St. Patrick’s Weekend PICKS: Thursday, March 17th thru Sunday, March 20th
Get ready! We’ve compiled the most comprehensive list of this weekend’s events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
Of course, Thursday is St. Patrick’s Day to help dive off the deep end. By all means, celebrate responsibly and well. Most food and beverage establishments have some sort of Irish celebration, many with music for the occasion. In case you missed it, Friday evening will be full moon. Recharge those crystals and make the most of it. Last but not least, Sunday is the Vernal Equinox, our favorite fancy schmancy word for the first day of Spring. Buh-bye Winter!
This last week of light rain has gone a long way toward melting the snow around turn, placing us squarely in “mud season” as we so fondly refer to this stretch. That same wave of precip has dropped fresh snow on many of our local ski areas to continue with respectable spring skiing conditions. Some even with fresh powder this week. Check the links here for current conditions at Snowbowl, Lost Trail, Whitefish, Blacktail and Discovery. TNR is already having the first Thursday Night Ride of the year to scout the conditions on Missoula’s MoZ trail, and things are looking promising for a sweet spring mountain biking season. Good rule: don’t ride if you’ll be leaving big ruts, whether it’s snowy or muddy. It’s early; be patient.
We’re counting nearly 90(!) live music shows of one kind or another in the area. We challenge you to find another part of the country with such a high level of local music to choose from.
The winter markets on Saturdays are still here for a couple more weeks to get your local craft shopping fix handled.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, and Phillipsburg.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

An Irish toast:
“Here’s to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking.
If you cheat, may you cheat death.
If you steal, may you steal a woman’s heart.
If you fight, may you fight for a brother.
And if you drink, may you drink with me.”

Sasha Bell Band / Trans Future / Brute Finesse
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main, Missoula, Montana
$10 Purchase advance tickets at: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/sasha-bell-band…/
Known for her work with Elephant 6 psych pop group, The Essex Green, and New York baroque ensemble Ladybug Transistor – Sasha Bell is a multi-faceted performer and musician most heralded for her melodious voice and lithe instrumentation. Self-described as New Wave Soul and Roll, Trans Future’s sound reflects the eclectic influences that warrant the inventive term, but a closer listen reveals their music is as much about what’s not there as what is. Each musician’s part is salient and distinct, but leaves space for the musical conversation to unfold. While space can be what makes things fall apart, the space TF creates is the architectural element that holds their music so tightly together. Trans Future recently signed to CorpoRAT Records, and are working on their debut full length album. Brute Finesse is Psychedelic hip-hop from Missoula featuring Sean Burress, Coach Shane Rooney, Nicole Cannavaro, and Larry Hirshberg. Nobody sounds like Brute Finesse.

“I’m a singer-songwriter based in the Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana. I’ve been a singer for as long as I can remember. I picked up the guitar almost 20 years ago and wrote my first songs when I was still in high school. Not long after graduating in 2007, I began recording demos for my debut album and started performing at coffee shops. My first record, “As Young As Yesterday”, was released in 2008.In my 14+ years as a professional musician, I’ve written, recorded and self-released 12 full-length albums, a handful of EP’s, compilations and standalone singles. I describe my music as “pop punk folk rock”. Growing up in the Bay Area of California, I was exposed to pop punk music at an early age. Green Day, blink-182, New Found Glory, Saves the Day and Rancid to name a few. It’s my favorite genre; one that I have a deep, lifelong love and appreciation for. Storytellers like Bob Dylan and Woodie Guthrie are also a source of inspiration to me in my own songwriting and constructing narratives.”
