DESCRIPTION:Kaley Lane Eaton’s Plectrum Five bring their unique American roots / folk sound to Missoula’s Longstaff House 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm Friday\, June 26\n\n\n\n\n\nPart new music ensemble\, part American roots string band\, and part historical music excavators\, the conservatory punks of the Plectrum Five combine the improvisatory timbral explorations of their urban experimental orientation with the Rocky Mountain folk twang of their collective family trees (with a touch of Balkan flair\, and whatever else might be lingering in our ancestral pasts). When you hear the Plectrum\, you might imagine a covered wagon lilting harshly over the rocks and boulders of the Bozeman Trail\, the metal utensils clanging like the resonator\, bouzouki and banjo\, kids in the back crying like the cello\, all in a plodding rhythm that promises you’ll get there soon. You might be reminded of a time in the past when the only music you heard came from living\, breathing people playing wooden instruments\, who asked you to sing and dance along. This might evoke a deep knowing that survival\, joy\, and collective music-making\, are\, somehow\, intertwined.  \n\n\n\nThe Plectrum Five is fronted by artistic director Kaley Lane Eaton (vocals\, banjo\, other th(str)ings as needed)\, with Rian Souleles (Greek bouzouki)\, Tom Baker (guitar\, resonator guitar)\, Mariah Larsen/Lady Zade (cello)\, Jon Butler (bass and vocals)\, and Kayce Guthmiller (viola and vocals). Yes\, there are six people in the core band of the Plectrum Five. And sometimes\, there are even more – when we expand beyond this\, inviting global traditions to make something greater than the sum of our parts\, we become the Ineffable String Band. Limitless and unable to be captured or articulated\, we celebrate the ephemeral nature of music\, something so fragile and fleeting and yet strong enough to become the connective tissue of humanity.

The draft horse show provides a family-friendly event that offers education\, cultural history\, and fun for all ages with a small-town atmosphere. Feel firsthand the immense horsepower of these gentle giants when they pass in front of the grandstand. The Big Sky Draft Horse Expo offers the beauty\, grandeur\, and sheer power of today’s draft horses.The Expo’s goal is to educate the general public about draft horses\, mules\, and related equipment while entertaining the whole family. Several different breeds of magnificent draft horses and mules will be competing in classes during the three-day show. However\, this show is not just about the competitions\, it is about teamwork. Many of the participants are families who have owned and shown these draft animals for several generations. These families know what hard work is. Grandparents\, parents\, kids\, and grandkids are up early getting their horses and mules ready for the show or work. This is a year-round endeavor. \n\n\n\nThis exciting weekend boasts Show Hitch Classes including Cart Class\, Unicorn\, Unicorn\, Four\, Six Horse Confirmation Classes\, and several other classes open to the Show Hitches. There are also classes for those competitors who don’t own Show Hitches. This group is called the Open Class and these folks compete in working horse and driver classes; classes that feature skills such as log skidding\, precision\, and obstacle driving. There are even some classes that are based on SPEED! Also included in the show are classes for youngsters who are just getting started in this almost forgotten skill. \n\n\n\nExpo encourages our audiences to get involved. On Saturday Draft Horse 101 will be presented in front of the Grandstand. This is an opportunity to learn about draft horses\, harnessing\, and some of the equipment used in driving horses. There will be lots of time for questions. During the show\, there will be a time for kids to come down from the Grandstand and participate in a boot race or in stick horse barrel racing. Everyone is encouraged to visit the barns to meet the horses and their people. Bathing a one-ton animal is not nearly as easy as giving a bath to your dog. Harnesses are cleaned\, manes and tails are braided\, wagons and carts polished up. There is always something going on. This is where the public really gets an inside view of the devotion\, hard work\, and love these families have for their animals.
