Can the Cats Canned Food Drive
Missoula Food Bank & Community Center
1720 Wyoming Street, Missoula, Montana
Are you craving competition?! The Annual Can the Cats Canned Food Drive is coming up Nov. 6-20th and we need YOUR help to beat the MSU Bobcats in this friendly, off-field, food drive competition!
This year is so different. Our local Food Bank is serving more people than ever before and families are utilizing our emergency food services for the very first time. Since the start of the pandemic, most of our major food drives have been cancelled this year so far. Now, more than ever before, we are counting on our community to put food on the tables of our friends & neighbors and out raise the Bobcats in this important food drive competition.
Learn more and donate online at www.canthecats.com. Stay up-to-date on special announcements, events, and drop off locations on our Facebook & Instagram pages.
If you are interested in hosting a Food Drive Donation Drop Spot, please register your organization or business at https://bit.ly/3op0n7Q.
Questions? Let us know! Contact events & marketing coordinator Amanda Ceaser at amanda@missoulafoodbank.org or call 406.549.0543.
For an accessibility accommodation, please contact the host.
Now in our 21st year, the annual Can the Cats Canned Food Drive is a friendly, off-field food drive competition between UM & the Missoula community and MSU & the Bozeman Community to see who can raise the most food & funds for our local communities. All donations collected in the Missoula area during this two-week food drive competition stay local and help stock the shelves at Missoula Food Bank & Community Center and the University of Montana Food Pantry.
In 2019, the Missoula community raised a grand total of 421,859 collective food & funds for our local Food Bank! Help us nourish our friends & neighbors experiencing food insecurity in our community this year and help us CAN the MSU Bobcats off the field!

Frame of Mind Presents Art from Amanda Bielby
Online Event
Amanda was the recipient of this year’s Juror’s Choice Award from our Juried Art Expo group show in July of this year. As a recipient of this award, Amanda is given the opportunity to have her own solo art show in the Frame of Mind gallery.
About the Artist
Working in the building trades, Amanda found herself unbalanced by developing painful arthritis through her back and shoulders. She desired her work and found a balance in Art. Amanda uses the techniques she learned as an industrial painter in her art to satisfy her passion to build and heal.
Amanda believes the laboring craftsmen in the building trades develop their own fine art over time. Her inspiration grows from life’s moments and her landscaped environment. Amanda’s artistic background has motivated her to incorporate leftover building materials that on the norm would be thrown away in our landfills. Stay Green…
About the Reception
We will not have an in person opening reception, but this show will be available for you to view virtually here: http://www.frameofmindmt.com/in-house-gallery/
If you do plan on visiting the gallery to view the show in person, please wear a mask or face covering and follow our directional arrows and social distancing markers.

SIGN UP HERE
https://bityl.co/4JbC
To visit the show during its opening weekend, we ask that you schedule your arrival time so that we can ensure social distancing. Sign up to reserve a 15-minute “arrival window.” Four people (max) will be admitted to the gallery every 15 minutes to keep the total number of concurrent visitors low—i.e. 8-12 at any one time. (Note, the arrival window simply specifies when you should arrive. You may experience the show fully and leisurely over the course of 30-60 minutes.) Artworks will also be posted and purchasable online at radiusgallery.com. Gift guides and wish lists coming soon!
To further ensure safety: floor signs will direct the flow of traffic through the galleries; we will sanitize handrails and surfaces between shifts; our state-of-the-art ventilation system keeps the air moving; disposable gloves will be provided so you can fondle the pottery, if desired. And, of course, everyone will wear a mask over their mouths and noses! Sure it’s weird, yet it allows us much needed and careful communion with the arts.
Now more than ever, celebrate creativity and RESIST THE INDUSTRIAL SANTA COMPLEX!

TIM THORNTON ARTIST STATEMENT
The subjects I choose to paint are emblematic of popular themes in American media and pop culture; I want my paintings to read at a glance like a billboard or a traffic sign.
I was raised in a Sunday church-going family, and as a youngster, I had little tolerance for the inevitable weekly service. In a desperate bid to quiet an unruly child, my mother seized on a reliable fallback, and provided me with a pencil and paper; I covered the religious pamphlets with my scribbling, and happily, this diversion proved to be successful. It has been working ever since. Making art continues to have a pacifying effect on my psyche.
I also have an unshakable tendency to identify with the character(s) from novels, the stage, and/or the movie screen. As a child, this process of identification lasted long after the book was closed, the curtain drawn, or the end credits rolled. In the film, “Being There”, the character of Chance the gardener says, “I like to watch.” I find that it’s neither accident nor chance event, that I too like to watch.
SHALENE VALENZUELA ARTIST STATEMENT
My ceramic sculptures reflect upon a variety of issues with a thoughtful, yet humorous and ironic tone. I reproduce everyday common objects primarily through slip casting, and illustrate the surfaces with hand painted imagery. The narratives I create reference fairytales, urban mythologies, consumer culture, societal expectations, etiquette, politics, and environmental issues. Stylistically, my imagery is pulled from somewhat dated sources that represent an idealized time in society and advertising. Beneath the shiny veneer of these relics hides a complex and sometimes contradicting truth of what things seem to appear as upon first glance.
My works are essentially a form of trompe l’oeil with a twist. In using clay to reinvent everyday objects, I play with the notion that things are not what they initially seem to be. The object being referenced remains recognizable while the illustrations are imperative in creating the narratives that weave various dialogues and statements within and about the physical object.
Exploring issues focusing on women is important to me for many reasons, most notably in examining my own personal history and how I evolved into who I am today. However, my investigations speak to a greater issue of how women in general perceive themselves and are seen in society, historically and today. My exploration of self-perception and expectations address how assumptions of character based on societal biases leads to a precarious and unbalanced state of humankind.

Pumpkin ReHarvest
Southgate Mall
2901 Brooks St, Missoula, Montana
Each year after Halloween, millions of “decorative” pumpkins end up in the landfill. One of the scariest parts of Halloween might just be the methane that comes off landfills when organic materials (like pumpkins) are buried!
Instead, we take your pumpkins to a local farm to feed their animals nutrient rich pumpkins all winter! They just eat it up!
Drop off bins will be provided at the Southgate Mall main entrance Tuesday November 3rd-Saturday November 7th.
You can drop your pumpkins off at the Southgate Mall or during our event hours. Please donate what you can.
*Please, no painted pumpkins or candles

Sarah Frazier creates soundscapes like the darkest of rural Montana nights when the stars look like diamonds floating in an impossibly deep inkwell. Heavy, graceful, and beautifully ominous.
Brendan Casey has been creating and performing homemade fantasy based electronic music under the moniker Katana Boy since the Spring of 2017. Inspired by the works of artists such as Four Tet and Jamie XX, as well as the expansive mystical landscapes of his home in Montana. Brendan uses his small collection of hardware synthesizers and drum machines to make dance beats that would be equally applicable on the dance floor as they would be providing the backdrop for a Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
Missoula Beats Club / Brendan Casey + Sarah Frazier is the tenth performance in our new series — ‘Social Distance Sessions’ — a live-stream production partnership between the ZACC and Missoula’s Community Media Resource (MCAT). Shows will be streamed to the ZACC’s Facebook and YouTube, and from MCAT’s Local Live website. Home audience members are asked to donate to the show’s Givebutter ‘virtual tip jar’ if able (use Venmo, Paypal, or a credit/debit card).
