Weekend PICKS: Thursday, November 3rd thru Sunday, November 6th

Hello November! Our Autumn’s been great, and it’s time to shift gears to winter mode and all the things we love about this time of year.
Once again, The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS – Thursday thru Sunday.
First Friday is happening in Downtown Missoula with a ton of great arts and music options to sample. Hamilton’s Downtown also has First Friday happening for getting the Bitterroot’s weekend going.
The Wilma will be a busy place with our favorite Montana tribute band Pinky and The Floyd on Friday, and The Wailin’ Jennys will be live at The Wilma on Saturday evening.
The huge annual Used Book Sale is returning to Historic Fort Missoula all weekend – after a couple years without the sale, they have over 60,000 donated books to scoop up for a long winter of reading ahead. The big annual Fall Harvest Bicycle Warehouse Clearance Sale is happening Saturday at Free Cycles Missoula – stop in & check out all the amazingly low prices on used bikes, and take one (or a couple) home.
For the youngsters, the annual Kiddomatic Film Fest is happening all weekend at The Roxy Theater on Missoula’s Hip Strip.
Holiday Markets are already getting underway in Hamilton, Stevensville, Clinton, Missoula, and even out on Finley Point on Flathead Lake.
Snow film showings are happening all around this weekend to get your ski & boarding stoke high, now that the slopes will be opening before we know it.
We’re counting over 70 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Go for a crisp hike or a bike ride! Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare”
Hamilton Middle School
209 S. 5th Street, Hamilton, Montana
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (also known as The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged) is a play written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. It parodies the plays of William Shakespeare with all of them being performed in comically shortened or merged form by only three actors.
Typically, the actors use their real names and play themselves rather than specific characters. The fourth wall is nonexistent in the performance, with the actors speaking directly to the audience during much of the play, and some scenes involve audience participation. The director and stage crew may also be directly involved in the performance and become characters themselves.
The script contains many humorous footnotes on the text that are often not included in the performance. However, improvisation plays an important role and it is normal for the actors to deviate from the script and have spontaneous conversations about the material with each other or the audience. It is also common for them to make references to pop culture or to talk about local people and places in the area where the play is being performed. As a result, performances differ, even with the same cast.

The Last Revel with Way Down North
Great Northern Bar
27 Central Ave, Whitefish, Montana
$10 at the door
After a five year hiatus, the original trio has reunited to produce new music with a revitalized appreciation for camaraderie and creativity. Now living in three different cities across the US, these three independently talented singer-songwriters bring together the sounds of Nashville, Minneapolis and Bozeman to create Front Porch Americana soundscapes that are equally original as they are timeless. Drawing influence from their salt of the earth Midwest ethos the band’s songs so naturally blend the genres of Folk, Old Time String-Band and Indie Rock to create a sound that echoes the current heartbeat of America.
The Last Revel utilizes their multi-instrumental abilities to bring the full spectrum of modern Americana to life with lush arrangements of three-part vocal harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, upright bass, fiddle, and 5-string banjo to consistently support impassioned performances of their honest and heartfelt songwriting.

Hot off the heels off MAITA’s 2020 debut, Best Wishes, named one of the “50 Albums that Define Oregon” (Portland Monthly), MAITA’s sophomore LP, I Just Want To Be Wild For You, digs into the crippling oxymoron of modernity: the constant bombardment of communication paired with utter disconnection. Released February 18th via venerable indie label Kill Rock Stars, I Just Want To Be Wild For You grasps passionately for a world that too often seems at a gauzy distance. Of the new record, Bob Boilen (NPR music) says “She just has this sensitivity to her sound that I really really love.” KEXP calls MAITA, “a master storyteller who can turn intimate moments into quippy, catchy indie-rock songs.
