Weekend PICKS: Thursday, July 14th thru Sunday, July 17th

The weekend is here! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
We’re counting over 85 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
Farmers markets season is in full swing in Western Montana. You’ll find ’em here, and for a complete list of nearly three dozen in the area, check out our Western Montana Farmers Markets story posted recently on The MUG.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.
Do you have a Western Montana event you would like to have included on The MUG? Click HERE to submit your event!

Grant Creek Trail Ride
Women Bike Missoula
XXXs at the North End of Higgins Ave, Missoula, Montana
Most of our rides seem to be on a Wednesday. But please note, this ride is on a Thursday.
We have two distance/speed options for riders this time. And e-bikes are welcome on all portions of this ride.
Option #1 (14.8 miles): For those wanting a longer distance ride and to learn the back way to Grant Creek from downtown, we will meet at and leave from the XXXs at the north end of Higgins Avenue at 5:30 pm so we can join others at the Grant Creek Trailhead at 6:00 pm. Ethel will lead the 4.2 mile ride from the XXXs to the Grant Creek Trailhead and show us the best route to get to North Reserve Street.
Option #2 (6.4 miles): For those wanting a shorter ride only on the Grant Creek Trail, we will meet at Grant Creek Trailhead (by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation parking lot) at 6:00 pm where we will be joined by those who opted for the longer ride.
The Grant Creek Trail is 3.2 miles in length. And the distance from the XXXs to Grant Creek Trail is 4.2 miles. For those starting at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation who are just riding the Grant Creek Trail, the total ride is 6.4 miles. For those starting at the XXXs, the total ride is 14.8 miles.
For those interested in grabbing a bite to eat after the ride, there are several options in the Grant Creek/North Reserve area.

There’s a couple of good options for anyone that would like to do a shorter ride. From the Overlook, skip Steep Curry, and head right down Fenceline. KFGM Summer Series / Sarah Frazier & Coyotes & Shaina Shepherd
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W. Main Street, Missoula, Montana
To purchase advance tickets visit: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/kfgm-summer…/
The KFGM Summer Series brings forth some of the great talent the Missoula music scene has to offer. Each show will showcase two great bands, cross genres, and offer a platform for audience members to discover and engage with some of Missoula’s best artists. KFGM’s desire for this series is to highlight some of their favorite local artists and for Missoula Community Radio’s listeners to tune-in to a true local experience. July’s artists are Sarah Frazier and Coyotes.
Sarah Frazier creates soundscapes like the darkest of rural Montana nights when the stars look like diamonds floating on an impossibly deep inkwell. Heavy, graceful, and beautifully ominous.
Coyotes is the solo electronic music project of composer Bryan Curt Kostors. Performing on analog, digital, vintage, modular, and percussion synthesizers, Kostors creates compelling musical landscapes that are sonically enveloping and epically danceable. Pulling from inspirations as diverse as 90’s techno, 80’s New Wave, orchestral compositions, experimental dance music, and more, Coyotes is an aural exploration without boundaries of style or time.
Known for her pervasive style as front woman to the soul-grunge band BEARAXE, Shaina Shepherd’s instantly-recognizable voice has brought her into various creative spaces: from sharing stages with rock stars like Dave Matthews and Thunderpussy, to performing as a soloist with classical ensembles around the country. Inspired by Nina Simone’s commitment to representing the times with the ivories at her fingertips, Shaina tells heartfelt stories of love, loss & personal power. She describes herself as an “anthem artist”—translating pivotal moments in human history through her unique form of poetry.
