SUMMARY:First Friday with Sara Siestreem at Missoula Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Stop in at Missoula Art Museum for First Friday on May 1 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for an unforgettable evening celebrating the opening of Acts of Love\, Refusal\, and Resistance – a powerful new exhibit featuring the work of Sara Siestreem with music by Dylan Running Crane\n\n\n\n\n\nStop in at Missoula Art Museum for First Friday on May 1 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for an unforgettable evening celebrating the opening of Acts of Love\, Refusal\, and Resistance – a powerful new exhibition featuring the work of Sara Siestreem (Hanis Coos of the Confederated Tribes of Coos\, Lower Umpqua\, and Siuslaw Indians). Sara will be in attendance for an artist talk at 5:30 pm\, with music by Dylan Running Crane. \n\n\n\nMAM first presented Siestreem’s work in 2013\, and in the years since her artistic growth has been remarkable. Drawing on traditional basket weaving practices\, she weaves ancestral pattern motifs into bold geometric abstractions — proud and powerful expressions of Indigenous sovereignty. A recipient of the Hallie Ford Fellowship (2025) and elected 2025 National Academician by the National Academy of Design\, Siestreem is an artist in full stride\, and MAM is honored to welcome her back. \n\n\n\nSpecial thanks to the Elizabeth Leach Gallery for support in mounting this exhibition. \n\n\n\nThank you as well to Elizabeth Leach\, Janet Mohle-Boetani\, and Greg and Cathy Tibbles for the publication support\, as well as The Ford Family Foundation Visual Arts Program for exhibition support. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Celebrating Coyote at Missoula Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:“Celebrating Coyote” Native Sculpture Installation at Missoula Art Museum 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Tuesday\, October 28\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Missoula Art Museum for a special evening celebrating the installation of Es wičms č̓ es mlk̓ʷmulexʷ t snč̓l̓ep – Coyote is Seeing All of the Land\, a monumental 20-foot steel sculpture created by renowned artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (1940-2025\, Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation) in collaboration with her son Neal Ambrose Smith (Salish descendant). Realized in the final months of Quick-to-See Smith’s life\, this visionary work fulfills her long-held dream to create a sculpture for Missoula’s Art Park. The sculpture was fabricated locally by Wolf Magritte and stands as a bold\, playful\, and powerful presence. This powerful artwork reflects Quick-to-See Smith’s lifelong mission to amplify Indigenous voices and confront historical injustices. Set against the colonial façade of the old Carnegie Library building\, the sculpture is a strong declaration of ongoing Séliš presence. MAM is honored to see this visionary project come to life\, and to carry her work forward with her blessing. We invite the community to join Neal Ambrose Smith in celebrating Quick-to-See Smith’s lifelong legacy and the arrival of this landmark public artwork. A brief program of remarks will begin at 5:15 pm\, and is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Montana in Focus: A Conversation with photographer J.M. Cooper at Missoula Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Step into the beauty of Montana’s landscape through the lens of photographer J.M. Cooper 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday\, October 23 at Missoula Art Museum\n\n\n\n\n\nStep into the beauty of the Montana landscape through the eyes of photographer J.M. Cooper. This special event celebrates Cooper’s exhibition “Adel Sheep Shearing\, Sieben Live Stock Company” on view at the Missoula Art Museum from October 3 through February 21\, 2026. The striking black-and-white series documents the rhythms and rituals of ranch life at the historic Sieben Live Stock Company—a Montana ranch founded in 1868 and still in operation today. \n\n\n\nThrough a live conversation with the artist\, we’ll explore how Cooper’s work captures the enduring spirit of the West and how it connects to the remarkable true story told in the new biography\, Henry Sieben and the Montana Story by Ciara Ryan. The book will be available for purchase at the event. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear from the artist\, view the exhibition after hours\, ask questions\, and engage in an evening shaped by stories of labor\, land\, and legacy. Whether you’re drawn to photography\, Western history\, or the quiet strength of everyday life\, this event offers a rare and moving glimpse into Montana’s working landscapes and the people who sustain them. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Related
