After 20 years as a cult favorite\, she broke through to the top in the early 90s with her GRAMMY-award-winning albums\, Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw\, which featured hits\, “Something To Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me” among others. The thirteen-time GRAMMY winner was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and Rolling Stone named the slide guitar ace one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and one of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” \n\n\n\nThe past few years have been very busy for Raitt. In 2022\, Raitt embarked on a 75-date headlining U.S. tour; released her critically acclaimed 21st album ‘Just Like That…\,’ (the third release on her independent label\, Redwing Records) which was #1 on six Billboard charts the week of release and was perched at #1 on the Americana Radio Album Chart for ten consecutive weeks. The album’s first single\, “Made Up Mind” remained in the top three spots on the Americana Radio Singles Chart for 17 weeks. Raitt also received the Icon Award at Billboard Women In Music Awards\, the was recognized by the Recording Academy with a Lifetime Achievement Award and she saw her breakthrough album\, ‘Nick of Time’ added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. \n\n\n\nThe momentum rolled into 2023 with Raitt earning three GRAMMY™ Awards at the 65 th Annual ceremony; Song Of The Year and Best American Roots Song for the title track of her most recent album “Just Like That…”\, and Best Americana Performance for “Made Up Mind.” She then embarked on a busy year of touring not just in the U.S. but with stops in Australia\, Canada\, Ireland\, and the UK. In 2024\, Raitt returned to the U.S. and performed over 60 shows spanning coast to coast\, and as the year came to a close\, Raitt received another incredible accolade being recognized for her lifetime of artistic achievement as part of the Kennedy Center’s 47th Class of Honorees in Washington\, DC. 2025 saw Raitt and her band play another 60+ concerts together to audiences across the US\, Ireland\, the UK and Europe. \n\n\n\nRaitt is as known for her lifelong commitment to social activism as she is for her music\, and has long been involved with the environmental movement\, performing concerts around oil\, nuclear power\, mining\, water\, and forest protection since the mid-‘70s. She was a founding member of MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy)\, which produced the historic concerts\, album and film NO NUKES (1979\,) as well as a founding member of The Rhythm and Blues Foundation\, which works for royalty reform and recognition of generations of pioneer R&B artists. She continues to work on safe energy issues in addition to environmental protection\, social justice\, Native American and human rights\, as well as artist’s rights and music education. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Jon Cleary \n\n\n\nAfter thirty-five years of being at the forefront of the ever-evolving musical landscape of New Orleans\, two-time Grammy award winner Jon Cleary decided to bring that sound back home\, both figuratively and literally. He assembled his Absolute Monster Gentlemen (his acclaimed all-star big band) in his home studio in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans\, drew up a setlist of some of his most beloved songs– and some new favorites– and rolled tape. \n\n\n\n“We set out to capture that sound in the old-fashioned way: everybody in the room\, playing together\,” Cleary explains. \n\n\n\nThe result is The Bywater Sessions\, a musical tour-de-force that showcases the grit\, funk and joy that’s packed concert halls from New Orleans to Tokyo and beyond. Co-produced by Cleary and John Porter (Roxy Music\, The Smiths\, Taj Mahal)\, it’s a stunning collection of performances that affirms Cleary’s place in the New Orleans musical vanguard. \n\n\n\n“There’s a lot to be said for the ‘lean and mean’ sound of a piano trio\, stripped down to basics\, simple and direct\,” Cleary says. “But recently\, I’ve been experimenting with different combinations; adding horns\, guitar\, percussion and even another keyboard player. This expanded line-up has allowed the arrangements to blossom in new directions.” \n\n\n\nAs for the musicians\, it’s the best of the best. Long time Monster Gentlemen Cornell Williams and A.J. Hall anchor the band on bass and drums\, respectively. They are joined by Nigel Hall (Lettuce) on Hammond organ\, Pedro Segundo (Ronnie Scott’s All Stars) on percussion\, Xavier Lynn (MonoNeon\, Ledisi) on guitar\, and an all-star horn section of Aaron Narcisse (Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra)\, Charlie Halloran (Squirrel Nut Zippers\, Preservation Hall All Stars) and Jason Mingledorff (Galactic). \n\n\n\n“Sophisticated\, nasty\, good-time\, low-down funk is the folk music of New Orleans\,” Cleary says. “Everyone playing on this recording is a New Orleanian by birth or by choice\, having learned their craft at the feet of the masters who in turn were taught by the old lions in their day – it’s a tradition