Weekend PICKS: Thursday, April 7th thru Sunday, April 10th
Get ready! We’ve compiled the most comprehensive list of this weekend’s events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
Somehow, we survived “3rd Winter” this past week. Nicer Montana spring days ahead this weekend! Chilly mornings, sure, but we might see it break 70 on Saturday!
Most of us have parked our snow gear for the year, and we’re rotating out our spring outdoor sports collection. “Mud season” is already drying out, TNR is well into the MTB phase for the Thursday Night Rides, and getting over to Blue Mountain for this week’s adventure.
We’re counting something north of 70 live music shows of one kind or another in the area. We challenge you to find another part of the country with such a high level of local music to choose from.
The winter markets on Saturdays are still happening to get your local craft shopping fix handled. There are some good pre-Easter markets and craft shows to get ahead of the holiday next weekend.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, and Phillipsburg.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Scott H. Biram aka The Dirty Old One Man Band is an American blues, punk blues, punk, country, heavy metal musician, record producer, and ordained minister. He is primarily known as one of the prominent musicians of the one-man-band musical genre. JD Pinkus is an American bassist best known for his work with the American punk band Butthole Surfers from 1985 to 1994 and since the 2009 reunion.
Upon leaving Butthole Surfers, Pinkus worked full-time with the Austin trio Daddy Longhead, which he had assembled during his waning months in the band, and which included longtime Atlanta associate Jimbo Young on guitar and Rey Washam on drums. Daddy Longhead retired after 10 years, leaving Pinkus free to explore other projects. He leaves his bass to play Banjo and Guitar for his solo work.
In 2018, JD Pinkus released a solo album, Keep on the Grass on cassette tape on Danny Barnes Minner Bucket Records and later Vinyl and Compact Disc through Heavy Feather Records. It was recorded entirely on banjo. Pinkus is now releasing his second solo “space grass” banjo album titled “Fungus Shui”.

Spirit of the Peaks Screening and Live Q&A
The Roxy Theater
718 S Higgins, Missoula, Montana
Produced in partnership with Wondercamp and NativesOutdoors, and co-directed by Hunkpapa Lakota skier Connor Ryan, “Spirit of the Peaks” is a film about the struggle for balance between two worlds. Tickets are a suggested $10 donation for law students or $15 for the general public. Tickets are available on Eventbrite here: https://www.eventbrite.com/…/spirit-of-the-peaks…
Skiing in Ute Territory has always raised questions for Connor about being in reciprocity with the land and its people. As a skier who connects with the land through sport, he empathizes with the injustices that have displaced the Utes and the ongoing colonization, erasure, and extraction impacting the Ute people. This story connects conflicted pasts to an awakening in cultural awareness that can create an equitable future for Indigenous people and skiers. Connor’s mission with the film is to do his part in restoring balance with all inhabitants of these mountains by illuminating the Utes’ culture and traditional knowledge that can benefit everyone in the fight to preserve the land and dissipating snowpack.

While inevitably hopeful, the show plays with some themes from the past couple of years: traditions, solidarity, confusion, and the unknown. The work is anchored to the dynamic power of the BBD company with French’s signature choreographic style of virtuosity and playfulness.Cast: Lizzie Archer, Mac Black, Maeve Fahey, Cate Gibbons, Audrey Kurz, Tara McFarland, Grace Nolan, Tiki Preston, Ruby Roberts, Gabi Wilson.

Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives
The Wilma
131 Higgins Avenue, Missoula, Montana
ABOUT MARTY STUART AND HIS FABULOUS SUPERLATIVES
With legends like George Jones, Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard all passed on, country music purists often echo the question Jones himself asked: “Who’s going to fill their shoes?” The answer, in part, is Marty Stuart.
While he’s too gracious to admit it himself, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician is living, breathing country-music history. He’s played alongside the masters, from Cash to Lester Flatt, who discovered him; been a worldwide ambassador for Nashville, Bakersfield and points in between; and safeguarded country’s most valuable traditions and physical artifacts. Including its literal shoes: Stuart counts the brogan of Carter Family patriarch A.P. Carter and an assortment of Cash’s black boots among his vast collection of memorabilia.

Gallery Opening: Visual Feelings, Works by Bill Irvin
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main Street, Missoula, Montana
“When I showed a first painting I was asked what does it mean I could not answer, saying if I had words I would have written a poem or a story
Bill Irvin
It would have been impolite
There are things you see that connect with feelings that have no words
Especially in Montana there are visions that take breath and words away
And stay in special places inside”

Ridgeway + adam + Sarah Frazier
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main Street, Missoula, Montana
$10 To purchase advance tickets visit: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/ridgeway-adam-sarah…/
Ridgeway is a band from Santa Ana California. The band has been growing since 2013 through DIY touring and collaborative efforts. They are currently supporting their 2nd full length effort ‘Marlo’, which packs an emotional punch with combinations of shoegaze, post punk, and modern pop rock.
Sarah Frazier creates soundscapes like the darkest of rural Montana nights when the stars look like diamonds floating on an impossibly deep inkwell. Heavy, graceful, and beautifully ominous.
Adam G. Holden, performing under simply the moniker ‘adam’, makes music that begs to answer the age old question: What’s in a name? Textured arrangements and sometimes autobiographical but always deeply personal lyrics have earned him a spot in the long line of great singer-songwriters who coax music out of the most tender parts of themselves.
