Weekend PICKS: Thursday, September 8th thru Sunday, September 11th
What are you doing this full moon weekend? The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS.
The never-ending summer heat is finally in the rearview mirror. It’s still seriously smoky out, so enjoy the most of the mornings and evenings, and be cautious not to abuse your lungs.
We highly recommend checking out MAMA’s Miles of Music along the Milwaukee Road trail near Boone and Crockett Club on Saturday morning; we’ll be there – stop by & say hello to The MUG.
The fall semester is underway at UM, and the second home Griz Football game (vs. South Dakota) is Saturday. Umphrey’s McGee will be at the KettleHouse Amphitheater on Saturday, Dierks Bentley plays the Adams Center on Sunday. The Clark Fork is running a low and slow, but you might still get in a butt-draggin’ river float a this weekend while you still can.
Farmers Markets season is beginning to wind down in Western Montana. Huckleberries, strawberries and the full late-summer bounty is here, and if you look for them – Dixon Melons! You’ll find ’em here, and for a complete list of nearly three dozen in the area, check out our comprehensive Western Montana Farmers Markets story on The MUG.
We’re counting over 80 music shows of one kind or another in the area. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Go float! Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Infinite Ammo + Simp (WA) + But I’m a Cheerleader
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main Street, Missoula, MT
$10 // $15 Tour Supporter Ticket -To purchase tickets visit: https://showroom.zootownarts.org/…/infinite-ammo-simp…/
Infinite Ammo came out of the swamps of Missoula changing the local music scene forever. The sound is ever changing with Keith stepping down from guitar and Brady stepping in. Our newest song SPEEEEED is thrash with doom riffs. We decided we are forever changing our sound whether it’s hardcore punk or grind we want to do something no one does in this ever changing local music scene.
Simp is a hardcore band from Clarkston, WA, that sounds like if Ted Nugent had a child who disowned him.
But I’m a Cheerleader is a band comprised of three nice queers and all of their repressed feelings they sing about. They invite you into all their sweetness and rage expressed through song (if you’re into that kind of thing).

Montana Area Music Association (MAMA) is set to host their Miles of Music event for the third time. Miles of Music will be held at Missoula’s Milwaukee Trail near the Boone and Crockett Club on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event is open to all ages and is free to the public.
MAMA’s annual Miles of Music celebrates Montana’s music scene and provides pillars of support to artists and the community. Musicians are stationed along Missoula’s Milwaukee Trail for the community to enjoy. All are encouraged to stop by, listen to each artist, and connect, support, and advocate for up-and-coming musicians.
“We are so excited to bring this event back to the community and provide livable wages for Montana artists,” said MAMA’s Executive Director Maria Zepeda. “We know how challenging it is to be an artist, and we hope to help by providing some stability for them.”
MAMA’s mission connects and supports up and coming musicians through professional development and promotion while strengthening and engaging the greater Montana music community.
“We encourage Montana artists to stop by and network with us,” said Zepeda. “Our goal is to advocate for you, so if you are an artist that is looking for support, don’t be afraid to talk with us.”

Night Blooming Jasmine is a string jazz collective based in Missoula, Montana since 2016. Drawing inspiration from the sound of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s Hot Club quintet, NBJ features the angelic voice of Whitni Kent, Geoffrey Taylor’s violin, John Rosett’s mandolin, and Jon Schick’s slick six-string guitar. John Sporman and Jasper lay down la pomp with guitar and double bass. NBJ has been featured at the Big Sky Django Jazz Festival and the Northwest Folklife Festival.
The Dewdroppers is a dynamic jazz trio from hailing Idaho Falls, ID. Featuring vocalist Katie Engstrom, guitarist Freddy Gildersleeve, and bassist Alex Holloway, the Dewdroppers craft a sophisticated sound both familiar and fresh.
