SUMMARY:Open AIR "We Know This Forest" 3-Day Workshop with Candace Carlock at Traveler's Rest State Park
DESCRIPTION:RSVP to attend Open AIR’s 3-day April Workshop Series “We Know This Forest” let by Candace Garlock at Traveler’s Rest State Park in Lolo 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Mondays April 13\, April 20 and April 27\n\n\n\n\n\nWE KNOW THIS FOREST\, led by Open AIR Spring artist-in-residence and educator Candace Garlock\, is a community-based art project that uses the metaphor of a dense\, shifting forest to explore the nonlinear\, often unpredictable experience of living with chronic conditions and disability. It creates space for participants to share stories\, images\, and reflections that honor both the difficulty and resilience found in these lived landscapes while exploring shared ecological memory and identity through collaborative woodcut and casting workshops. While the project invites people with chronic conditions and disabilities to engage\, participation does not require disclosing any diagnosis\, disability status\, or health information unless they personally choose to share it.For more information about this national project\, visit www.weknowthisforest.com. \n\n\n\nThis workshop meets on 3 consecutive Mondays\, and we hope to work with a consistent group of 5-8 individuals. Lunch will be provided. \n\n\n\nFree Registration Required. RSVP REGISTRATION LINK

Renowned clinical psychologist and criminal expert Dr. Rachel Toles explores the terrifying minds of the world’s most infamous serial killers\, revealing how many lived undetected among their neighbors for years before being apprehended. \n\n\n\nIn this intense and thought-provoking presentation\, Dr. Toles confronts the questions we’re both afraid and compelled to ask: Who are these notorious killers? How does a seemingly ordinary person become a mass murderer? Why are we so fascinated by them? Why are most serial killers white males? And why do some women fall in love with serial killers? \n\n\n\nThrough expert analysis and real-world case studies\, Dr. Toles leads audiences on a chilling journey into the psychology of these dark individuals\, uncovering the patterns\, myths\, and unsettling truths behind their crimes. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: • Cell phones must be turned to the Off position (not vibrate) or put in airplane mode during the performance.• The show contains graphic and disturbing content and is for mature audiences only. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Dr. Rachel TolesDr. Rachel Toles is a licensed clinical psychologist in both the state of California and the state of Minnesota.  Dr. Toles’ current clinical areas of practice include\, but are not limited to: treating relationship\, intimacy\, and sexual problems\, anxiety\, trauma\, depression\, addiction\, and poor impulse control.  Dr. Toles also performs psychological fitness for duty evaluations and court evaluations\, which include psychological and neuropsychological testing. \n\n\n\nWith extensive experience in both clinical and forensic evaluation settings\, Dr. Toles has dedicated herself to understanding the motivations\, behaviors\, and patterns of dangerous criminals.  Dr. Toles has also served as an expert witness for court cases\, utilizing her criminal forensic expertise and psychological evaluation skills to help bring justice and understanding to these legal proceedings.  Additionally\, she has worked intimately with female inmates who suffer from acute mental illnesses at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood\, California\, under the supervision of Dr. Michael Maloney\, a forensic psychologist in the Menendez Brothers case. \n\n\n\nShe attained broad-ranging academic and professional training from the University of Southern California\, the California School of Professional Psychology (APA accredited doctoral program)\, and the University of Winnipeg (Canada).  Her clinical training includes individual and group therapy at Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center in Hollywood\, California\, and individual therapy and psychodiagnostic testing at Airport Marina Counseling Services. In addition\, her postdoctoral fellowship involved working with children and administering psychodiagnostic tests at the Reiss Davis Child Study Center.   \n\n\n\nDr. Toles is in high demand as a lecturer and speaker\, sharing her knowledge on profiling and understanding the minds of serial offenders.  In her private practice\, Dr. Toles approaches each client uniquely\, and helps her clients develop coping skills based on their individual needs. This special tour\, 50 Years of Positive Vibrations\, highlights select cuts from Rastaman Vibration alongside the timeless classics that continue to unite audiences across generations. Released in 1976\, Rastaman Vibration was a pivotal album that carried reggae’s message of resistance\, spirituality\, and hope onto the global stage. Songs like “Positive Vibration\,” “Roots\, Rock\, Reggae\,” and “War” remain as relevant today as ever — powerful expressions of music as both a cultural force and a call for unity. Under the leadership of Aston Barrett Jr.\, son of legendary bassist Aston “Familyman” Barrett\, The Wailers continue to honor their roots while carrying the music forward with purpose and authenticity. Joined by Mitchell Brunings\, whose soulful vocals and commanding stage presence have captivated audiences worldwide\, the band delivers performances that embody the enduring spirit of reggae — uplifting\, conscious\, and deeply human. In a unique crossover into film\, Aston Barrett Jr. portrayed his father in the 2024 biopic Bob Marley: One Love\, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and starring Kingsley Ben-Adir. His portrayal added rare authenticity\, grounded in lived experience and a deep personal connection to the legacy. Alongside honoring the past\, The Wailers remain firmly rooted in the present. Their recent albums One World and Evolution — both Grammy-nominated — reaffirm the band’s creative vitality. Evolution\, produced by Grammy Award-winner Emilio Estefan Jr. on Crescent Moon Records\, blends classic roots reggae with contemporary global influences\, with songs like “Love Should Be Free” resonating worldwide for their positive and socially conscious message. Audiences can expect a soul-stirring setlist that weaves together the revolutionary spirit of Rastaman Vibration\, the band’s classic anthems\, and select modern highlights — all delivered with the same authenticity\, musicianship\, and heart that made The Wailers a cornerstone of global music. 50 Years of Positive Vibrations is more than a tour — it’s a celebration of music with meaning\, a living connection between reggae’s golden era and its continuing power to inspire unity\, resilience\, and hope.

