Our brew house was originally in many different pieces from all over Montana. We have spent the past 5 years building it piece by piece as we could afford to do so. We currently have a 4 barrel system and our brew unit allows us to brew 2 small batch varieties or we can brew a larger batch. This system allows us to get creative while keeping our freshness up. We source as many ingredients from Montana and Sanders County as we can.
Welcome to Limberlost Brewing Company! We’re a family owned small-town, nanobrewery located in beautiful, downtown Thompson Falls, Montana.
We specialize in brewing unique, fresh NW style ales with our roots in the rivers, forests and mountains of Sanders County, Montana.
Limberlost began almost 20 years ago when two kids first fell in love with each other, but then fell in love with craft beer. We were fortunate to be raised in rural Pennsylvania (PA, for those who get it) and to have the opportunity to skip the “Bud Light” phase and head right into the good stuff. We were spoiled in the early 2000’s with quality breweries such as Spragues Brew Works, North Country, Blue Canoe, Ellicottville Brewing at Fredonia, Bull Frog, and Selinsgrove Breweries, to name a few. This was back in the time where breweries and the brewery industry were much simpler then they were now.
We’ve been fortunate to experience hundreds of breweries all over the US and Canada. When the time came about 12 years ago to start working on our brewery name and character, we stumbled upon a campground in Central Oregon on McKenzie Pass. This is where Limberlost truly began. The name comes from several urban legends involving a man named, “Limber Jim” who got lost for many years in an Indiana swamp looking for his long lost sheep. After coming out looking a little rough around the edges, the swamp was nicknamed, “Limberlost”. So, after 5.5 years of working our way out of building and planning, Limberlost has made it out of the swamp and we hope you will join us, “out on a limb”.
Our tap room is like taking a trip back into “old school” Sanders County. Thompson Falls, Montana is a logging town and we wanted to capture that in our tap room. We have a lot of historic pieces in our tap room from in and around Sanders County. The area is home to endless amounts of outdoor recreation and we also wanted to tie that in to the decor.
The front of our tap room has an amazing mural tying the family friendly front part together with the more rustic tap room. Our tap room has the feel of ‘drinking beer in your buddies garage’ and showcases lots of wildlife and recreation pieces. Our tap room is built to be family friendly as we have a front section for families and people who may want to hang out and play a game, socialize or to just enjoy a quality, local made craft beer.
Our business is only as strong as the community that supports us. Being involved in our community and strengthening our small town way of life is fundamental to Limberlost’s mission. There will be opportunities for local non-profits to team up with us in the future to bring awareness and value to their missions. We love Sanders County so much we coined our phrase…”#35 til’ we die”.
