DESCRIPTION:Join Women Bike Missoula in a Celebration of Life for the late Missoula cycling icon and club founder Ethel MacDonald at Free Cycles from 12:00 pm Noon to 4:00 pm Sunday\, November 16\n\n\n\n\n\nMissoula cycling icon and Women Bike Missoula founder Ethel MacDonald passed away October 6 at the age of 87.  She was still riding with the group in her last year of life.  A Celebration of Life will take place this Sunday\, November 16 at Missoula’s Free Cycles (732 S First St. SW) from 12:00 pm Noon to 4:00 pm.  This will be an open house celebration so feel free to drop by at any time.  You can also join the short ride from Jeanette Rankin Peace Center at 11:45 am to Free Cycles – one of Ethel’s favorite places in Missoula – to bridge her love of both peace and bicycles.   \n\n\n\nEthel’s love of bicycles and wish that more women would use the bike for transportation and recreation led her to form Women Bike Missoula in 2014.  Since that time the group has grown to over 500 women.  Ethel was multi-dimensional in her passions and you can read more about her life here.  If she touched you in some way\, please join the celebration on Sunday and be inspired to live your own life to the fullest extent.At Free Cycles\, Matthew Marsolek & Ethel’s drumming friends will gather to “drum in” the bicyclists as they arrive—a joyful tribute to her spirit & love of community. \n\n\n\nJoin Women Bike Missoula in a Celebration of Life for the late Missoula cycling icon and club founder Ethel MacDonald at Free Cycles from 12:00 pm Noon to 4:00 pm Sunday\, November 16

James Moss and 20 members of the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Regiment Bicycle Corps undertook an experimental endeavor to test the feasibility of using bicycles versus horses as a mode of military transportation. The 25th Infantry Regiment Bicycle Corps\, also known as the Iron Riders\, was part of the segregated U.S. Army units that came to be known as the Buffalo Soldiers.This undertaking involved a challenging 41-day\, 1\,900-mile bicycle ride from Fort Missoula\, Montana\, to Saint Louis\, Missouri.This little-known story and adventure would later be considered the United States Army’s greatest cycling experiment ever undertaken by men in the military—and the Buffalo Soldiers performed that experiment.Then and NowCreating and preparing for the 125th Anniversary of the ride\, a documentary in 2024\, was always part of the plan.The new documentary\, Iron Riders: The Ride Continues\, highlights the 125th anniversary of the ride and captures the impact the recent Iron Riders Celebration had on the local communities they encountered in the five states (Montana\, Wyoming\, South Dakota\, Nebraska and Missouri) they passed through on their epic journey.With the precision of a military operation\, the Iron Riders Celebration went off without a glitch. The planning committee\, reenactors\, supporters and the local communities\, accomplished their mission of celebrating the magnificent historic ride.Testimonials\, verbal and written\, along with videos and social media\, reflected the vibrant expressions of gratitude\, inspiration\, awareness and community bonding through state parks\, libraries and community engagements across the country. While the celebration was geared to share historical elements\, additional historic opportunities arose\, including participating in the inaugural National Holiday Juneteenth observance in Missoula\, Montana.The Montana Black Collective-Missoula and local\, state and national officials thanked the Quasquicentennial Committee for their support in initiating\, designing and bringing to fruition the first citywide Juneteenth Celebration in Missoula\, Montana.When the Smithsonian Magazine and Apple One ran the Iron Rider story\, both reported it as one of their top five stories for several days. The American Legion ran feature stories and sent a film crew to cover the events. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsored several events along the route.The 25th Infantry Tribute Band\, which mimicked the size and instrumentation of the original band\, played identical arrangements at the opening ceremonies and on Juneteenth. DESCRIPTION:Get on up to Whitefish Mountain Resort to race the final round of the Flathead Area Mountain Bikers TNRL (Thursday Night Race League) Series with XC MTB races starting from the Willow Trail Parking Lot at 6:30 pm July 30\n\n\n\n\n\nGet on up to Whitefish Mountain Resort to race with the Flathead Area Mountain Bikers TNRL (Thursday Night Race League) Series with XC MTB races starting at 6:30 pm July 9-16-23-30.When you sign up\, you can choose to ride one\, two\, or three laps on a 2-3 mile course. Hang out after the race for announcement of race results and to enjoy some après-race beverages with your bike friends! \n\n\n\nIf XC racing isn’t quite your style (or your kid’s style\, or your dad’s style)\, WMR also hosts their own separate $10 Downhill series on Thursdays. FAMB also always needs a little volunteer help each race night: the registration link also has volunteer sign-ups! \n\n\n\nDo you love bikes and hot dogs? Good news: July 30th’s Thursday Night Race League Final will feature both. We will have post-race hot dogs tonight\, courtesy of A7 Cycles and Flathead Youth Cycling.