One of today’s most thoughtful and prolific voices\, he has released eleven studio albums including 2019’s widely acclaimed ‘Fever Breaks’ of which NPR Music praised\, “He remains a hydrant of ideas while embodying an endless capacity for empathy and indignation\, often within a single song.” \n\n\n\nHis twelfth studio album ‘I Believe in You\, My Honeydew’ is out now. Two-plus decades into his celebrated career\, Ritter has written music that has transcended generations including luminaries such as Bob Dylan\, Joan Baez\, and Bob Weir covering his songs. \n\n\n\nThe Book of Gold Thrown Open tour is meant to encompass the whole of Ritter’s career\, versus focusing on any one studio album. \n\n\n\nIn addition to his work as a musician\, Ritter is also a national best-selling author\, having released two novels to date: 2021’s The Great Glorious Goddamn of It All and 2011’s Bright’s Passage. He’d be forgiven for loosening his grip\, but his hand has never felt surer.”– NPR Music \n\n\n\n“Harking back to Bob Dylan\, Bruce Springsteen and maybe a little Mark Knopfler\, Mr. Ritter has always been a slinger of serious ideas and high-flown imagery.”– The New York Times \n\n\n\n“Mysterious\, melancholy\, melodic…and those are only the M’s.”– Stephen King in Entertainment Weekly

SUMMARY:Entr'acte - Solo Exhibition by Nic Fischer at Cassens Fine Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Entr’acte – Solo Exhibition by Nic Fischer at opening artist reception at Cassens Fine Art Gallery in Hamilton 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday\, April 17\n\n\n\n\n\nEntr’acte is French for the pause between acts\, and it is the only word Nic Fischer felt was equal to what he has been painting. Every work in this collection lives in an interval: a sunrise not yet day\, a hillside caught between winter and spring\, a landscape in an exact moment that everything is about to change. Working in oils onsite\, Fischer builds each painting intentionally slowly\, sometimes over the course of a year\, until the passing moment he first witnessed becomes the story he wants it to tell. The result is nine works that put you inside every moment. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is available in the Cassens Gallery and online through May 15\, 2026. Join us on Friday\, April 17\, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for the opening reception with the artist.

The band has made it a point to evolve with every album – sometimes dramatically so – never allowing themselves to become too comfortable in one genre or rest on any of their impressive career laurels. It’s an approach that has grown their audience but also challenged it with a sonic identity that can shift in wild\, unexpected directions. Now with their twelfth album\, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…\, AFI are once again at the start of a bold new chapter\, only this time they’ve even managed to surprise themselves. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Choir Boy“Choir Boy” was what kids called singer/songwriter Adam Klopp in his early teens when he fronted punk cover bands in Cleveland\, Ohio. An intended insult\, the label seemed fair and fitting in a way\, given Klopp’s religious upbringing and angelic voice. After high school\, Adam left Ohio for college in Utah. While his career as a student would prove short-lived\, he integrated into Provo and SLC’s underground music and art scene\, left religion behind\, and called his new band Choir Boy. \n\n\n\n“It seemed funny to me as sort of a comical reclamation of the mocking title I received from “punk” peers as a teen. While serving as a weird reflection of my childhood and musical heritage.” \n\n\n\nSince Choir Boy’s gorgeous debut Passive With Desire\, the dream-pop outfit has gained a cult following online and in underground circles. Adam’s stunning vocal range\, layered compositions\, and heartbreaking melodies are backed by musical partner Chaz Costello on bass (Fossil Arms\, Sculpture Club\, Human Leather)\, saxophonist and keyboardist Jeff Kleinman\, and guitarist Michael Paulsen\, together creating the perfect blend of nostalgia-laced romantic pop music we’ve been waiting years to hear.