stretching back over two hundred years. The roots go deep\, but each generation\, growing up with street parades and second-lines\, absorbs the old and introduces the new\, gently coaxing the essential essence into and out of each succeeding decade.” \n\n\n\nIt’s an apt description of Cleary’s career thus far. Born in London and on a plane to New Orleans before he turned twenty years old\, he grew up absorbed by the sounds and rhythms of the Crescent City. His mastery of the city’s music landed him gigs playing as a session musician in the bands of local legends Earl King\, Johnny Adams\, Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington\, Snooks Eaglin\, Ernie K-Doe\, Jessie Hill– and as a guitarist for Dr. John. He later toured extensively with icons like Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal. His solo career began in earnest in 1989 and includes beloved records like their self-titled band debut and his 2015 Grammy winner\, Go-Go Juice. \n\n\n\nIn fact\, his first job in New Orleans was as a painter at beloved local club the Maple Leaf Bar\, and it wasn’t long until he was playing piano in that very room. To this day\, he and his band continue to pack that room to crowds that gather from around the world\, playing their unique and ever-evolving take on New Orleans funk and R&B. \n\n\n\n“These grooves are not museum pieces\, they are alive\, breathing and fresh – and that’s why joints like Tipitina’s\, The Maple Leaf Bar and Chickie Wah Wah are always packed when the locals\, young and old\, come out to hear the Gentlemen do they thang\,” Cleary proudly adds. \n\n\n\nOn The Bywater Sessions\, the band that Rolling Stone’s David Fricke called “as broad\, deep and rolling as the Mississippi river” is finally captured as intended– live\, in the room and as funky as ever. And with that comes an invitation from Cleary himself: \n\n\n\n“Close your eyes\, imagine you’re in the room with us\, me and the band\, Mike Dorsey the engineer\, John Porter the producer and Reed the manager. With three candidates for national player of the year at marquee positions\, Montana has NFL-caliber talent on both sides of the ball. \n\n\n\nBut the Griz also have new faces all over the field and a new defensive scheme to operate under after an offseason of change. It tees up an intriguing mix of new and old\, with a robust eight returning all-conference players but at the same time the need to replace 33 lettermen and 21 starters. \n\n\n\nHere to challenge Kennedy’s Grizzlies in his first game is a new and old opponent in Southern Utah\, who won two Big Sky titles during their time in the league from 2012-2022. They return to the conference after time in the WAC and UAC and set up Montanan’s first season-opening conference game in 40 years. \n\n\n\nUM is 8-2 against SUU all time and beat the T-Birds in a 20-19 thriller in 2021. Montana’s last loss to SUU came during their first year in the Big Sky the first time around\, with the T-Birds winning 30-20 in Missoula back in 2012. \n\n\n\nKickoff from Washington-Grizzly Stadium is set for 7 p.m. \n\n\n\nWATCH: The Grizzlies return to Montana Television Network/Scripps Sports stations around the state this week\, with the Southern Utah matchup available on basic cable\, satellite options\, free-to-air channels\, and online streaming. \n\n\n\nThis week’s game will be shown on local CBS stations in Missoula\, Billings\, Great Falls and Helena\, and available on “The Spot – MTN” around the rest of the state. “The Spot” is a new independent television network that serves as the secondary home of Big Sky Conference games and will carry specific UM games in specific markets. In the sparkling\, acoustic guitar-driven track\, Quinn ruminates on falling for a twin flame who lives for the escapism of transient life\, too. “It’s a song about seeing how you deal with things in someone else\,” he says. “Which is really comforting\, but it’s also an opportunity to be introspective and helpful to each other.” \n\n\n\n“God Loves Weirdos” dives deeper into life on the road\, after the stage lights go out. “You pull into the gas station and those are your date nights — goofing around at a truck stop\, looking at all the funny T-shirts\,” Quinn says of the track. “Maybe the road is pulling you apart\, but then you have those moments where you’re laughing and thinking\, ‘This is so fun. I love this person.’” \n\n\n\n“More More More\,” on the other hand\, deals with what happens when you do come home — the depression that creeps in when the world goes quiet. As the track builds to a crescendo\, Quinn breaks his own cycle\, howling “I got all I want” — a chill-inducing moment of catharsis. \n\n\n\nBut it wouldn’t be a Mt. Joy record without a party\, too. There’s the unapologetically grooving “She Wants to Go Dancing” written for a lover who brings you out of your shell at the club\, and “Coyote\,” an ode to Quinn’s bandmates sticking together that could easily soundtrack a rager on a tour bus. Two dynamic collaborations round out the record with features soon to be announced. \n\n\n\nTo date\, Mt. Joy has garnered over one