Weekend Picks: Thursday, August 5th thru Sunday, August 8th
Welcome to “the dog days of summer” in Western Montana. It’s hot, and still smoky. Fortunately there’s no lack of great events indoors and out to choose from. The MUG is here with all the happenings this first weekend of August around Missoula, and up the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys. Check out all the area farmers markets (Flathead cherries and huckleberries), there’s live local music all over the place. The Bob Marshall Music Festival’s happening in Seeley! Get out and enjoy our area bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. And – floating the river is a bit chocolate milky, but still good for staying cool. Please enjoy safely and responsibly. And definitely wear sunscreen.
Please note that events are subject to cancellation or change at the last minute. Be sure to check the event links to confirm your plans.
“The first week of August hangs at the very top of the summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color. Often at night there is lightning, but it quivers all alone. There is no thunder, no relieving rain. These are strange and breathless days, the dog days, when people are led to do things they are sure to be sorry for after.”

Some are for adults, and some are for kids. We wanted to do something fun for the community, and hope you will enjoy the event. Stay tuned through the week as the items to search for will be listed, as well as any updates. Please share, and help us get the word out!

705 S. Higgins, Missoula, Montana
The Roxy and Clyde Coffee are thrilled to present Hip Strip Movie Night, a FREE series of classic and contemporary film screenings, presented outdoors at the Missoula Senior Center. Concessions are available — bring your own chair or rent one from us!
Overly enthusiastic guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) gets thrown out of his bar band and finds himself in desperate need of work. Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates — much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock ‘n’ roll animals, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands.
