If not\, come join us on this short\, but adventurous hike.This may be a shorter hike but a bit “off trail” so come prepared with gaiters or at least good pants that can take some deep snow and brush.~3.5 miles & 650′ elevation gain/lossTrailhead LocationMap of Route \n\n\n\nItems to bring for  hiking: \n\n\n\n\nwater                    * snacks\n\n\n\nheadlamp             * bear spray          \n\n\n\nlayers of clothing  * hiking poles\n\n\n\ngaiters\n\n\n\nfoot grippers (depending on snow and ice)\n\n\n\n\nWe have lots of gals coming in and out each week. Here are some good rules of thumb.* Try to get the group started soon after 6:00 pm* Do intros\, ask if we have any new gals and get a head count* Break into groups if needed & find a gal to coordinate each group* You don’t have to be the fastest in the group to lead but just make sure we don’t leave someone behind* Have fun! \n\n\n\nNote: No dogs are allowed in the Rattlesnake at this time of year. Friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join us on hikes. If your pup can be aggressive or unpredictable around other dogs/people\, please leave them at home. If your dog isn’t under voice control\, please plan to leash them up for your hike. Also\, make sure you check if the area is open to dogs. There are several closures that start December 1 and some are yearlong. DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a big TNR / Thursday Night MTB Missoula ride – meet at 6:00 pm at the main Rattlesnake Recreation Area trailhead lot to venture up for a Stuart Peak Bike & Hike\n\n\n\n\n\nStuart Peak Bike & HikeThis Thursday\, we’ll meet at 6:00 pm at the Rattlesnake Trailhead\, ride to the Wilderness Boundary\, and hike to Stuart Peak to watch the sunset. This is a long and somewhat challenging outing. The middle section—from the head of Spring Gulch to the Stuart Peak trail switchbacks—is a sustained climb. Everyone will likely need to hike-a-bike a bit or at least pause to catch their breath. \n\n\n\nOnce you reach the culvert\, the grade slackens and the switchbacks to the top make for great riding—both up and down. It’s about 8 miles to the Wilderness boundary and another mile to the peak (we’ll hike off-trail to take the most direct route). This is an out-and-back route\, so feel free to join for any portion and turn around at any point—just let someone know so we don’t wait for you. \n\n\n\nBoundary RidersSome folks will likely bike to the Wilderness Boundary and return to hopefully make it back before dark. Bring a light (or two) and some warm layers. A few years ago\, a broken chain forced a group to make an unplanned descent after dark. \n\n\n\nPeak BaggersIf you’re heading all the way to the peak\, a good night-riding light is a must. Bring warm layers for the descent and consider packing hiking shoes if you ride clipless. It’s about 8 miles to Franklin Bridge and roughly 14 miles to the end of the corridor. This is an out-and-back route\, so feel free to turn around at any point if you’re not up for the full distance.
