“Celebrating Coyote” Native Sculpture Installation at Missoula Art Museum 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 28

October 28, 2025 @ 4:30 pm 6:30 pm

Join Missoula Art Museum for a special evening celebrating the installation of Es wičms č̓ es mlk̓ʷmulexʷ t snč̓l̓ep – Coyote is Seeing All of the Land, a monumental 20-foot steel sculpture created by renowned artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (1940-2025, Citizen of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation) in collaboration with her son Neal Ambrose Smith (Salish descendant).

Realized in the final months of Quick-to-See Smith’s life, this visionary work fulfills her long-held dream to create a sculpture for Missoula’s Art Park. The sculpture was fabricated locally by Wolf Magritte and stands as a bold, playful, and powerful presence. This powerful artwork reflects Quick-to-See Smith’s lifelong mission to amplify Indigenous voices and confront historical injustices.

Set against the colonial façade of the old Carnegie Library building, the sculpture is a strong declaration of ongoing Séliš presence.

MAM is honored to see this visionary project come to life, and to carry her work forward with her blessing.

We invite the community to join Neal Ambrose Smith in celebrating Quick-to-See Smith’s lifelong legacy and the arrival of this landmark public artwork.

A brief program of remarks will begin at 5:15 pm, and is free and open to the public.
