the group to lead but just make sure we don’t leave someone behind* Have fun!Special Hiking Notes:Hikes are geared to an intermediate level of exertion. We gather up at each turn in the trail to keep us headed in the right direction and close together. The only time we will spread out will be on out and back trails. \n\n\n\nNote: Friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join us on hikes. If your pup can be aggressive or unpredictable around other dogs/people\, please leave them at home. If your dog isn’t under voice control\, please plan to leash them up for your hike. Also\, make sure you check if the area is open to dogs. There are several closures that start Dec 1 and some are yearlong. It’s also good to know the trail-specific leash protocol.

The band has made it a point to evolve with every album – sometimes dramatically so – never allowing themselves to become too comfortable in one genre or rest on any of their impressive career laurels. It’s an approach that has grown their audience but also challenged it with a sonic identity that can shift in wild\, unexpected directions. Now with their twelfth album\, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…\, AFI are once again at the start of a bold new chapter\, only this time they’ve even managed to surprise themselves. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Choir Boy“Choir Boy” was what kids called singer/songwriter Adam Klopp in his early teens when he fronted punk cover bands in Cleveland\, Ohio. An intended insult\, the label seemed fair and fitting in a way\, given Klopp’s religious upbringing and angelic voice. After high school\, Adam left Ohio for college in Utah. While his career as a student would prove short-lived\, he integrated into Provo and SLC’s underground music and art scene\, left religion behind\, and called his new band Choir Boy. \n\n\n\n“It seemed funny to me as sort of a comical reclamation of the mocking title I received from “punk” peers as a teen. While serving as a weird reflection of my childhood and musical heritage.” \n\n\n\nSince Choir Boy’s gorgeous debut Passive With Desire\, the dream-pop outfit has gained a cult following online and in underground circles. Adam’s stunning vocal range\, layered compositions\, and heartbreaking melodies are backed by musical partner Chaz Costello on bass (Fossil Arms\, Sculpture Club\, Human Leather)\, saxophonist and keyboardist Jeff Kleinman\, and guitarist Michael Paulsen\, together creating the perfect blend of nostalgia-laced romantic pop music we’ve been waiting years to hear.

On his ninth album\, The Dreamin’ Kind\, the Nashville-based songwriter plugs in his electric guitar and dives headfirst into big-hearted\, 1970s-style rock & roll. \n\n\n\nProduced by Greta Van Fleet’s Sam F. Kiszka\, the record pairs power chords and soaring hooks with the vulnerable storytelling that’s long defined Slim’s work. “It felt like I was blowing some old shit up so I could plant some new flowers\,” he says. “I love folk music\, but rock & roll tickles the same part of my soul. I wanted to explore that.” \n\n\n\nThe collaboration began after Slim opened for Greta Van Fleet\, leading to loose\, inspired sessions with Kiszka and drummer Danny Wagner. Together they built songs that move from the propulsive rush of “Rock N Roll” and the swagger of “Haunted Man” to the tender sweep of “Dream Come True” and “Stealin’ Time.” \n\n\n\nRecorded over a year in Nashville\, The Dreamin’ Kind bridges Slim’s rootsy past with a louder\, more expansive present. It’s a record of freedom and discovery\, equally at home\, in rock clubs\, and around campfires — proof that Langhorne Slim\, ever the dreamer\, still finds new ground to break with every song. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Laney Jones and The SpiritsLaney Jones grew up in the back swamps of Central Florida surrounded by orange groves\, kangaroos\, and endless quiet — the kind that lets a person dream in Technicolor. Today\, she channels that same sense of wonder and honesty into her Nashville-based band\, Laney Jones and the Spirits. Blending vintage rock with blaring riffs\, indie soul\, and cosmic Americana. \n\n\n\nTheir self-titled debut album captures the spirit of a band in full bloom – a kaleidoscope of sound and feeling that invites listeners to slow down\, reflect\, and reconnect.

