Weekend PICKS: Thursday, November 17th thru Sunday, November 20th

Ok, it’s gonna be cold this weekend – so what?! There are tons of fantastic things to get out and see and do. Bundle up buttercup!
Once again, The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS – Thursday thru Sunday.
Modest Mouse plays a sold-out show Friday night at The Wilma. If you already have tickets, congratulations. If not – we have plenty of other great options for you to choose from.
Washington-Grizzly stadium is quiet this weekend, but it’s the biggest Griz Football game of the year over in Bozeman as the annual Griz vs Cats 121st Brawl of the Wild rivalry game unfolds with kickoff at Noon. Just about every bar in Western Montana will have the game on TV for you to settle in & watch the battle on ESPN’s College GameDay. Pick one.
The Missoula Valley Winter Market’s season is underway – Saturdays near Scheels inside Southgate Mall.
Holiday Bazaars & Markets are well underway, and happening this weekend in Missoula (Saturday & Sunday), Lolo (Saturday), and Kalispell (Friday & Saturday).
Ski season is starting early – Lookout Pass opened last weekend, and Discovery near Anaconda opens Friday. Get your turns in before the crowds show up!
Wanna raid the secondhand stores and thrift shops with a good excuse to get dressed up, sort of? It’s the annual Adult Prom at Lolo Hot Springs Resort on Saturday night, Saturday night.
We’re counting at least 75 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Go for a crisp hike or get in your first XC or downhill ski of the season! Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Montana Natural History Center

Cost: $5/MNHC member, $8/non-member.
You can add an MNHC membership at checkout.
The Pribilof Islands are small volcanic islands in the Bering Sea off Alaska. In spite of their small sizes and remote location, they are a biodiversity hotspot, especially for birds. Erick Greene has been lucky enough to live on the Galapagos Islands for a year studying birds, and last summer he studied birds on the Pribilof Islands. He will share information about the people and natural history of the Pribilof Islands.
Lecturer Erick Greene was a professor in the Division of Biological Sciences and in the Wildlife Biology Program at The University of Montana for over 30 years. He grew up in Quebec, Canada, with twin passions for music and nature. Erick dropped out of high school and lived for a year in the Galapagos Islands, helping out on studies on Darwin’s Finches. He then worked on seabirds 800 miles north of the Arctic Circle with the Canadian Wildlife Service. He returned for undergraduate studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he studied biology, music and mathematics, and then received a PhD from Princeton University.
He was the director of the UM Bird Ecology Lab, and helped with the Montana Osprey Project. He loves sharing information about the natural world, and has received many teaching awards. He has also been a pilot for about 40 years, and is able to use his love of flying in his research on ospreys.

Revival Comedy Night – Annual Sock Drive for the Poverello Center
Zootown Arts Community Center / ZACC
216 W Main, Missoula, Montana
$10
To purchase tickets visit: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/revival-comedy…/
The leaves are falling and the air is crisper – and that means it’s time for Revival Comedy’s biggest show of the year! Each November we gather the best comics in town for a huge celebration, all centered around collecting warm socks for the Poverello Center. Our goal is to make sure that no one at the Pov is worried about their sock supplies running out until spring, and that every person who might not always have a place to go at least has warm toes through Montana’s cold winters. In addition to comedians joking for Good, this is a variety show that will include music and special guests. The price of your ticket goes directly to the Pov (after ZACC’s operational costs), and we heavily encourage people to bring in warm, new socks to donate. We need socks for both men and women, and the warmer the better. If you have other new, useful stuff to donate to the Pov (hats, gloves, toiletries, etc.) please bring those things as well – we love it all!
Learn more about the Poverello Center at https://thepoverellocenter.org/.
*Working Comedians receive a 50% discount on tickets at the door.

Hamilton Players

Tickets $10 reserved seating
Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the beloved animated motion picture. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, this musical family classic is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.
In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the nasty sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome human Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

Mary Kate Teske + Joseph Running Crane + Hermina Jean
Zootown Arts Community Center / ZACC
216 W Main St, Missoula, Montana
$10 // $15 Tour Supporter
Mary Kate Teske is a singing, and guitar pickin’ cowpoke from Eastern Montana. Rural roots have influenced MK to write songs that are reminiscent of traditional folk music.
Blackfeet country does nothing in small measure. Whether it’s the broad, sweeping prairie, the infinite horizons or the monolithic reach of the mountains, Amskapii Piikuni traditional territory refuses to understate itself. So too is the case with Joseph Running Crane’s songwriting. After having spent his formative musical years in second-or-third-hand vans traveling the country playing deafening punk, metal and hardcore, Joseph Running Crane brings similarly confrontational lyrical ideas into his solo work. With a lucid belief in letting the stories tell themselves, Running Crane leaves his songs mostly unadorned, and this austere approach seeks to highlight the interplay between his exhaustively constructed lyrics and the complex and sometimes harsh stories they convey. Imbued with a unique humor and levity, Running Crane’s live show rarely fails to elicit laughter, contemplation, and the dancing spirit, oftentimes from one song to the next.
Hermina Jean grew up in Montana and was raised on a diet of Neil Young and The Breeders. She writes songs about failure, dreams, and confusion. She is currently working on a new album with her band Junior, and trying to write songs that make her feel good.

Miss Massive Snowflake + Worm Womb + False Teeth
Zootown Arts Community Center / ZACC
216 W Main St, Missoula, Montana
$10 // $15 Tour Supporter Ticket
Shane De Leon started Miss Massive Snowflake in 2004 as a solo project. The band plays genre-layering narrative songwriting, indie glam art rock, and stoner noise Americana. De Leon fingerpicks breezy melodies that turn into tumultuous feedback. His words revel in the realness of everyday life. The angst, the small joys, the want. Conner Haman (Hey, ILY) and Isaiah Demontiney will be the rhythm section on this short run of Montana shows. Miss Massive Snowflake has performed over 800 shows in 10 countries and nearly all states, released 6 albums, multiple eps and singles.
Kelsey Star is the front woman of Worm Womb. She grew up in Montana playing rock music with friends and participating in live theatre. She loves performing live, and believes music is medicine for the soul. Kelsey is currently learning music engineering and just released her first (partially self produced) album out of Pyrymyd Music Studios, with the help of another musician and mixing extraordinaire, Angel of Discord. Stream Worm Womb’s album Desert Honey on Spotify NOW and find out more about Kelsey on Instagram @kelseystarart – many thanks, many blessings!
Since 2010 False Teeth has been the pseudonym of audio collage, beats, visual projection, and performance art creative Nora Justice. Exploring themes of nature, death, surrealism, jazz, history, and pop ephemera, False Teeth as a project grows in scope with each release.