billion global streams and has sold more than half a million tickets\, with the singles “Silver Lining\,” “Jenny Jenkins\,” “Lemon Tree\,” “Strangers\,” “Highway Queen\,” and “She Wants to Go Dancing” all charting in the Top 5 on AAA radio. As a young group of musicians\, they were the prototype of the modern\, self-starting band–taking charge of their fate by working the internet and building an identifiable sound. The band’s music\, a rock/reggae fusion\, consisted of songs that were fully accessible\, yet teasingly elusive. Attracting fans all across the country\, the band members toured relentlessly\, pushing their album sales through boundless dedication and word-of- mouth appeal\, never waiting for the industry to catch up. \n\n\n\nBy the time the band had reached their 10 year anniversary together\, they had sold over 1.2 million albums and performed in front of over 1 million people. Time passes\, seasons turn\, people grow. Change is what makes life special.” \n\n\n\nCopper Changes Color\, Caamp’s fifth and most adventurous album to date\, is indeed a reflection on growth and evolution\, but it’s also a celebration of the dreams and bonds that endure. Recorded in Texas\, Oregon\, and New York with co-production from Beatriz Artola (Fleet Foxes\, Sharon Van Etten) and Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket\, R.E.M.)\, the collection finds the breakout Midwestern band pushing their sound to new heights\, infusing their infectious brand of modern folk music with an electrifying dose of indie rock energy. The songs are raw and vulnerable\, alternating between buoyant\, breezy anthems and dreamy\, pensive meditations\, and the performances are honest and intuitive to match\, fueled by the undeniable chemistry between Meier and bandmates Evan Westfall\, Matt Vinson\, Joseph Kavalec\, and Nicholas Falk. Put it all together and you’ve got a rich\, rousing record built on love and trust in the face of doubt and uncertainty\, a joyful\, cathartic work about not just accepting change\, but learning to embrace it. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart and features fan favorite “Mistakes” which earned the band their fifth #1 at AAA Radio in 2025. \n\n\n\n“When we were putting the finishing touches on this record\, I started noticing copper everywhere I went\,” Meier recalls. “The older it was\, the more imperfect the finish had become\, but that patina was what gave it character. That’s the way I feel about our band ten years in.” \n\n\n\nFounded by childhood friends Meier and Westfall in Athens\, OH\, Caamp rocketed to early acclaim on the strength of their self-titled 2016 debut\, which generated hundreds of millions of streams across platforms and garnered the band their first gold single. Three years later\, the group topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart with their sophomore effort\, By and By\, which hit #1 at AAA radio\, earned the band festival slots everywhere from Outside Lands to Newport Folk\, and led to TV performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, and CBS Saturday Morning. Caamp’s Lavender Days (2022) landed on NPR’s list of the year’s best roots albums\, topped the Americana Albums chart\, and earned the band their second and third #1 singles at AAA radio. In 2025\, the band released “And It’s Gone\,” written by Meier and featured as the theme song for the Apple TV+ series Stick\, starring Owen Wilson. \n\n\n\n“It’s so fun to just strike your guitar and let it echo through a room that size\,” says Westfall. “There’s something primal about it\, and while we never really consciously discussed it\, I think you can hear our sound growing to match the rooms we’re playing.” \n\n\n\nThough the band’s momentum seemed unstoppable in the wake of Lavender Days (to date\, they’ve amassed over 2.5 billion streams worldwide)\, Caamp’s 2025 U.S. headline tour reaffirmed their place as one of the most captivating live bands in modern music. The 33 show run sold over 200\,000 tickets and included sold-out nights at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre\, The Salt Shed (two nights)\, The Anthem (two nights)\, The Greek Theatre\, and Radio City Music Hall (two nights). \n\n\n\n“I’ve experienced so many different versions of myself these past few years\,” Meier reflects. “I’ve been focusing on healing and recovery while still processing a lot of grief and loss\, and it made me take stock of my head and my heart and my friends and my family and figure out what really matters.” \n\n\n\nAs Meier found himself embarking on new phases during this period — he turned thirty\, began splitting his time between central Ohio and the Lower East Side of Manhattan\, and fell in love with early-2000s indie bands like The Strokes — he also found himself recommitted and more grateful than ever for the steadfast connection he shared with his bandmates. \n\n\n\n“There’s just so much trust\,” says Meier. “We trust each other\, we trust the songs\, we trust the process. It allows us to work freely and push ourselves to places we haven’t been.” \n\n\n\nWhen it came time to record\, the