SUMMARY:Local Author Julie Petrou - Reading and Signing at Fact & Fiction
DESCRIPTION:Meet local author Julie Petrou for a Reading and Signing at Fact & Fiction at 7:00 pm Wednesday\, March 18\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Books: \n\n\n\nShadows of Defiance: For Anna\, a teacher in 1952\, a simple errand becomes a journey into the past. Ripped from her own time and thrown into the brutal Second Seminole War of 1835\, she finds herself in a strange world\, with a purpose she doesn’t understand. Although drawn to Alligator\, a brave Muskogee leader\, Anna’s true mission is to save the life of a woman who will become her great-great-grandmother. Every step in the past is a fight for her family’s future\, yet a bond with Alligator forms\, leading to a connection more profound than she could have imagined. Anna soon learns that her visit to the past has created a link that can never be broken. Unwillingly returned to her own time\, she is heartbroken\, pregnant\, and alone. Having completed her mission by saving her ancestor\, she must accept the impossible truth: she is carrying Alligator’s child\, a legacy that will forever bind her to a century she was never meant to be a part of. \n\n\n\nGuardian: Origin of the Amulet: When the Spanish arrive on Incan soil\, Aniya’s fate is sealed – until her father\, a master of ancient mystical enchantments\, forges a powerful amulet to protect her. But\, protection comes at a price. Torn between duty and heart\, the young conquistador\, Mateo\, defies an empire to save her and rescue her family from an uncertain fate. Together the flee to the quiet shores of Guadeloupe\, hoping to build a life of peace. But the world they left behind refuses to forget them. With pirates on the horizon and old enemies closing in\, they must stand together. Aniya and Mateo rely on the amulet’s true power to protect them against impossible odds. They’re not only fighting for their lives\, they’re also fighting for their legacy. \n\n\n\nDream Keeper: Until now\, Andrea had never put stock in the mystic foretelling of a Tarot Reading. Her purchase of an enchanted amulet\, combined with a more than mysterious reading\, began a nightmare that whisked her away from all she knew and into a life of numerous dangers. Unwillingly thrust into a different century\, Andrea finds her purpose in 1798\, having been escorted to a place and a time that needs the amulet’s help. Fear\, friendship\, romance\, and history are played like instruments by the amulet’s divination\, as Andrea unravels the threads of its deeper story. Dream Keeper immerses the reader in life after war and the resettling of a diverse culture. This mesmerizing story will draw you into a mystery alongside a young woman who struggles with the turmoil of modern crimes against humanity and the trauma of being a victim. \n\n\n\nAbout the Author: Julie Petrou was born and raised in Idaho and now makes her home in western Montana. Having raised her children\, she now enjoys spending time with her grandchildren whenever she gets the chance. The author of three books\, she loves to see the results of her labors\, whether through gardening\, crafts\, reading\, or\, most of all\, writing. Always having a place in her heart for history\, she is currently focused on indigenous tribes. She applauds their continued reverence and respect for their traditions. Embracing the outdoors\, her family\, friends\, and her puppy companions\, Julie loves to create worlds through her writing that give life to her stories; both those of the present and those who came before us\, hoping they will be understood and appreciated for years to come.

