Weekend PICKS: Thursday, December 18th thru Sunday, December 21st
Everything stops for a few hours Saturday afternoon when UM Griz Football meets MSU to decide which team goes to Nashville for the FCS Championship. What else is going on this winter solstice weekend? Plenty! Christmas markets and holiday events, lots of live local music, outdoor activities, skiing – The MUG is here with all the pre-Christmas December Weekend PICKS for Missoula and Western Montana!
Cliff’s Notes on Snow Conditions:
The rain has wreaked havoc with some of the ski resorts that opened last weekend. In a nutshell,
Snowbowl is open this Friday thru Sunday with limited chairs – be sure to look into conditions before going. Lost Trail is open daily for the holiday season thru January 5. Ski Discovery is 20% open and has been getting fresh snow all week, shooting to be open 7 days starting 12/20. Blacktail Mountain had a significant amount of downed trees and powerlines from the recent wind storms – not yet open, stay tuned. Whitefish Mountain Resort is open, a bit crusty in spots, looking more new snow through this weekend. Lookout Pass got hammered from the storm, but with their power and internet restored, will re-open at 9:00 am Sunday. Most of the area XC trails have been early-rolled and groomed; but the recent weather hasn’t done them any favors – not great at the moment. Many have an alarming amount of treefall that’s gonna take a while to clean up. Good news: Lolo pass got 14″ new snow on Friday 12/19, and will be updating grooming & trail conditions. Check The MUG’s comprehensive Western Montana Snow Conditions page for all the current snow conditions and road conditions, all in one place for our area hills and resorts.
