Weekend Picks: Thursday, August 12th thru Sunday, August 15th

Welcome to kickoff of fair season in Western Montana. In Missoula, the Western State Fair is already underway, and runs through Sunday with the new & cool Lords of Dirt motorcycle dirt track race at Missoula County Fairgrounds. Friday night, Sheryl Crow plays a sold-out show at the Kettlehouse Ampitheater, while Guns & Roses lights up Washington Grizzly Stadium – tickets still available. And that’s just scratching the surface!
The MUG is here with all the happenings this mid-August weekend around Missoula, and up the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys. Check out all the area farmers markets with their full variety to choose from; there’s live local music all over the place. Get out and enjoy our area bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. And – floating the river is always a viable option, good for staying cool while the weekend looks to be hot again. Please enjoy safely and responsibly. And definitely wear sunscreen.
Please note that events are subject to cancellation or change at the last minute. Be sure to check the event links to confirm your plans.
“If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Because five minutes at the fair, you’ll be going, ‘You know, we’re alright. We are dang near royalty.”
– Jeff Foxworthy

Miller Campbell
MontaVino Winery
38 1st Avenue E, Suite D. Kalispell, Montana
On Sweet Whiskey, Seattle, WA country artist (you read that right) Miller Campbell has boldly declared her intent to claim a prominent place in the canon of western music. It would serve us all well to take Ms. Campbell at her word. Armed with a voice at turns clear and bright as high mountain air and round, warm, and rough in all the right places, Campbell sings with a natural assuredness usually only found in artists with decades of experience. She gets it honest, but almost never got here at all.
Born into a musical family (Miller is Glen Campbell’s second cousin – grandpa Bud Campbell is his brother), she grew up a classically trained musician steeped in musical theater. A statuesque natural redhead, Campbell soon grew tired of being told she was too striking for the chorus line and started singing at open mic nights while in college. “At this point I didn’t even know my history with Glen and that side of the family. I was drawn to country music as the songwriting style was so similar to musical theater.”

Crystal Lake’s history of murder doesn’t deter counselors from setting up a summer camp in the woodsy area. Superstitious locals warn against it, but the fresh-faced young people — Jack (Kevin Bacon), Alice (Adrienne King), Bill (Harry Crosby), Marcie (Jeannine Taylor) and Ned (Mark Nelson) — pay little heed to the old-timers. Then they find themselves stalked by a brutal killer. As they’re slashed, shot and stabbed, the counselors struggle to stay alive against a merciless opponent.
Join the roster for the first annual Camp Horror Film Festival (August 26 – 28) at our festival hype party! Learn about the festival, buy tickets, buy drinks, eat too much popcorn, win free stuff, have fun, and THEN see a bunch of teenagers get brutally murdered!

8AM 4-H & FFA LIVESTOCK SALE
The 4-H and FFA livestock sale is where 4-H and FFA youth who are participating in market animal projects sell their project animal. The proceeds of each sale go to the individual 4-H and FFA members. Many of these young people put their sale earnings toward college, in addition to using the money to offset the costs of raising their animals and purchase a new market animal for the next year. When you purchase a 4-H or FFA animal at the sale, you are getting a high-quality product. Market animals are raised individually in the best conditions and on the best feed available. Many options are available that do not require you to buy an entire project animal. Click to read more about becoming a buyer or supporter of the livestock sale,