SUMMARY:The Last Voyage Pinball Tournament at OddPitch Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Before half a dozen of the old machines make their way to the door\, Missoula’s OddPitch Brewing hosts The Last Voyage Pinball Tournament 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday\, March 20\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the past few years\, the sound of silverball has been part of the rhythm of OddPitch. What started as just a couple of machines slowly grew into a proud little fleet. Each one brought its own personality to the room and carried the echoes of countless battles across the glass. There have been rivalries\, miracle multiballs\, and late night victories that felt like legends in the making. \n\n\n\nBut as every old sailor knows\, the tide eventually turns. \n\n\n\nAs our community continues to grow\, so do the gatherings that bring everyone together. Bingo nights pack the house. Trivia fills every table. And soon\, we hope to raise our voices together with karaoke as well. To make room for the next chapter of OddPitch\, the time has come to dial the lineup back and clear more space for seating and larger events. \n\n\n\nSo before six of our machines sail off into the horizon\, we are giving them the send-off they deserve. \n\n\n\nJoin us for one final battle across these decks in a tournament played in their honor. A proper farewell for the machines that helped shape our little silverball corner of Missoula. The tournament format will be Group Matchplay Fair Strikes with six strikes. When a player reaches six strikes\, their voyage ends. \n\n\n\nBut there is another treasure to be claimed. \n\n\n\nEach time a player is eliminated from the tournament\, the player who took first place on that final game claims their bounty coin (provided by OddPitch). At the end of the night\, bounty coins can be turned in for $5 each. OddPitch will match the entry pool to fund the bounty\, so the hunt will be worth the chase. Even if you don’t make Top 4\, you can still come out with some coin to brag about. \n\n\n\nEntry is $5 plus coin drop. The entry pool will be paid out to the Top 4 finishers\, and OddPitch will cover all IFPA fees. \n\n\n\nRaise a glass\, flip the flippers\, and join us as we send these old companions off with the respect they’ve earned. One last voyage. One last battle. And plenty of treasure to claim before they sail.

This is a fully-seated event with general admission seated floor and reserved balcony seating tickets available. All ages are welcome. \n\n\n\nTake a look at these tips to best prepare yourself for a smooth ticket buying experience. \n\n\n\nAdditional ticketing and venue information can be found here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Jeff TweedyWhen you align yourself with creativity and creation\, you align yourself with something that other people call God. And if you align yourself with creation\, you have automatically taken a side against destruction. You’re on the side of creation. And that does a lot to quell the impulse to destroy. \n\n\n\nIs the world getting darker? Sure feels like it. What is it? Is it the pervasive nagging toothache of dread that comes with witnessing the disintegration of a country that you thought you knew and understood? A home you still love with a love that could never be taken away\, regardless of how painful that love has become. That sense of decline is hard to ignore\, and it must at least be a part of the shroud  I’m trying to uncover. The twilight of an empire seems like a good enough jumping-off point when one is jumping into the abyss. \n\n\n\nTwilight sure is a pretty word\, though. And the world is filled with former empires\, so maybe that’s not where this dissonance is coming from entirely. Could be how old I’ve managed to become without warning. My own personal Twilight. What ever it is out there (or in there) squeezing this ennui into my day\, it’s fucking overwhelming. It’s difficult to just ignore. Twilight Override is my effort to overwhelm it right back. Here are the songs and sounds and voices and guitars and words that are an effort to let go of some of the heaviness and up the wattage on my own light. My effort to engulf this encroaching nighttime (nightmare) of the soul. \n\n\n\nWhat I really want to do is grow my heart big enough to love everyone. And if I want a heart to grow big enough to meet this moment\, it requires something expansive. “Like a TRIPLE record!?”