Sara will be in attendance for an artist talk at 5:30 pm\, with music by Dylan Running Crane. \n\n\n\nMAM first presented Siestreem’s work in 2013\, and in the years since her artistic growth has been remarkable. Drawing on traditional basket weaving practices\, she weaves ancestral pattern motifs into bold geometric abstractions — proud and powerful expressions of Indigenous sovereignty. A recipient of the Hallie Ford Fellowship (2025) and elected 2025 National Academician by the National Academy of Design\, Siestreem is an artist in full stride\, and MAM is honored to welcome her back. \n\n\n\nSpecial thanks to the Elizabeth Leach Gallery for support in mounting this exhibition. \n\n\n\nThank you as well to Elizabeth Leach\, Janet Mohle-Boetani\, and Greg and Cathy Tibbles for the publication support\, as well as The Ford Family Foundation Visual Arts Program for exhibition support.

The EP is as cathartic a listen as the band has ever recorded\, featuring abrasive riffs reminiscent of Black Sabbath alongside the intricate\, laid-back guitar playing UMO is perhaps best known for. \n\n\n\nCURSE not only brings catharsis to the band’s discography\, but a new way of performing. The band will play each show without a setlist\, fully unleashing their propensity for spectral\, experimental jams and raw spontaneity. These performances are UMO at their freest\, with each night unfolding into a new ritual of sound – unpredictable\, unrepeatable\, and alive in the moment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Sean SolomonMusician and animator Sean Solomon had great expectations. But when his hopes for an abundant world crashed against an unforgiving reality\, he decided to feel nothing. For a time\, the Los Angeles-born-and-raised singer/songwriter and cartoonist/animator gave into the void\, but artistic expression can be a release valve – a way to comprehend the world and build community\, which is exactly what Solomon does on his debut solo album ‘The World Is Not Good Enough’\, arriving April 17 via his new label home of ANTI- Records.    \n\n\n\nThe album art features Sean’s winking take on a Richard Scarry book cover and mirrors the cognitive dissonance that pervades the album\, which seamlessly moves from bare-bones acoustic guitar to a Neutral Milk Hotel-esque cacophony of marching drums and horn blasts. “I was thinking about those books and how they show an idyllic version of the world\,” Sean says. “I thought it was kind of funny — the contrast between the title and the images. Like\, there’s a dog walking a dog on the back cover\, an elephant drinking out of a coffee cup with its snout. It was fun to study these children’s books and think about what my version would be.” \n\n\n\nGrowing up in the San Fernando Valley\, Solomon felt especially drawn to both music and animation and immersed himself in episodes of The Simpsons and illustrated stories by graphic novelist and Ghost World author Daniel Clowes. Meanwhile\, Sean was an avid fan of seminal ‘90s and early 2000s punk and alternative acts such as Daniel Johnston\, Elliott Smith and Nirvana\, the latter of whom he admired for the way they preserved their artistic integrity in the face of global stardom. Adopting his own punk sensibility\, Sean and his high school band\, the folk-punk Moses Campbell\, played all over LA\, booking their own shows at coffee shops\, houses\, and famed DIY venue The Smell. This was followed by playing in the three-piece band Moaning who released two albums on Sub Pop. \n\n\n\nAfter Moaning went on indefinite hiatus in 2023\, Solomon thoughtfully wrote and recorded his first solo songs over the better part of two years\, culminating in what would become ‘The World Is Not Good Enough’. The contemplative eight tracks feature fellow Sub Pop veteran and Sean’s former roommate Shannon Lay on backing vocals and guitar and producer Jarvis Taveniere (Whitney\, Purple Mountains\, Waxahatchee)\, who produced and stood in on bass and some percussion. \n\n\n\n“Working with Sean felt brotherly\,” says Taveniere. “We’re similar people; we can both lean into being neurotic or anxious\, so it was fun to balance each other out … He was somebody who had a tight vision but let me be playful while also staying sensitive to the material.” \n\n\n\nIn addition to animating each video he releases\, Solomon has also been cooking up comics with his lyrics in word balloons for each new song. He even drew his stage plot and tech rider by hand: “All the stuff that’s annoying about being a musician\, I’m like\, ‘How can I do this in a creative way so that it doesn’t feel like work\, and it feels like something that’s inspired?’” So that he can integrate his animated visuals into his live shows\, Solomon has lugged a vintage TV set armed with a VHS input to each venue\, the animations and backing tracks running on tape being the only bandmates he shares the stage with.
