Weekend PICKS: Thursday, June 16th thru Sunday, June 19th
Who’s had about enough rain for a while? Fortunately it looks like we’re finally gonna see warmer weather and more sun for most of the weekend. Ready, set, go!
The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of this weekend’s events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
Some of the major things happening include the Buffalo Soldiers Iron Riders & Juneteenth Celebration at Historic Museum at Fort Missoula, Indigenous Heritage Celebration with the Missoula Paddleheads at Ogren Park, at least three different Music Festivals, the big Summer Made Fair Missoula, and – Fathers Day!
June is just simply a fantastic time to be outdoors here. Whatever you do, it’ll be spectacular out there. Pay attention to the high running rivers and waters, be aware of your surroundings.
We’re counting well over 90 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options.
Farmers markets season is well underway in Western Montana. Still more are opening this weekend. You’ll find ’em here, we’ve found a few more, and for a complete list of nearly three dozen in the area, check out our Western Montana Farmers Markets story posted recently on The MUG.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Film Screening: “Pietá: Lament at the Edge of the Abyss”
Missoula Art Museum
334 N Pattee St, Missoula, Montana
Free & open to all
Pietá: Lament at the Edge of the Abyss was composed by composer Jerry Mader at the invitation of Peter Koch and Edwin Dobb, cofounders of the EXTRACTION: Art at the Edge of the Abyss.
EXTRACTION was mounted as a national protest movement bearing witness to the environmental devastation caused by open-pit mining, strip mining, and their ultimate impact on the Earth. The EXTRACTION project has produced hundreds of exhibitions and events. (https://www.facebook.com/ExtractionArt/) MAM presented three exhibitions under the umbrella of this project in the summer of 2021.
Pietá premiered on October 2, 2021, in Seattle, and was performed by the Seattle Sound Ensemble, Bobby Collins, director, with Karen Bentley Pollick as violin soloist. It was slated for a reprise on October 9 at the Missoula Art Museum but was unfortunately canceled.
In lieu of that performance, Jerry Mader has produced a 38-minute film containing the basic elements of the concert; a reading of the traditional Sweet Medicine Prophesy by Dr. Richard Littlebear, President of Chief Dull Knife College in Lame Deer, Montana, with Cheyenne Honor Songs by Conrad Fisher, Northern Cheyenne singer, and the recorded video of the Seattle Premiere of Pietá.
Q&A with Jerry Mader and Dr. Richard Littlebear will follow the screening.

Help Yourself / A Live Variety Sketch Comedy Show
The ZACC
216 W Main Street, Missoula, Montana
Created by Casey Chapman & Shelly Howls
$15
Purchase advance tickets at: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/help-yourself-a…/
Help Yourself is a live variety comedy show featuring sketch comedy, standup, and improvisation around the ways we help ourselves and others… and all the ways it can go wrong. If you’ve ever had a therapy session go off the rails, gotten lost in the world of online dating, or decided that your 9-to-5 is soul-crushing, this is the show for you. Help Yourself at your own risk… or don’t.
Each performance is partially improvised, so every night is a once-in-a-lifetime show. This show will feature adult humor, crude language, simulated drug use, and more sexual references than you probably want. Buy your ticket, then go ahead and schedule your next therapy session.
Help Yourself is created by Casey Chapman and Shelly Howls, and produced by Cat in the Wall Productions and the Zootown Arts Community Center. Featuring standup comedy by Andy Nemec and Thomas McClure, and performances from Aaron Juhl, Blake Powell, John Howard, and Jordan Demander.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Food Allergy Research and Education, and Missoula’s own Open Aid Alliance.
