Weekend Picks: Thursday, July 29th thru Sunday, August 1st
Still hot! – maybe a little “not as bad”, but typically our smoky season starts in early August. Fortunately there’s no lack of great events indoors and out to choose from. The MUG is here with all the happenings this last July weekend around Missoula, and up the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys. Check out all the area farmers markets (Flathead cherries and huckleberries), there’s live local music all over the place. Festivals, even, in Hamilton, and Polson! Get out and enjoy our area bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. And – floating the river is always good. Please enjoy safely and responsibly. And definitely wear sunscreen.
Please note that events are subject to cancellation or change at the last minute. Be sure to check the event links to confirm your plans.
“It’s so damn hot…milk was a bad choice.”

Armed with a voice at turns clear and bright as high mountain air and round, warm, and rough in all the right places, Campbell sings with a natural assuredness usually only found in artists with decades of experience. Named the Next Woman of Country Music by CMT in 2018, and one of the top 15 country artists to watch in 2021, she brings a unique edge back into the southern rock scene. From festivals and rodeos, to country bars and honky-tonks, fans are giving themselves over to an act that writes from the heart and sings from the soul. Check out Miller’s latest release here. Masks strongly encouraged for all attendees as campers in attendance are not yet vaccinated. All attendees must enter through the front door on Main Street, and will then be ushered to the elevator and the fourth floor.
Join us for the capstone performance of Yes Fest 2021, with an opening performance by ZACCs Comedy Camp! Yes Fest embraces the idea of ‘yes and’ in theatre by saying yes to children’s imaginations and bringing them to the community via a public stage. Over the course of one week, children participating in Yes Fest write, design, build, and direct a series of short plays. The festival then gives these plays to an acting ensemble made of community adult performers and leaders who act out the plays. Much Ado About Nothing – William Shakespeare
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W. Main Street, Missoula, Montana
$10 per ticket, in advance or at the door.
To purchase tickets visit: https://www.zootownarts.org/shows-events/musicperformance/ From the hilarious creative team behind A Literal Garbage Fire and Sold Out! The Staged Reading: A New Play By Jay Buchanan comes an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s funniest take on Italian romance, Much Ado About Nothing. When a band of soldiers return to Messina from victorious battles, they variously embrace and reject their stirring attractions to the noblewomen of the court of Leonato. Plots to spark and foil newfound love compete with each other as spoken lies give way to hidden truths, and some girl fakes her own death at the suggestion of a friar! That’s never gone poorly in a Shakespeare play! The Zootown Arts Community Center and Literal Garbage Productions proudly present Much Ado About Nothing, performing on July 29, 30, 31. On Saturday, July 31, Missoula’s Community Media Resource will be streaming Much Ado About Nothing on the Zootown Arts YouTube Channel and Facebook, with no admission cost. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. Polly O’Keary and The Rhythm Method
Rustic Hut
5341 US Highway 93 S, Florence, Montana
2021 is a seminal year for Polly O’Keary and the Rhythm Method. This year all three members turn 50, inspiring the name of this, their 6th album. The band used last year’s hiatus to build their strongest album yet. 11 tracks that touch on themes of hard-won wisdom, wry regrets, amused reflection on past foibles, a bit of crowing over having survived it all, and hope that better days still lie ahead. The band takes pride in creative fusions of blues with other genres, and on this all-original collection blends Texas shuffle, swing, rhumba, and hill country blues with Cuban habanera, Motown, funk, R&B, Southern rock, Americana, and even one Bonamassa-style hard rocker.

Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (Paul Gleason). The disparate group includes rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently — and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.
