Weekend PICKS: Thursday, September 15th thru Sunday, September 18th
It’s the last weekend of summer! What are you gonna do to squeeze out the last drops of summer goodness? The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
It’s still seriously smoky out, so enjoy the most of the mornings and evenings, and be cautious not to abuse your lungs. We’ve already seen any number of events canceled due to the smoke, so be sure to double-check before you go.
We highly recommend some of the end of summer harvest festivals, including the Fall Festival in Hamilton on Friday & Saturday, Logger Days at the Jack Saloon, Ronan Harvest Festival, Big Arm Blues Festival & BBQ on Saturday. And, the Whitefish Songwriter Festival is already an annual classic event, with shows and gigs happening all weekend.
Farmers Markets season is beginning to wind down in Western Montana. Huckleberries, strawberries and the full late-summer bounty is here, and for a complete list of nearly three dozen in the area, check out our comprehensive Western Montana Farmers Markets story on The MUG.
We’re counting over 75 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Go float! Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

The Whitefish Songwriter Festival is a production of the Rocky Mountain Songwriter Festivals, Inc. (RMSF). The RMSF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to promoting music education in local communities and universities. Jackson Holte & The Highway Patrol
Great Northern Bar
27 Central Ave, Whitefish, Montana
Whitefish Songwriter Fest after party! $5 at the door.
Jackson Holte & The Highway Patrol are a Grammy-eligible rock and roll band from Missoula, MT, formed by several of the town’s greasiest bar-band veterans in 2017. Jackson Holte is a hard-nosed, soft-spoken folk singer who aspires only to possess the cathartic wit of John Prine and the biceps of Kris Kristofferson. The Highway Patrol are Aaron Chiazza on drums, Eric Rudnick on pedal steel, Tyson Gerhardt on guitar, and Marko “The Midnight Shadow” Capoferri on bass; a band hotter than the furnaces of Nebuchadnezzar. They have been called “a pretty rippin’ band” by U.S. Senator Jon Tester, “a cavalcade of horses on the plains of America” by an independent Portuguese music podcast, and “heroes” by the owner of a small Chinese restaurant in Virginia City. Their latest album, Last Rain of the Summer, was released in March 2020.