SUMMARY:Pub Sing with Lake Missoula Old Time at Western Cider
DESCRIPTION:Join Lake Missoula Old Time for an a’capella community Pub Sing session at Western Cider from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm the 3rd Sunday each month\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin LMOT and Friends for a Pub Sing at our favorite local pub: Western Cider! This is a beginner-friendly collaborative singing gathering. \n\n\n\nPub Sing is a casual “singing jam” of sorts (not a performance!). A wide variety of songs are welcome\, but ones with catchy choruses\, call and response\, or that are generally “sing-along-able” work best. We take turns leading songs\, and everyone joins in on the chorus or other repeated parts. It’s also totally fine to just sing along! You don’t have to lead a song if you don’t want to. \n\n\n\nTraditional songs\, folk songs\, sea chanties\, etc. are all great genres to draw from. We sing a cappella\, so no instruments are needed. \n\n\n\nFeel free to bring print outs of lyrics to share 🙂We hope you’ll join us!

SUMMARY:Kitchen Dwellers with Madeline Hawthorne at Wachholz College Center
DESCRIPTION:Kitchen Dwellers play a live show with Madeline Hawthorne opening at 7:30 pm Thursday\, April 23 at Wachholz College Center on the FVCC campus in Kalispell\n\n\n\n\n\nDoors @ 6:30 pm \n\n\n\nKitchen Dwellers continue to carve out their own lane in the world of progressive roots music\, blending bluegrass\, folk\, and psychedelic grit into a sound as expansive as their Montana home. The Bozeman-born quartet of Shawn Swain (mandolin)\, Torrin Daniels (banjo)\, Joe Funk (upright bass)\, and Max Davies (acoustic guitar) has grown from regional upstarts into one of the most dynamic and forward-thinking bands in modern string music. Their catalog pairs instrumental virtuosity with emotional storytelling\, an exploratory spirit\, and a deep connection to the American West. \n\n\n\nIn 2024\, Kitchen Dwellers released their latest full-length studio album\, Seven Devils\, which arrived on March 1 and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart. The record expanded the band’s creative reach and reinforced their place at the forefront of progressive roots and bluegrass. \n\n\n\nThe band’s newest release\, The Katabatic EP\, highlights another side of their creative arc. Recorded in late November 2021 at Mighty Fine Studios in Denver and Peach Street Studios in Bozeman\, the three-song EP captures a vivid snapshot of wintertime inspiration in Montana. Rooted in sweeping landscapes and natural contrasts\, the EP blends mythic lyricism\, atmospheric instrumental interplay\, and a progressive blend of bluegrass\, folk\, and americana that has become the group’s signature. \n\n\n\nThe song “Madison” tells the story of a mystified angler on the Madison River\, drawing parallels between love and the unpredictable rhythms of fishing. The instrumentals “Mimas and Ida” and “Katabatic” broaden the sonic palette with guest trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom of Lettuce\, whose brass textures add lift\, spark\, and momentum. Shifting grooves\, evolving tempos\, and evocative melodies evoke mountain valleys\, windswept terrain\, and orbiting moons. The EP was produced by Kitchen Dwellers\, mixed by Stephan Gueguen and Max Davies\, and mastered by Stephan Gueguen. \n\n\n\nKitchen Dwellers have continued to earn national attention through consistent touring\, acclaimed studio work\, and an expanding grassroots following. Their studio album discography includes Ghost in the Bottle (2017)\, Muir Maid (2019)\, Wise River (2022)\, and Seven Devils (2024). Collectively\, these releases have amassed more than 15 million streams across platforms\, with recent NOCO releases accounting for more than 8 million. \n\n\n\nTheir vibrant live show has taken them to major festivals and iconic stages across the country. The band has performed at Bonnaroo Music Festival\, Telluride Bluegrass\, Under The Big Sky\, WinterWonderGrass\, Northwest String Summit\, and more. They have also achieved career milestones by headlining Red Rocks Amphitheatre and headlining the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.  Along the way\, Kitchen Dwellers have received praise from outlets such as Bluegrass Today\, Huffington Post\, Relix\, American Songwriter\, and additional national publications. \n\n\n\nKitchen Dwellers continue to evolve while staying rooted in the landscapes and creative curiosity that shaped them. With Seven Devils marking a major milestone and The Katabatic EP offering a distilled burst of artistic expression\, the band remains committed to pushing the boundaries of modern bluegrass and exploring new musical terrain. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Madeline HawthorneThe miles we travel make up the stories we tell.  The soles of your favorite boots or the tread on your prized car’s tires soak up the experiences and wisdom of the road under your feet. Born in New England\, based in Bozeman Montana\, singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist Madeline Hawthorne pens the kind of tunes you listen to on a cross-country trek to start anew or in the dead of night when you just need a reminder that somebody’s listening.  In this respect\, her 2024 independent album\, Tales From Late Nights & Long Drives\, serves as a fitting soundtrack to life’s trip. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPURCHASE TICKETS LINK \n\n\n\n**PLEASE NOTE**  THIS SHOW FEATURES GENERAL ADMISSION SEATING / STANDING ON MAIN FLOOR OF McCLAREN HALL WITH RESERVED SEATING IN THE BALCONY.Standard ticket prices start at $39.00\, inclusive of all fees. $1.00 from every ticket sold goes to charity BACKLINE .This show is presented by WCC.  No outside food or beverages allowed in Wachholz College Center.Recommended age limit 10+

This time ultimately traces a trajectory of self-realization\, acceptance\, and accountability. Kitchen Dwellers embark on a similar odyssey over the course of their fourth full-length offering\, Seven Devils. The Montana quartet—Shawn Swain [Mandolin]\, Torrin Daniels [Banjo]\, Joe Funk [Upright Bass]\, and Max Davies [Acoustic Guitar]—thread together an immersive and inimitable conceptual arc inspired by Dante’s Inferno and set to a soundtrack of folk-infused bluegrass spiked with psychedelic vision and rock energy.  \n\n\n\nContinuing their own journey as brothers\, they deliver their most ambitious and anthemic body of work yet. \n\n\n\n“These tunes deal with the human experience\, and Torrin initially drew a parallel between the music and Dante\,” Max states. “We explored the connection by correlating each song with a sin. Some of these connections are only apparent if you dive deep into the lyrics. Our goal is to essentially take the listener through our own interpretation of the Inferno story.”  \n\n\n\n“We didn’t go into the studio with the intent of making a concept album\,” recalls Torrin. “I was driving around listening to everything\, and I noticed these parallels. To dive deeper\, we’re discussing topics like mental health\, the human condition\, and what we go through on the road. In life and music\, everything is recurring and universal. I was reading Dante at the time\, and it naturally fit.” \n\n\n\nIt proved to be a logical next step as well… \n\n\n\nThus far\, Kitchen Dwellers have engaged and enraptured listeners with albums such as Ghost In The Bottle [2017]\, Muir Maid [2019]\, Live from the Wilma [2021]\, and Wise River [2022]. Of the latter\, Holler. praised how “Kitchen Dwellers have preserved their sense of youthful experimentation\,” and Relix proclaimed\, “The songs on the new record build on this range\, while also reflecting on the group’s Bozeman\, Montana home.” Between tallying millions of streams\, the band ignited hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and graced the bills of Telluride Bluegrass\, Northwest String Summit\,  WinterWonderGrass\, and beyond.  \n\n\n\nIn order to bring Seven Devils to life\, the musicians opted to work with producer Glenn Brown. It would not only mark their first time collaborating with the producer\, but it also would be the first time they decamped to Michigan in order to record. \n\n\n\n“The studio itself definitely impacted the vibe\,” Torrin notes. “It’s a tiny workspace\, but it’s full of old recording equipment with legendary stories attached to it. For almost the entire time\, we were forced to congregate in this room together. The process was ever-evolving\, because ideas kept flowing.” \n\n\n\nFittingly\, “Seven Devils (Limbo)” opens the album and serves as the first single. Nimbly picked banjo and upbeat acoustic guitar set the pace as the regretful chorus bemoans\, “Am I supposed to hop the next train? Or stand here drowning in the Oregon rain?” A guitar-driven bridge dips in and out of effects-laden echoes and stark strumming. Coming full circle\, a ten-minute version of “Seven Devils” later bookends the record with an epic finale. \n\n\n\n“I incorporated some elements of grunge in terms of the chords\, which are a little dissonant\,” Torrin elaborates. “Thematically\, it’s the descent into Hell. First\, Dante goes through limbo before reaching any of the circles where the