First Friday with Courtney Murphy
Western Cider
501 N. California Street, Missoula, Montana
Courtney first began working with clay while living in Brooklyn, NY. After several years of working for potters around the city, she moved to Portland to study Ceramics at Oregon College of Art & Craft. In 2009 she came to Montana where she completed a two year artist-in-residence at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena. After a short term residency at Red Lodge Clay Center, and a long term residency at the Clay Studio of Missoula, she decided to settle in Missoula and set up a home studio.
Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, and has been featured in books and magazines including American Craft and Ceramics Monthly. In 2011 she was chosen as an emerging artist by Ceramics Monthly. Her designs are influenced by simplified abstractions of nature, children’s artwork, folk art, mid-century modern forms and shapes, as well as patterns and textiles. She is compelled by the variation found in handmade objects and likes the personal connection that they help to create as they leave her studio to become part of somebody’s daily routine.

MCAT Local Live: https://www.mcat.org/watch-now/local-live/
Obviously, this typically hard working band has been hardly working. Except for taking good advantage of forced solitude, to craft a hearty batch of new original songs. Please join us in an intimate evening of heartfelt roots rhythm and blues. Using gritty electric guitar, elastic bass, a chest thumping backbeat, rich soulful vocals punctuated by harmonica, saxophone, piano and organ, Mudslide Charley creates a musical atmosphere that rattles bones and loosens limbs. It may just pull you out of your recliner, to roll up the rug and take a spin across the floor. Mudslide Charley is the twenty-fourth performance in our series — ‘Social Distance Sessions’ — a live-stream production partnership between the ZACC and Missoula’s Community Media Resource (MCAT). Shows will be streamed to the ZACC’s Facebook and YouTube, and to MCAT’s cable channel and Local Live website. Home audience members are asked to donate to the show’s Givebutter ‘virtual tip jar’ if able (use Venmo, Paypal, or a credit/debit card).