\, you ask? Yes! Like a goddamn triple record! I mean…What else do I have but my songs and my family and my friends? What else do any of us have to keep the lights on? How else can I generate my own light? To me any song\, no matter what the subject matter\, can be a point of light and that’s one of the reasons I try and make so many of them. They all have the potential\, even the heaviest music on the Earth has the potential\, to lift someone up. This sounds like a Hallmark card\, but it rocks harder than a Hallmark card. \n\n\n\nI’m aware the day ends and the sun sets no matter how hard we wish for it to lift itself back out of the ocean. So I guess what we’re really talking about is time. In a way these three records represent the past\, present and future. The darkness comes and goes. But the clock keeps plowing ahead. We all want more. But not more of this particular shitty time. It feels like the clock is camped out at the worst part of the day. Everyone stuck saying goodbye to the future they woke up to. Waiting for it to get dark enough to dream up a new day. \n\n\n\nTruthfully\, I’ve been doing this for a long time. And I’m not going anywhere. This is the stuff that works for me. I can’t sing and be afraid at the same time. And dreaming at twilight isn’t forbidden. Not quite a daydream and nowhere near a nightmare. Twilight dreaming is a lovely workaround. Killing time with key changes and harmonies. Feel free to join us all here. Not singing into the void or at the void. Just singing. Feeling good. Together. It will do you no harm. Sharing this music with the world is the best I can do. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Macie StewartMacie Stewart is a musician and multi-disciplinary artist based in Chicago\, IL. Heralded for their versatility\, Stewart works with piano\, violin\, guitar\, voice\, and synthesizers\, effortlessly traversing styles and scenes. Stewart is a distinguished\, go-to collaborator who Pitchfork credits with “making some of the best tracks of the past five years transcendent.” \n\n\n\nAs a composer\, Stewart’s work continues to dissolve the boundaries between disciplines. Aside from her debut record\, “Mouth Full of Glass” released in 2021 on Orindal Records and rereleased in 2022 on Full Time Hobby Records- Macie also composed a piece for Hubbard Street Dance’s film\, “Half of Us\,” alongside Sima Cunningham in 2021. That same year\, they worked with Sima Cunningham and Alex Grelle to produce a performance piece paying homage to Kate Bush. In 2022\, Stewart/Cunningham composed the score for a 50-piece orchestra premiering the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s “Before I Was.” And in 2023\, choreographer Robyn Mineko Williams enlisted Stewart to create a sound installation for her dreamlike performance piece\, Hisako House. Most recently\, Stewart was invited to compose a site-specific piece for the ESS Florisonic Installation at Lincoln Park Conservatory. As part of the longest running sound installation in North America\, their twenty-minute composition titled “The World Doubles in Size” played in the conservatory’s fern room from September through November of 2024.

SUMMARY:Kitchen Dwellers (Night 1) at The Top Hat
DESCRIPTION:Logjam Presents welcomes Kitchen Dwellers for a live (Night 1) performance at The Top Hat in Downtown Missoula at 10:30 pm Friday\, April 24.\n\n\n\n\n\nLogjam Presents welcomes Kitchen Dwellers for a live performance at The Top Hat in Downtown Missoula at 10:30 pm Friday\, April 24. \n\n\n\nTickets on sale at Logjam Presents Box Offices and online while supplies last. All tickets are general admission standing room only with limited bench seating. All ages are welcome. \n\n\n\nTake a look at these tips to best prepare yourself for a smooth ticket buying experience. \n\n\n\nAdditional ticketing and venue information can be found here. \n\n\n\n\n\n** Tickets for the Top Hat performance on Friday\, April 24\, 2026 are only available by purchasing a Two Night Pass.Individual tickets for the Top Hat performance cannot be purchased. ** \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Kitchen DwellersIn Dante’s Inferno\, the author grapples with sin\, its various manifestations\, and its consequences. This time ultimately traces a trajectory of self-realization\, acceptance\, and accountability. Kitchen Dwellers embark on a similar odyssey over the course of their fourth full-length offering\, Seven Devils. The Montana quartet—Shawn Swain [Mandolin]\, Torrin Daniels [Banjo]\, Joe Funk [Upright Bass]\, and Max Davies [Acoustic Guitar]—thread together an immersive and inimitable conceptual arc inspired by Dante’s Inferno and set to a soundtrack of folk-infused bluegrass spiked with psychedelic vision and rock energy.  \n\n\n\nContinuing their own journey as brothers\, they deliver their most ambitious and anthemic body of work yet. \n\n\n\n“These tunes deal with the human experience\, and Torrin initially drew a parallel between the music and Dante\,” Max states. “We explored the connection by correlating each song with a sin. Some of these connections are only apparent if you dive deep into the lyrics. Our goal is to essentially take the listener through our own interpretation of the Inferno story.”  \n\n\n\n“We didn’t go into the studio with the intent of making a concept album\,” recalls Torrin. “I was driving around listening to everything\, and I noticed these parallels. To dive deeper\, we’re discussing topics like mental health\, the human condition\, and what we go through on the road. In life and music\, everything is recurring and universal. I was reading Dante at the time\, and it naturally fit.” \n\n\n\nIt proved to be a logical next step as well… \n\n\n\nThus far\, Kitchen Dwellers have engaged and enraptured listeners with albums such as Ghost In The Bottle [2017]\, Muir Maid [2019]\, Live from the Wilma [2021]\, and Wise River [2022]. Of the latter\, Holler. praised how “Kitchen Dwellers have preserved their sense of youthful experimentation\,” and Relix proclaimed\, “The songs on the new record build on this range\, while also reflecting on the group’s Bozeman\, Montana home.” Between tallying millions of streams\, the band ignited hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and graced the bills of Telluride Bluegrass\, Northwest String Summit\,  WinterWonderGrass\, and beyond.  \n\n\n\nIn order to bring Seven Devils to life\, the musicians opted to work with producer Glenn Brown. It would not only mark their first time collaborating with the producer\, but it also would be the first time they decamped to Michigan in order to record. \n\n\n\n“The studio itself definitely impacted the vibe\,” Torrin notes. “It’s a tiny workspace\, but it’s full of old recording equipment with legendary stories attached to it. For almost the entire time\, we were forced to congregate in this room together. The process was ever-evolving\, because ideas kept flowing.” \n\n\n\nFittingly\, “Seven Devils (Limbo)” opens the album and serves as the first single. Nimbly picked banjo and upbeat acoustic guitar set the pace as the regretful chorus bemoans\, “Am I supposed to hop the next train? Or stand here drowning in the Oregon rain?” A guitar-driven bridge dips in and out of effects-laden echoes and stark strumming. Coming full circle\, a ten-minute version of “Seven Devils” later bookends the record with an epic finale. \n\n\n\n“I incorporated some elements of grunge in terms of the chords\, which are a little dissonant\,” Torrin elaborates. “Thematically\, it’s the descent into Hell. First\, Dante goes through limbo before reaching any of the circles where the cardinal sins are addressed. ‘Seven Devils’  evokes the feeling of being in limbo.” \n\n\n\n“It also signifies you’re embarking on some type of journey\,” Max agrees. “By the end of the LP\, you know the protagonist isn’t going to be the same person.” \n\n\n\nThen\, there’s “The Crow and The Raven (III).” The track’s emotionally charged vocals seesaw on top of strings in a moment of terse reflection. “I went through a horrible breakup in 2018 when I wrote the first version\,” Shawn remembers. “‘The Crow and The Raven (III)’ sat in my notebook for a half-decade before we revamped it. Now\, it’s a sad\, slower lament about enduring the loss of a relationship.” \n\n\n\n“Pendulum” rushes towards a mournful refrain offset by a plucky crescendo. “It’s about dealing with an addiction in your life and how it affects relationships\,” Joe says. “People often trade one addiction for another\, whether positive or detrimental to their life\, as a means to satisfy their baseline addictive tendencies.” \n\n\n\nOn the other end of the spectrum\, “Here We Go (VI)” laments the epidemic of shootings in America with unfiltered frustration projected through a powerful ebb and flow punctuated by a cameo from Lindsay Lou. \n\n\n\n“I was riding a Greyhound from Seattle to Missoula in 2012\,” Max goes on. “There had just been another school shooting. It’s terrible to think of how many shootings have happened since. Why is this happening? The chorus shifts gears to miscommunication between two parties in a relationship. Those are the two driving forces.” \n\n\n\nAn electric guitar lead heralds the onset of “Unwind (Paradiso)\,” building towards one climactic moment of catharsis. \n\n\n\n“A psychedelic experience and life-changing ego death changed my outlook on many things\,” Torrin admits. “‘Unwind (Paradiso)’ was one of those moments where you surrender and let it take you. You’re letting go of the human things in your brain that make you want to fight or cause you to be afraid. It also came together in the studio as a band\, which was super cool.” \n\n\n\nIn the end\, Kitchen Dwellers may just leave you changed with Seven Devils. \n\n\n\n“The record is a trip inward within the self\,” Torrin concludes. “It tackles a lot of things in the world people try not to think about. The reality is we’re only truly happy when happiness comes from within. That’s the message.”
