Unique and with a vibrance that could only come from New Orleans\, the lead vocalist\, Tank has stretched her vocals over quirky raps\, poetry\, and rich melodies since the release of their first album\, Think Tank in 2013. Four years later\, they had a viral breakthrough as the winners of the NPR Tiny Desk Contest — an eclectic performance that has since been praised by musicians like Miguel and Anthony Hamilton and has now amassed over 14 million views on YouTube. Now\, Tank and the Bangas arrive with a new 3-part album The Heart\, The Mind\, and The Soul. With this offering\, Tank opens up about the wisdom she’s gained from new beginnings\, endings\, and in-betweens. \n\n\n\nRecent winner for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album for The Heart\, The Mind\, The Soul at the 2025 GRAMMYs\, the concept of this album series came to Tank two years ago while traveling on a train with her group members. But within those\, Donato has carved out a unique and individualized spot for himself\, one that speaks to the deep American music heritage that inspires him — and that he’s pushing towards the future with inspired\, intentional vigor. \n\n\n\nHe calls it Cosmic Country\, a moniker that’s both self-descriptive and a statement of purpose. It’s an organic rock band aesthetic with plenty of roadhouse twang; a showcase for Donato’s instrumental virtuosity and facility for melodically infectious songcraft. Bridging Nashville and the Great West\, Kentucky and mid-60s northern California\, tie-dye and plaid\, it’s a world of his own\, and a wide world of musical adventure at that. \n\n\n\nWhile growing up in Nashville his his father\, who turned his young son on to music of all genres\, suggested the fledgling and industriously minded (even at just 14) artist start busking in Nashville’s lower Broadway area and outside concerts\, for eight hours at a time on the weekends. One night\, the two happened by Robert’s Western World where legendary honky-tonk local mainstay the Don Kelly Band were performing. Donato eventually became a member of the band\, playing four hours a night at Robert’s (464 shows in total). \n\n\n\nHorizons is the follow up to 2023’s Reflector\, which received critical acclaim from a wide range of press\, including No Depression\, Glide Magazine\, Magnet Magazine\, and more. Donato the subject of features in Rolling Stone\, UPROXX\, Garden & Gun and Relix. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country made their network television debut on CBS Saturday Morning and appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic online series. \n\n\n\nThe whole package of player\, singer\, writer and band leader was in place. McLuhan\, who died in 1980\, had never heard of the internet\, YouTube\, music streaming platforms – and neither did the vast majority of songwriters whose work she champions: Frank Loesser\, Meredith Willson\, Ray Noble\, Sammy Cahn\, or Jimmy Van Heusen.  Likewise\, none of the great artists whose legacy she honors\, like Judy Garland\, Frank Sinatra\, Nat “King” Cole\, or Rosemary Clooney\, would know what it meant to “go viral.” As it happens\, this is how Stella Cole first got noticed by the music industry and\, more importantly\, the larger world beyond: by performing her own interpretations of classic American popular standards and using the internet to share them.  However\, a closer look reveals that these iconic artists were no less keen to embrace new media: long-playing recordings\, television\, stereophonic sound – these were all new technologies in the 1940s and ‘50s. The idea of bringing classic American songs to new platforms hardly begins with the young Stella\, yet she has accomplished that more resoundingly successfully than virtually any other artist working today. Stella is quickly becoming known for her signature mix of jazz standards\, Broadway gems\, and beloved tunes from the Great American Songbook. Her sound is familiar\, yet fresh and stands at the crossroads of past and present\, classic and contemporary. The evening will include performances by musician\, Terry Conrad\, at 6:00 pm\, 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. \n\n\n\nOTHERWISE features new work by 20 artists who participated in Open AIR’s 2025 Artists-in-Residence program. Across the exhibition\, artists explore the intersections of science\, history\, and imagined worlds\, often merging these influences into distinct and self-defined genres. Several works reflect on life in a near future\, offering both preparation\, adaptation\, and musings for tomorrow. Other works pull from pieces of history and place\, and model or offer a type of field guide to the near future about what is precious – over and over\, it is place and community. Their messages feel especially wise in today’s climate. \n\n\n\nDrawing inspiration from their residency sites\, artists employed a range of approaches—some engaging traditional making techniques\, others assembling found materials into new forms\, or developing works intended for performance within the exhibition space. \n\n\n\nOTHERWISE offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the Open AIR residency experience. The exhibition invites the public to encounter the diverse perspectives and creative expressions that emerge when artists deeply engage with place and community\, and to consider the processes and pathways that led to the realization of each work.
