Weekend PICKS: Thursday, January 6th thru Sunday, January 9th

Welcome 2022! Bet you hadn’t even had time yet to think of First Friday – yes, it’s happening. This week it seems like there’s a big uptick in local art exhibits. All those cultural sins you committed over the holidays? Now you have the opportunity to wash ’em all away with some fresh exposure to the latest in local Montana artists.
We’ve compiled the most comprehensive list of this weekend’s events in Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
With this major snow dump we’re having, the local ski areas are gonna be spectacular. Temps this weekend are warming up to perfectly pleasant days outdoors. You can check current conditions via the links here for Snowbowl, Lost Trail, Whitefish, and Discovery. There are outstanding conditions for XC at Lolo Pass ,Pattee Canyon, and Rattlesnake; the UM Golf Course is ready for action. FatBike Missoula has been grooming tracks at Twin Creeks. Bitterroot Backcountry Cyclists are reporting good fat biking on the trails around Lake Como and other areas in great shape, too.
The MUG is here to guide you around town and western Montana for all the good stuff happening this weekend.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead, and the Bitterroot valleys.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

First Friday with Matt Riley
Western Cider
501 N. California Street, Missoula, Montana
Matt Riley received a BFA from the University of Montana in 2011. This work belongs firmly in reductionist, minimalist traditions. If a photograph could be defined only in the simplest terms, how could all extraneous elements be stripped away? These are expressions and exercises of pure form; light, shadow, and composition without any explicit object. These images are also an artifact of their own digital origin. Mass collection allows for reflection on these ‘castoff’ frames more easily than in traditional techniques, when the limitations of film encouraged a more cautious trigger finger. You are left to approach these images with your own preconceptions, without the distractions of symbolic imagery or relatable subject matter. This series owes heavily to the experimental work of Laszlo Maholy-Nagy and the hallucinatory fiction of Philip K. Dick.

adam + Matthew Knight + Maria Zepeda
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main Street, Missoula, Montana
To purchase advance $10 tickets visit: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/adam-matthew-knight…/
Textured arrangements and sometimes autobiographical (but always deeply personal) lyrics have earned ‘adam’ (Adam G. Holden) a spot in the long line of great singer-songwriters who coax music out of the most tender parts of themselves. Heavily inspired by giants like Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith, and Leonard Cohen, ‘adam’ stands on the shoulders of those who came before him.
Maria Zepeda lives to express through creation. Her larger than life presence invites you to take a closer look at the ways we can live in love for ourselves, each other, and our planet. Maria’s sound has been compared to the likes of Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Halsey, Jewel, and Brandi Carlile. Her voice is rich and powerful, with smokey notes of soulful emotion. Her lyrics come from her lived experience and at times, through the channeling of spirit singing through her.
Matthew Knight is a born and raised Missoulian, and has always been taken by music. Since age 5, he has pursued this passion in whichever way he could, starting with piano, then cello, and eventually guitar. He’s excited to be working with drummer Llwyn Clark-Gaynor and bassist Andy Josten to bring his songs to life.
Masks are required for attendees for all Show Room events at this time. Masks may be removed for beverage consumption, but we ask that they please be worn at any time when not actively drinking.
