DESCRIPTION:No. 2 ranked University of Montana Grizzlies host Big Sky Conference opponent Southern Utah inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium at 7:00 pm Saturday night\, August 29 in the first game under head coach Bobby Kennedy\n\n\n\n\n\nBy: Montana Sports Information \n\n\n\nThe dawn of a new era rises over Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday as Bobby Kennedy leads Montana onto the field for the first time as UM’s 38th head football coach. \n\n\n\nComing off a 13-2 season and a trip to the semifinals in 2025\, expectations are (as usual) high in Missoula for the No. 2 Grizzlies under Kennedy\, and rightly so. With three candidates for national player of the year at marquee positions\, Montana has NFL-caliber talent on both sides of the ball. \n\n\n\nBut the Griz also have new faces all over the field and a new defensive scheme to operate under after an offseason of change. It tees up an intriguing mix of new and old\, with a robust eight returning all-conference players but at the same time the need to replace 33 lettermen and 21 starters. \n\n\n\nHere to challenge Kennedy’s Grizzlies in his first game is a new and old opponent in Southern Utah\, who won two Big Sky titles during their time in the league from 2012-2022. They return to the conference after time in the WAC and UAC and set up Montanan’s first season-opening conference game in 40 years. \n\n\n\nUM is 8-2 against SUU all time and beat the T-Birds in a 20-19 thriller in 2021. Montana’s last loss to SUU came during their first year in the Big Sky the first time around\, with the T-Birds winning 30-20 in Missoula back in 2012. \n\n\n\nKickoff from Washington-Grizzly Stadium is set for 7 p.m. \n\n\n\nWATCH: The Grizzlies return to Montana Television Network/Scripps Sports stations around the state this week\, with the Southern Utah matchup available on basic cable\, satellite options\, free-to-air channels\, and online streaming. \n\n\n\nThis week’s game will be shown on local CBS stations in Missoula\, Billings\, Great Falls and Helena\, and available on “The Spot – MTN” around the rest of the state. “The Spot” is a new independent television network that serves as the secondary home of Big Sky Conference games and will carry specific UM games in specific markets. This week’s game can also been seen on “The Spot” in Salt Lake City\, Boise\, Twin Falls\, Phoenix\, and on Local 3 in Denver. \n\n\n\nThe Spot is available around the state free-to-air for viewers with antennas in Billings (2.2)\, Butte/Bozeman (4.2/7.2)\, Great Falls (3.2)\, Helena (12.2) and Missoula (8.2). DESCRIPTION:Michelle Rivers performs live at Thirty-Eight Central in Whitefish 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm Saturday\, August 29\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Chasing Somewhere\, singer-songwriter Michelle Rivers channels the inspiration she finds in the stunning mountains and pristine lakes & rivers that surround her little town in the remote northwest corner of Montana.  \n\n\n\nDrawing from the Americana and bluegrass cannon while adding a modern twist\, Rivers and an all-star lineup – including Grammy-winning bass player Barry Bales (Alison Krauss)\, and CMA musician of the year fiddle player Jeneé Fleenor (Cody Johnson)\, Grammy-winning slide guitarist Al Perkins (Emmylou Harris) – have crafted a record that is as broad\, wild\, and beautiful as the American West it celebrates.  \n\n\n\nMichelle Rivers grew up in Leipers Fork\, Tennessee\, just close enough to Nashville to be influenced by its sound\, yet far enough away to be shaped by the pristine beauty of the outdoors and the simplicity of small-town life.  \n\n\n\nHer father\, David\, (a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist)\, had a home studio where Nashville songwriters would frequently gather.  \n\n\n\nShe knew from an early age that she wanted to be a songwriter and was encouraged by both her parents to pursue her creative dreams.  \n\n\n\nAfter her family moved to Austin\, Texas\, Michelle learned to play guitar and her passion for making music grew.  \n\n\n\nUpon graduating from high school\, she returned to Nashville to study music business at Belmont University.  \n\n\n\nThough she loved the music community there\, Michelle quickly realized the competitive nature of that environment was not where she would thrive.  \n\n\n\nThinking she was saying goodbye to the business forever\, Michelle transferred to Baylor University in Waco\, Texas.  \n\n\n\nIt was there that she really grew as a songwriter.  \n\n\n\nShe began playing gigs on and around campus\, even recording some of her songs in the studio. \n\n\n\nAfter college\, Michelle headed to the mountains and found herself all the way up in the northwest corner of Montana.  \n\n\n\nIt was there where she found inspiration for many of the songs included on her debut album\, Breathing on Embers\, which she co-produced with her dad.  \n\n\n\nShe paints pictures and tells stories that draw you into her world. Nashville songwriter John Colgin says of the album: “This is what music should be.  \n\n\n\nColbie Caillat meets Nancy Griffith\, but still original.”  \n\n\n\nIn addition to Rivers on vocals and acoustic guitar\, Chasing Somewhere features performances by Jason Hoard (Josh Groban)\, Matt Summers (Keith Sweat)\, Heath Balltzglier (Mac Powell)\, Greg Neel\, Barry Bales (Alison Krauss)\, Jeneé Fleenor (Blake Shelton)\, Grammy-winner Al Perkins (Emmylou Harris)\, Jill DeZwaan\, David Piland and Laura Mock.  \n\n\n\nRivers’ southern roots and bluegrass youth weave their way through each song\, tying the album together.  \n\n\n\nYet her broad and eclectic influences are laced through\, creating a record that is truly unique.  \n\n\n\nMichelle Rivers has been a performer at Montana’s Red Ants Pants Music Festival (2016)\, a two-time scholarship recipient for the Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop & Festival (2016 & 2017)\, where she worked with Jim Messina & Liz Longley\, and won the Red Lodge Songwriter Festival Contest (2017).  \n\n\n\nMost recently\, she was included in the Top 15 for a nationwide songwriting contest\, Songwriter Serenade (2022)\, performed at Under The Big Sky Festival (2022)\, and the Whitefish Songwriter Festival (2022) performed at the International Bluegrass Music Association Songwriter Showcase in Raleigh\, North Carolina (2022) and she’s opened for national touring acts such as Ashley McBryde\, Elle King\, Willie Watson\, Hogslop String Band and more.

DESCRIPTION:Missoula’s Mountain Line offers free weekend bus rides with hourly service between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from the Downtown Transfer Center to Marshall Mountain Park from May 23 thru October\n\n\n\n\n\nStarting in May\, Mountain Line will launch a new season of Missoula’s Marshall Mountain Shuttle\, with hourly trips from the Downtown Transfer Center to Marshall Mountain Park starting at 8:00 am daily. \n\n\n\nMountain Line launched a pilot recreation shuttle service in the fall of 2025 to help connect Missoulians to recreation opportunities in our own backyard at the publicly owned Marshall Mountain Park.We heard from many who wanted more car-free trips to this local gem of a public park – so this year\, we’re ready to take you up there all summer long. \n\n\n\nFree Weekend Service to Marshall Mountain begins May 23 and runs through October 2026! \n\n\n\nShuttles run hourly 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from the Downtown Transfer Center to Marshall Mountain Park.Last departure from Marshall Mountain is at 4:30 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekends\, you can catch a lift up to Marshall Mountain Park every hour from the Mountain Line Downtown Transfer Center in Missoula. The shuttle includes a 16-spot bike trailer and room for up to 16 passengers per trip.
