Road to the Buffalo Trail Ride with Women Bike Missoula

Meet up with Women Bike Missoula at 9:00 am Saturday, September 12 at the Milltown State Park Confluence Area (Black Bridge) to carpool out to the Whitaker Bridge on Johnsrud Park Road for the Road to the Buffalo Trail Ride

September 12 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

We will meet at the Milltown State Park Confluence Area (Black Bridge), E of Hwy. 200 and the Milltown Town Pump Travel Plaza at 9:00 am to carpool to the parking area NE of the Whitaker Bridge on Johnsrud Park Rd, where the ride will begin and end.

Indigenous people travelled the trail both directions to reach the buffalo hunting grounds, fish and other resources. Today, BLM manages this land of the Milwaukee RR’s old Big Blackfoot Railway grade along the Blackfoot River. The rails and ties have been removed, although some sections have rather sharp ballast rock.

We will follow the old grade north and west of the bridge for a 10-11 mile, relatively flat, out-and-back ride to enjoy the quiet and solitude of the river. WIDE TIRES are suggested.

eBbikes are allowed on this ride.

Option of lunch at the River City Grill after the ride.

All levels of riders and bikes, including e-bikes, are welcome.

As always, helmets are strongly suggested and it’s good to have tools and an extra innertube just in case.
