But within those\, Donato has carved out a unique and individualized spot for himself\, one that speaks to the deep American music heritage that inspires him — and that he’s pushing towards the future with inspired\, intentional vigor. \n\n\n\nHe calls it Cosmic Country\, a moniker that’s both self-descriptive and a statement of purpose. It’s an organic rock band aesthetic with plenty of roadhouse twang; a showcase for Donato’s instrumental virtuosity and facility for melodically infectious songcraft. Bridging Nashville and the Great West\, Kentucky and mid-60s northern California\, tie-dye and plaid\, it’s a world of his own\, and a wide world of musical adventure at that. \n\n\n\nWhile growing up in Nashville his his father\, who turned his young son on to music of all genres\, suggested the fledgling and industriously minded (even at just 14) artist start busking in Nashville’s lower Broadway area and outside concerts\, for eight hours at a time on the weekends. One night\, the two happened by Robert’s Western World where legendary honky-tonk local mainstay the Don Kelly Band were performing. Donato eventually became a member of the band\, playing four hours a night at Robert’s (464 shows in total). \n\n\n\nHorizons is the follow up to 2023’s Reflector\, which received critical acclaim from a wide range of press\, including No Depression\, Glide Magazine\, Magnet Magazine\, and more. Donato the subject of features in Rolling Stone\, UPROXX\, Garden & Gun and Relix. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country made their network television debut on CBS Saturday Morning and appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic online series. \n\n\n\nThe whole package of player\, singer\, writer and band leader was in place. Three albums in\, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country\, featuring Nathan “Sugarlegg” Aronowitz (keyboards/guitars/vocals)\, Will “Mustang” McGee (bass/vocals) and Will “Bronco” Clark (drums\, percussion/vocals) are selling out venues throughout the country and bringing their brand of Cosmic Country to an ever growing\, passionate fanbase.

SUMMARY:Stella Cole at Wachholz College Center
DESCRIPTION:Classics vocalist Stella Cole brings the return of American standards to Wachholz College Center on the FVCC campus in Kalispell at 7:00 pm Wednesday\, February 4\n\n\n\n\n\nDoors @ 6:00 pm \n\n\n\nWCC welcomes STELLA COLE to the Flathead Valley! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLooking at the career of Stella Cole – whose third release\, It’s Magic\, released in August 2025 by Decca Records US – from a distance\, you might perceive a kind of disconnect\, as Marshall McLuhan would say\, between the medium and her message. McLuhan\, who died in 1980\, had never heard of the internet\, YouTube\, music streaming platforms – and neither did the vast majority of songwriters whose work she champions: Frank Loesser\, Meredith Willson\, Ray Noble\, Sammy Cahn\, or Jimmy Van Heusen. Likewise\, none of the great artists whose legacy she honors\, like Judy Garland\, Frank Sinatra\, Nat “King” Cole\, or Rosemary Clooney\, would know what it meant to “go viral.” As it happens\, this is how Stella Cole first got noticed by the music industry and\, more importantly\, the larger world beyond: by performing her own interpretations of classic American popular standards and using the internet to share them. However\, a closer look reveals that these iconic artists were no less keen to embrace new media: long-playing recordings\, television\, stereophonic sound – these were all new technologies in the 1940s and ‘50s. The idea of bringing classic American songs to new platforms hardly begins with the young Stella\, yet she has accomplished that more resoundingly successfully than virtually any other artist working today. Stella is quickly becoming known for her signature mix of jazz standards\, Broadway gems\, and beloved tunes from the Great American Songbook. Her sound is familiar\, yet fresh and stands at the crossroads of past and present\, classic and contemporary. Stella’s commanding stage presence and captivating voice have ushered her from rural Illinois to performing at New York’s biggest jazz venues\, including Dizzy’s at Jazz at Lincoln Center\, Birdland Jazz Club\, and Café Carlyle — and as a featured artist with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox\, she has toured the globe and collaborated on a cover of “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Website – Stella ColeStandard ticket prices start at $38.50\, inclusive of all fees. Students of all grade levels + Seniors receive 15% off standard prices. This show is presented by WCC. No outside food or beverages allowed in Wachholz College Center.Recommended age limit 6+

SUMMARY:Otherwise: Open AIR's Annual Group Exhibition Opening at Bob's Your Uncle
DESCRIPTION:Otherwise: Open AIR’s Annual Group Exhibition Opening featuring 20 local artists-in-residence and music by Terry Conrad at Bob’s Your Uncle in Missoula from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm First Friday\, February 6\n\n\n\n\n\nOtherwise: Open AIR’s Annual Group Exhibition Opening \n\n\n\nSeveral artists-in-residence will be present at this special reception. The evening will include performances by musician\, Terry Conrad\, at 6:00 pm\, 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. \n\n\n\nOTHERWISE features new work by 20 artists who participated in Open AIR’s 2025 Artists-in-Residence program. Across the exhibition\, artists explore the intersections of science\, history\, and imagined worlds\, often merging these influences into distinct and self-defined genres. Several works reflect on life in a near future\, offering both preparation\, adaptation\, and musings for tomorrow. Other works pull from pieces of history and place\, and model or offer a type of field guide to the near future about what is precious – over and over\, it is place and community. Their messages feel especially wise in today’s climate. \n\n\n\nDrawing inspiration from their residency sites\, artists employed a range of approaches—some engaging traditional making techniques\, others assembling found materials into new forms\, or developing works intended for performance within the exhibition space. \n\n\n\nOTHERWISE offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the Open AIR residency experience. The exhibition invites the public to encounter the diverse perspectives and creative expressions that emerge when artists deeply engage with place and community\, and to consider the processes and pathways that led to the realization of each work.

