Weekend PICKS: Thursday, January 27th thru Sunday, January 30th

Well – we made it to the end of January!
The MUG is here to guide you around town and western Montana for all the good stuff happening this weekend.
We’ve compiled the most comprehensive list of this weekend’s events in Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
We’re counting around 60 live music shows of one kind or another in the area! Plus there are winter markets, the Frosty the Beer Festival in Kalispell, some fantastic film and cinema showings, live stage plays, and just way more than anyone can fit in three days of great reasons to enjoy the weekend.
Check current conditions via the links here for Snowbowl, Lost Trail, Whitefish, Blacktail and Discovery. There are outstanding conditions for XC all around Missoula & Western Montana. FatBike Missoula has been grooming tracks at Twin Creeks. Bitterroot Backcountry Cyclists are reporting good fat biking on the trails around Lake Como and other areas in great shape, too.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, and Phillipsburg.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

This story follows lonely, but optimistic Jean after an unusual encounter leaves her in possession of a recently deceased man’s cell phone. Convinced that she may have found her purpose, Jean takes it upon herself to keep the dead man’s memory alive – a task that will prove more consequential than she could have ever anticipated. Zany and thought-provoking, Dead Man’s Cell Phone is a fresh and humorous examination of life, death, morality and redemption. Dead Man’s Cell Phone is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. https://www.concordtheatricals.com/.

Thursday, January 27 – Sunday, January 30
Reception beginning at 6:00 pm, Curtain at 7:30 pm
Gilligan’s Island, The Musical
Missoula Community Theatre
200 North Adams Street, Missoula, Montana
This family-friendly stage musical is based on the popular 1960s TV show “Gilligan’s Island” created by Sherwood Schwartz. The plot is filled with wacky, slap-stick humor, foiled attempts at being rescued, and the familiar castaways of “Gilligan, the Skipper too, a millionaire and his wife, a movie star, the professor and Mary Ann….” There’s even an encounter with an out-of-this-world alien! Hope and Laurence Juber’s campy, original score includes Ginger’s “Natural Phenomenon”, Thurston and Lovey Howell’s “It’s Good To Be Rich” and Gilligan learning to spell “Hieroglyphics.”
At the helm of the show is Director Rosie Ayers, of Missoula’s “Home Shopping Network Girls” comedy duo and director of MCT’s Leading Ladies in 2019. Rosie shared that her husband Michael “is a grown man who watched every episode of Gilligan’s Island as a child and can still quote the punchlines, sing the lyrics and giggles like an 8-year-old.” On her own thoughts about the production, Ayers looks forward to “directing and experiencing a nostalgic show with our community and enjoying it with our most favorite medicine…laughter.” Gregory Boris will be the show’s Music Director after just completing the same role with MCT’s Sister Amnesia’s Country-Western Nunsense Jamboree.
Stockman Bank; WIPFLI LLP and Garlington, Lohn & Robinson are sponsoring the show, which is a production of the Missoula Community Theatre. MCT requires the wearing of masks for the safety of patrons, volunteers and staff.
Tickets for January 21 – 30 available here.

ABOUT LIQUID STRANGER
In an ever-evolving universe, the art of maintaining complete and total fluidity is the most necessary key for survival. Renowned for his metamorphic capabilities and expertly crafted sonic adventures, Liquid Stranger has mastered his ability to slip in and out of genres all while honing his own personal style. Liquid Stranger has earned his reputation for exuding incommensurable talent and taking audiences on a soul-stirring aural journey of genre-bending beats on the dance floor. He has performed at some of the most innovative events and festivals around the globe. Those who are unfamiliar with his music often tend to categorize him as only a heavy dubstep artist, which is anything but the truth. The most effervescent quality of Liquid Stranger is his ability to shift from genre to genre all while maintaining a sense of smoothness and consistency, which in turn makes him one of the most unpredictable artists to date. In a sense, he has ended genre barriers for the sake of musical storytelling taking whatever sounds he needs to put forward the intended vibe. Liquid Stranger’s omnifarious approach to music has led him to stand out amongst a pack of artists desperately trying to conform to a commercial demand. Proven to be a timeless staple to the world of electronic dance music by bridging the gap between mellow and heavy, what’s next can not be foreseen for this contrastive musician.
