Thanksgiving Weekend PICKS: Thursday, November 25th thru Sunday, November 28th

It’s Thanksgiving! We’d like to let all our readers and fans of The Missoula Underground know how much you are appreciated by spending your time following our little labor of love we have going here. We’re a year and a half in since we switched this thing on, and it’s your support that keeps us rolling as the go-to place to know what’s happening for all the fun stuff in and around Missoula and western Montana. We’re beyond grateful every time you share and mention stuff you saw on The MUG. Thank you!
Besides watching football and binging on Netflix, there are plenty of things happening this weekend to get you out of the house to work off that massive turkey dinner.
Normally Thursday night is the busiest for live local music – except this week, unless you’re up for a bit of karaoke here and there in the evening (and it won’t hurt if you don’t have to go to work in the morning).
Friday and Saturday make up for that with lots of venues hosting live music to dive headlong into the weekend. Use The MUG’s Weekend PICKS to find where & when it’s all happening.
Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is – Shop Local for Small Business Saturday!
While we all know about the container ships waiting off the coast of Long Beach with cheap crap from China, we’re blessed live in a place with no shortage of our own manufacturers, vendors, and retailers who are Montana-local. They need your support to survive, and there’s no better way to spend your money than locally for holiday shopping. Let your money stay right here in Montana where it’s appreciated and well-spent in our community. Downtown Missoula has a bunch happening on Small Business Saturday with many stores offering great sale prices – and free parking!
Christmas Markets & Craft Fairs are well underway; find the most unique and unusual gifts at affordable prices. You’ll usually meet the maker and find out all the interesting details about the treasure you just bought.
There’s live local music at all the regular places all around, all the way through the weekend. And there’s no shortage of really great fine arts events to choose from as well.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. See a comedy show. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
After Thanksgiving is past, it’s not too soon to get your permit & head out to cut your own Christmas tree. Also a good time to take in your skis and boards for a ski tune so you’re well-prepared when Snowbowl, Lost Trail, Discovery, and all our other surrounding ski areas open up for downhill and cross-country fun.
Please note that events are subject to cancellation or change at the last minute. Be sure to check the event links to confirm your plans.

“I come from a DIY and blue-collar background, and I was a soldier. I’ll do the work, all of it. I’ll write, sing, play. I’ll design, make the art. Hell, I’ll mop the floors at the end of the night! I want to be dependable as a songwriter and a musician. God-willing, I’ll be seventy-something years old, still writing, still putting out music.”
This particular songwriter emerged from decade of frustrations. There was a bad, bad woman, a recession, even a war. In the midst of the war, the man said to himself, “I should be writing and playing music. If I get out of here, that’s what I’ll do.”
