Bud Vase by Heather Lepp
The Clay Studio in Missoula hosts a new art exhibit of Heather Lepp’sNorth Countryopening 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on First Friday, August 7

August 7 @ 5:00 pm 8:00 pm

North Country features functional ceramic vessels made by Heather Lepp rooted in both beauty and practicality.

Each vessel begins with the language of the landscape and the weathered imprint of time.

Heather trims every piece by hand using homemade tools that create the appearance of being hand-hewn.

Layered slips break over these carved surfaces, and atmospheric firing produces finishes that feel softened by time—surfaces that appear worn, as though they have been cherished through years of use.

The forms remain simple and functional, allowing the tactile qualities of the clay and the experience of use to take precedence.

Heather Lepp is an artist and educator originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

She received her BFA from the University of Manitoba in 2016, and her MFA from West Virginia University in 2024.

In addition to formal education, she apprenticed with four professional potters from 2016-2020.

In 2019 she was an artist in residence at Medalta, and in 2023 she was a summer resident at the Red Lodge Clay Center.

She was awarded the Marilyn Levitt Prize in Functional Ceramics from the Manitoba Arts Council.

She has taught at numerous art centers and exhibited her work across Canada and the United States.