cardinal sins are addressed. ‘Seven Devils’  evokes the feeling of being in limbo.” \n\n\n\n“It also signifies you’re embarking on some type of journey\,” Max agrees. “By the end of the LP\, you know the protagonist isn’t going to be the same person.” \n\n\n\nThen\, there’s “The Crow and The Raven (III).” The track’s emotionally charged vocals seesaw on top of strings in a moment of terse reflection. “I went through a horrible breakup in 2018 when I wrote the first version\,” Shawn remembers. “‘The Crow and The Raven (III)’ sat in my notebook for a half-decade before we revamped it. Now\, it’s a sad\, slower lament about enduring the loss of a relationship.” \n\n\n\n“Pendulum” rushes towards a mournful refrain offset by a plucky crescendo. “It’s about dealing with an addiction in your life and how it affects relationships\,” Joe says. “People often trade one addiction for another\, whether positive or detrimental to their life\, as a means to satisfy their baseline addictive tendencies.” \n\n\n\nOn the other end of the spectrum\, “Here We Go (VI)” laments the epidemic of shootings in America with unfiltered frustration projected through a powerful ebb and flow punctuated by a cameo from Lindsay Lou. \n\n\n\n“I was riding a Greyhound from Seattle to Missoula in 2012\,” Max goes on. “There had just been another school shooting. It’s terrible to think of how many shootings have happened since. Why is this happening? The chorus shifts gears to miscommunication between two parties in a relationship. Those are the two driving forces.” \n\n\n\nAn electric guitar lead heralds the onset of “Unwind (Paradiso)\,” building towards one climactic moment of catharsis. \n\n\n\n“A psychedelic experience and life-changing ego death changed my outlook on many things\,” Torrin admits. “‘Unwind (Paradiso)’ was one of those moments where you surrender and let it take you. You’re letting go of the human things in your brain that make you want to fight or cause you to be afraid. It also came together in the studio as a band\, which was super cool.” \n\n\n\nIn the end\, Kitchen Dwellers may just leave you changed with Seven Devils. \n\n\n\n“The record is a trip inward within the self\,” Torrin concludes. “It tackles a lot of things in the world people try not to think about. The reality is we’re only truly happy when happiness comes from within. That’s the message.”

All tickets are general admission standing room only with limited bench seating. All ages are welcome. \n\n\n\nTake a look at these tips to best prepare yourself for a smooth ticket buying experience. \n\n\n\nAdditional ticketing and venue information can be found here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Langhorne SlimFor more than two decades\, Langhorne Slim has been a fearless voice in modern Americana\, known for his raw emotion and rule-breaking spirit. On his ninth album\, The Dreamin’ Kind\, the Nashville-based songwriter plugs in his electric guitar and dives headfirst into big-hearted\, 1970s-style rock & roll. \n\n\n\nProduced by Greta Van Fleet’s Sam F. Kiszka\, the record pairs power chords and soaring hooks with the vulnerable storytelling that’s long defined Slim’s work. “It felt like I was blowing some old shit up so I could plant some new flowers\,” he says. “I love folk music\, but rock & roll tickles the same part of my soul. I wanted to explore that.” \n\n\n\nThe collaboration began after Slim opened for Greta Van Fleet\, leading to loose\, inspired sessions with Kiszka and drummer Danny Wagner. Together they built songs that move from the propulsive rush of “Rock N Roll” and the swagger of “Haunted Man” to the tender sweep of “Dream Come True” and “Stealin’ Time.” \n\n\n\nRecorded over a year in Nashville\, The Dreamin’ Kind bridges Slim’s rootsy past with a louder\, more expansive present. It’s a record of freedom and discovery\, equally at home\, in rock clubs\, and around campfires — proof that Langhorne Slim\, ever the dreamer\, still finds new ground to break with every song. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Laney Jones and The SpiritsLaney Jones grew up in the back swamps of Central Florida surrounded by orange groves\, kangaroos\, and endless quiet — the kind that lets a person dream in Technicolor. Today\, she channels that same sense of wonder and honesty into her Nashville-based band\, Laney Jones and the Spirits. Blending vintage rock with blaring riffs\, indie soul\, and cosmic Americana. \n\n\n\nTheir self-titled debut album captures the spirit of a band in full bloom – a kaleidoscope of sound and feeling that invites listeners to slow down\, reflect\, and reconnect.
