Weekend PICKS: Thursday, October 20th thru Sunday, October 23rd

Feel that chill in the air? No time for complaining, we got spoiled with an exceptionally nice autumn so far! We’ll take the spoonful of winter coming in, and get a little more fall looking ahead. And there’s so much going on – think of this as “Pre-Halloween Autumn Weekend.” Once again, The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
It’s Rolling Thunder Cyclocross weekend at Big Sky Brewing! Missoula is defined by it’s cycling scene, great beer, and (sometimes crazy) weather – it’s all wrapped up in fantastic bike racing Saturday and Sunday. Bring your cowbell, and come thirsty and rowdy. And bundle up. The wet & snowy weather rolling in is perfect Belgian fall ‘cross conditions! With snow on the horizon (literally), you can get in the mood Friday by hitting the 16th Annual Pray for Snow party / fundraiser for Missoula Avalanche at Caras Park. If you prefer a throttle to go with your 2 wheels, Top Dawg Arenacross is happening Saturday at the Polson Fairgrounds.
Halloween is coming, and there are already some great happenings to get in the mood. There are 2 weekends remaining to visit Field of Screams in Victor to scare the bejeebers out of yourself. (Pro tip: go early, before it gets crowded). Evaro Bar has Pajama Party Karaoke happening Friday night! Glacier Ice Rink at the Missoula Fairgrounds has a family friendly Halloween Costume Ice Skating Party on Sunday at Noon. And – don’t miss going to MCT’s live stage musical production of The Addams Family!
Paul Cauthen is bringing his country-punk swagger to The Wilma on Thursday. The Modern Rock Orchestra, featuring Grant Ferguson, has a performance at the UM Dennison Theater on Saturday evening. James McMurtry is playing Saturday night at the Great Northern Bar up in Whitefish with Neal Elder.
You’ve heard of dueling pianos – well, now we can check out Dueling Guitars with Travis Yost and Dr. Doug on Saturday night at Stave & Hoop Speakeasy! with Our local venues are firing on all cylinders with our favorite local musicians and bands who just happening to be playing for your enjoyment (and a few tips here & there wouldn’t hurt, either). We’re counting over 60 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
Farmers Markets season is winding down in Western Montana. There are only 2 weeks left for the Saturday Missoula Markets; visit them while you can & stock up on all the bounty of farm to your table produce. There are a handful of fall & harvest markets to check out, too.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Go for a crisp hike or a bike ride! Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

The Addams Family at MCT
Missoula Center for the Performing Arts

Lobby opens 1 hour prior to curtain time.
A comic strip by Charles Addams in the late 1930’s about a quirky family with ghoulish humor took on a life of its own in a 1960’s TV series. It eventually made its way to the Broadway stage as a musical comedy which received numerous Tony nominations and other accolades. Gomez and Morticia Addams’ family is the spookiest, kookiest family on the block. Uncle Fester is in love…with the moon. Daughter Wednesday torments her brother Pugsley (literally). When Wednesday falls in love with a bright and pleasant boy from a bright and pleasant family, she invites them to dinner to meet her most… unusual family, prompting Pugsley to plot his revenge. The plan goes awry, nearly tearing the two families apart (figuratively). The result is utter chaos and confusion during a thunderstorm, when hidden family secrets come to light—in the darkness (literally).