SUMMARY:Cozy Afternoon by Fact & Fiction with Local Poets at Missoula Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Join local poets for a live reading and record release in Cooper Room A at the Missoula Public Library\, for Pure Poetry presented by Fact & Fiction from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday\, February 7\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Missoula poets Aaron Jennings\, Dave Thomas\, James Jay\, Mark Gibbons\, and Sheryl Noethe for an afternoon of tea and poetry at the Missoula Public Library. Poets will share their work with the audience\, and Aaron Jennings will play live music leading up to and shortly after the event. Fact and Fiction will be on hand to sell work from the authors. \n\n\n\nWailing Aaron Jennings is a singer and songwriter living in Missoula\, Montana. A third-generation Montanan who had the good luck or bad timing to be born in Texas. Inspired and challenged by a book of songs and poetry written by his Great-Grandfather; a singing cowboy in the 1920’s and the words “Yodel Here” a young punk unplugged his guitar and started hooting and hollering in the mountains\, valleys\, and tunnels. \n\n\n\nDave Thomas is never just somewhere\, he’s somewhere you never know until he writes it…a burst of shadows…growing new beans in the guts of despair… Railroad Gravel is a book of praise poems for a way through this world… our history smoldering and flaming all around us…with friends\, many of whom have dissolved into ink and now you\, dear reader. –Craig Czury\, author of Postcards & Ancient Texts \n\n\n\nJames Jay has taught poetry and writing at public schools\, jails\, community colleges\, Northern Arizona University\, the University of Nebraska Omaha\, and given Irish Literature lectures at the Arizona Highland Celtic Festival. For a decade\, he served as the president of the Northern Arizona Book Festival. He recently attended the Yeats International Summer School in Sligo. Currently\, he teaches poetry for the Missoula Writing Collaborative. His poetry and fiction have appeared in Cutbank\, Fourteen Hills\, A Dozen Nothing\, The Huffington Post\, and numerous other journals and magazines. His poetry was selected for the New Poets of the American West anthology. For a decade he wrote a biweekly column\, Bartender Wisdom\, for FlagLive!\, an arts and entertainment newspaper. He owns a pub with his wife\, the musician and runner Aly Jay. They have two sons and three dogs (they’re a wily pack). As often as he can\, he plays the ancient Irish game of hurling as a fullback for the Thomas Meagher Hurling Club in Missoula\, Montana\, and he’s the head coach for the University of Montana Griz Hurling Club. \n\n\n\nMark Gibbons grew up in Alberton\, Montana\, where in 1970 he took a poetry workshop in high school taught by an unpublished poet\, James Welch. A student of Richard Hugo’s\, Welch\, went on to become an acclaimed Native American writer. He gave Mark permission to write poetry in his own voice\, out of his own experiences\, and he has been writing ever since. Gibbons taught high school English for a decade and earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Montana. The first college graduate in his Irish-immigrant family\, Mark has held a variety of the blue-collar jobs available to those determined to stay in Montana at all costs. He’s taught poetry in Montana for forty years and was involved with Poetry Out Loud for the last two decades\, since its inception. Mark served as the 10 th Montana Poet Laureate and is the author of thirteen collections of poetry. Mark lives with his wife\, Pam\, in Missoula. \n\n\n\nSheryl Noethe is a poet and founder of the Missoula Writing Collaborative. Noethe is the author of the poetry collections Grey Dog Big Sky (FootHills Publishing\, 2013); As Is (Lost Horse Press\, 2009); The Ghost Openings (Grace Court Press\, 2000)\, winner of a 2001 Pacific Northwest Book Award; and The Descent of Heaven Over the Lake (New Rivers Press\, 1984). Noethe is also the coauthor with Jack Collom of Poetry Everywhere: Teaching Poetry Writing in School and in the Community (Teachers & Writers Collaborative\, 1994). Noethe has received a CutBank Richard Hugo Memorial Poetry Award\, a Minnesota Voices Award from New Rivers Press\, and an Academy of American Poets Award. She was also the recipient of a 1998 Montana Arts Council Fellowship\, a McKnight Fellowship\, and a 1990 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. In 2004\, Noethe was recognized for her work in Missoula schools with the Cultural Achievement Award from the Missoula Cultural Council. In 2011\, Noethe became Montana’s fourth Poet Laureate\, an office she held until 2013. The Montana Arts Council awarded her the Artist Innovation Award in 2021. She is the poetry editor for High Desert Journal.