band headed first to El Paso’s famed Sonic Ranch Studio\, where they tracked nearly 20 songs in just a week with Artola and drummer/longtime collaborator Josh Block (Leon Bridges\, White Denim). After a break\, the group headed to Portland’s Flora Recording to collaborate with Martine on another batch of tunes before finishing up with a final session at Manhattan’s Sear Sound. \n\n\n\n“There was no rush\,” says Vinson. “We knew we could take our time and enjoy just getting together in a room and seeing what happened when we took our sound to some uncharted places. There’s a live performance at the core of each of these tracks\, and I think that’s what ties this whole collection together.” \n\n\n\nThat live energy is obvious from the outset on Copper Changes Color\, which opens with the driving “Millions.” Punchy and magnetic\, the track shifts partway through from sunny garage rock to muscular Americana\, setting the stage perfectly for a record that boldly walks the line between genres while proudly wearing its heart on its sleeve. The lush “One True Way” (feat. Madi Diaz) questions whether anyone ever truly knows what they’re doing\, while the mesmerizing “Fairview Feeling” makes peace with our imperfections\, and the effervescent “Mistakes” lays its cards on the table\, with Meier singing\, “Can I get to know you\, honey / And all of your lovely mistakes / I’ve got more than a few to show you.” \n\n\n\n“I remember walking around when I first moved to New York and having all this dialogue in my head\,” he explains\, “but the streets were even more chaotic\, which slowed things down and allowed me to open up to the possibility of writing something really vulnerable. I found that the city scratches a different itch for me\, and I spent a lot of time there just walking around\, writing and rewriting verses and trying to go deeper than I ever have on this record.” \n\n\n\nDeep as Meier takes things\, he and the band never lose sight of life’s simple pleasures. The addictive “Porchswing” revels in the joys of a steady\, reliable love; the Britpop-tinged “Shade” pledges to always be there to pick up a partner’s slack; the exhilarating “Waiting Up (For You)” basks in the glow of a connection that transcends distance; and the tongue-in-cheek “Ohio’s Ugly” savors the feeling of sharing a place you love with someone you care about. \n\n\n\n“It’s a song about falling in love with a girl and wanting to pull her back to Ohio\,” Meier explains. “People don’t understand why we’re still here\, but anybody from the Midwest will tell you there’s a magic to it. I travel all over the world now\, but nothing beats coming home.” \n\n\n\nUltimately\, Copper Changes Color is all about that push and pull between old and new\, between the thrill of the unknown and the comforts of the familiar. “No one knows how long this lasts / Try and make it sweet\,” Meier sings on poignant album closer “Drive.” Change isn’t just inevitable\, it’s essential. Enjoy the patina. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Blind Pilot \n\n\n\nThe first Blind Pilot album in eight years\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain emerged from a period of artistic crisis and the radical transformation of their creative ecosystem. “I went through a few years where I wasn’t able to write—I tried therapy\, I read books on writer’s block\, I went on writing trips\, but nothing was helping\,” says Israel Nebeker\, frontman for the Oregon-bred band. After stepping back and reimagining his songwriting approach\, Nebeker challenged himself to write an entire album in a month\, then brought those songs to his bandmates with a newfound sense of receptivity. “I told myself that whatever songs came through in that month would be for the love of the band and music we make together\,” says Nebeker. “Instead of being controlling in the studio\, I wanted to let the songs live and breathe with the band as an entity. By the time we finished\, it was the most joy we’d ever had in making an album together.” \n\n\n\nProduced by Josh Kaufman (The Hold Steady\, David Wax Museum)\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain brings a potent new energy to the elegantly composed folk/indie-rock of past LPs like 2016’s And Then Like Lions. In a profound step forward for the band—whose lineup also includes drummer/co-founder Ryan Dobrowski\, bassist Luke Ydstie\, and multi-instrumentalist Kati Claborn—Blind Pilot’s fourth full-length unfolds with an exquisite fluidity\, fully harnessing the undeniable chemistry. “In the past we’ve always been very serious and intentional about the process\, but Josh often encouraged us to throw away our preconceived notions of what the songs were supposed to be\,” says Nebeker. “So much of the album came from all of us playing live together\, listening to each other and trusting our instincts\, and really getting to the core of the song\,” Dobrowski adds. The result: the most revelatory expression yet of Blind Pilot’s palpable reverence for music as a connective force. \n\n\n\nWhile Blind Pilot intends to tour principally as a quartet in support of the record\, the album includes contributions from longtime trumpeter/keyboardist Dave Jorgensen and vibraphonist Ian Krist. Time passes\, seasons turn\, people grow. Change is what makes life special.” \n\n\n\nCopper Changes Color\, Caamp’s fifth and most adventurous album to date\, is indeed a reflection on growth and evolution\, but it’s also a celebration of the dreams and bonds that endure. Recorded in Texas\, Oregon\, and New York with co-production from Beatriz Artola (Fleet Foxes\, Sharon Van Etten) and Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket\, R.E.M.)