Pet Fest moves to virtual online weekend August 21-23
For 2020, Missoula’s annual Pet Fest will celebrate its 15th year with a covid-free virtual online event with extended days from August 21st through 23rd. The event will feature online adoptions from shelters and rescues, shopping with local pet related businesses and a first time $500 cash grand prize for best contest video.
Pet Fest is well known as a day filled with family oriented education, contests, shopping and cuddly pet adoptions. This August, the sound of barking dogs will be floating out of your laptop speakers, instead of Caras Park, at the virtual version of Montana’s largest adoption event and pet festival.
Event organizers are focusing on creating an online experience that preserves the spirit of Pet Fest, while promoting community partners. Co-owner of Marketplace Media and Events, Megan Pfaff, says, “We feel it is the ethical and the responsible choice to make. It was a hard decision to cancel our in-person events this year, but we hold ourselves and our events to the highest safety standards and take our responsibility to our community very seriously.”
Visitors to the virtual event are encouraged to enter video contests with the traditional prizes to be won, the coveted Olympic Medals plus prizes from local businesses. But this year there is an additional Grand Prize of $500 for the video with the most overall votes. The Best Dressed, Best Frisbee Catch, Best Obedience Demo, Best Trick, Funniest Pets and Unusual Pet categories are now open at www.PetFest.net. Voting begins at 7 am on Friday, August 21st and ends at 10 pm on Sunday, August 23rd with winners announced on Monday, August 24th.
Also featured is a virtual online shopping area, where visitors can learn more about local community partners offering services for people and pets, as well as shelters and pet rescues. The new Virtual Pet Fest allows more shelters to participate without causing a burden on the shelters and rescues to bring live animals with smaller staff this year due to COVID-19.
“Our goal remains to share the mission of responsible pet ownership.” says co-owner, Linda Baumann. “Animal shelters are faced with an incredible burden of dogs and cats that they have difficulties finding homes for. Having pets spayed and neutered and adopting from shelters and rescues ensures that pet owners will not be adding to the problem.”