\, the collection finds the breakout Midwestern band pushing their sound to new heights\, infusing their infectious brand of modern folk music with an electrifying dose of indie rock energy. The songs are raw and vulnerable\, alternating between buoyant\, breezy anthems and dreamy\, pensive meditations\, and the performances are honest and intuitive to match\, fueled by the undeniable chemistry between Meier and bandmates Evan Westfall\, Matt Vinson\, Joseph Kavalec\, and Nicholas Falk. That’s the way I feel about our band ten years in.” \n\n\n\nFounded by childhood friends Meier and Westfall in Athens\, OH\, Caamp rocketed to early acclaim on the strength of their self-titled 2016 debut\, which generated hundreds of millions of streams across platforms and garnered the band their first gold single. Three years later\, the group topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart with their sophomore effort\, By and By\, which hit #1 at AAA radio\, earned the band festival slots everywhere from Outside Lands to Newport Folk\, and led to TV performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, and CBS Saturday Morning. Caamp’s Lavender Days (2022) landed on NPR’s list of the year’s best roots albums\, topped the Americana Albums chart\, and earned the band their second and third #1 singles at AAA radio. In 2025\, the band released “And It’s Gone\,” written by Meier and featured as the theme song for the Apple TV+ series Stick\, starring Owen Wilson. \n\n\n\n“It’s so fun to just strike your guitar and let it echo through a room that size\,” says Westfall. “There’s something primal about it\, and while we never really consciously discussed it\, I think you can hear our sound growing to match the rooms we’re playing.” \n\n\n\nThough the band’s momentum seemed unstoppable in the wake of Lavender Days (to date\, they’ve amassed over 2.5 billion streams worldwide)\, Caamp’s 2025 U.S. headline tour reaffirmed their place as one of the most captivating live bands in modern music. The 33 show run sold over 200\,000 tickets and included sold-out nights at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre\, The Salt Shed (two nights)\, The Anthem (two nights)\, The Greek Theatre\, and Radio City Music Hall (two nights). \n\n\n\n“I’ve experienced so many different versions of myself these past few years\,” Meier reflects. “I’ve been focusing on healing and recovery while still processing a lot of grief and loss\, and it made me take stock of my head and my heart and my friends and my family and figure out what really matters.” \n\n\n\nAs Meier found himself embarking on new phases during this period — he turned thirty\, began splitting his time between central Ohio and the Lower East Side of Manhattan\, and fell in love with early-2000s indie bands like The Strokes — he also found himself recommitted and more grateful than ever for the steadfast connection he shared with his bandmates. \n\n\n\n“There’s just so much trust\,” says Meier. “We trust each other\, we trust the songs\, we trust the process. It allows us to work freely and push ourselves to places we haven’t been.” \n\n\n\nWhen it came time to record\, the band headed first to El Paso’s famed Sonic Ranch Studio\, where they tracked nearly 20 songs in just a week with Artola and drummer/longtime collaborator Josh Block (Leon Bridges\, White Denim). After a break\, the group headed to Portland’s Flora Recording to collaborate with Martine on another batch of tunes before finishing up with a final session at Manhattan’s Sear Sound. \n\n\n\n“There was no rush\,” says Vinson. “We knew we could take our time and enjoy just getting together in a room and seeing what happened when we took our sound to some uncharted places. There’s a live performance at the core of each of these tracks\, and I think that’s what ties this whole collection together.” \n\n\n\nThat live energy is obvious from the outset on Copper Changes Color\, which opens with the driving “Millions.” Punchy and magnetic\, the track shifts partway through from sunny garage rock to muscular Americana\, setting the stage perfectly for a record that boldly walks the line between genres while proudly wearing its heart on its sleeve. The lush “One True Way” (feat. Madi Diaz) questions whether anyone ever truly knows what they’re doing\, while the mesmerizing “Fairview Feeling” makes peace with our imperfections\, and the effervescent “Mistakes” lays its cards on the table\, with Meier singing\, “Can I get to know you\, honey / And all of your lovely mistakes / I’ve got more than a few to show you.” \n\n\n\n“I remember walking around when I first moved to New York and having all this dialogue in my head\,” he explains\, “but the streets were even more chaotic\, which slowed things down and allowed me to open up to the possibility of writing something really vulnerable. I found that the city scratches a different itch for me\, and I spent a lot of time there just walking around\, writing and rewriting verses and trying to go deeper than I ever have on this record.” \n\n\n\nDeep as Meier takes things\, he and the band never lose sight of life’s simple pleasures. The addictive “Porchswing” revels in the joys of a steady\, reliable love; the Britpop-tinged “Shade” pledges to always be there to pick up a partner’s slack; the exhilarating “Waiting Up (For You)” basks in the glow of a connection that transcends distance; and the tongue-in-cheek “Ohio’s Ugly” savors the feeling of sharing a place you love with someone you care about. \n\n\n\n“It’s a song about falling in love with a girl and wanting to pull her back to Ohio\,” Meier explains. “People don’t understand why we’re still here\, but anybody from the Midwest will tell you there’s a magic to it. I travel all over the world now\, but nothing beats coming home.” \n\n\n\nUltimately\, Copper Changes Color is all about that push and pull between old and new\, between the thrill of the unknown and the comforts of the familiar. “No one knows how long this lasts / Try and make it sweet\,” Meier sings on poignant album closer “Drive.” Change isn’t just inevitable\, it’s essential. Enjoy the patina. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Blind Pilot \n\n\n\nThe first Blind Pilot album in eight years\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain emerged from a period of artistic crisis and the radical transformation of their creative ecosystem. “I went through a few years where I wasn’t able to write—I tried therapy\, I read books on writer’s block\, I went on writing trips\, but nothing was helping\,” says Israel Nebeker\, frontman for the Oregon-bred band. After stepping back and reimagining his songwriting approach\, Nebeker challenged himself to write an entire album in a month\, then brought those songs to his bandmates with a newfound sense of receptivity. “I told myself that whatever songs came through in that month would be for the love of the band and music we make together\,” says Nebeker. “Instead of being controlling in the studio\, I wanted to let the songs live and breathe with the band as an entity. By the time we finished\, it was the most joy we’d ever had in making an album together.” \n\n\n\nProduced by Josh Kaufman (The Hold Steady\, David Wax Museum)\, In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain brings a potent new energy to the elegantly composed folk/indie-rock of past LPs like 2016’s And Then Like Lions. In a profound step forward for the band—whose lineup also includes drummer/co-founder Ryan Dobrowski\, bassist Luke Ydstie\, and multi-instrumentalist Kati Claborn—Blind Pilot’s fourth full-length unfolds with an exquisite fluidity\, fully harnessing the undeniable chemistry. “In the past we’ve always been very serious and intentional about the process\, but Josh often encouraged us to throw away our preconceived notions of what the songs were supposed to be\,” says Nebeker. “So much of the album came from all of us playing live together\, listening to each other and trusting our instincts\, and really getting to the core of the song\,” Dobrowski adds. The result: the most revelatory expression yet of Blind Pilot’s palpable reverence for music as a connective force. \n\n\n\nWhile Blind Pilot intends to tour principally as a quartet in support of the record\, the album includes contributions from longtime trumpeter/keyboardist Dave Jorgensen and vibraphonist Ian Krist. In bringing the album to life\, the band worked with a rich palette of instrumentation\, handling each track with equal parts extraordinary care and unbridled spontaneity. For both Dobrowski and Nebeker—who formed an early iteration of the band as college students in the mid-aughts—those moments of ineffably closeness serve as the lifeblood of Blind Pilot. “For me making this album felt like celebrating being together and still feeling that deep connection that’s been a throughline for our entire adult lives\,” Dobrowski says. “One of my very favorite things about music is the way it not only connects us as bandmates\, but allows us to connect to an audience—and then within that audience\, people end up connecting with each other. It’s this powerful thing that’s unlike anything else\, and in a way it’s kind of like magic.”

A wide variety of songs are welcome\, but ones with catchy choruses\, call and response\, or that are generally “sing-along-able” work best. We take turns leading songs\, and everyone joins in on the chorus or other repeated parts. It’s also totally fine to just sing along! You don’t have to lead a song if you don’t want to. \n\n\n\nTraditional songs\, folk songs\, sea chanties\, etc. are all great genres to draw from.
