Torrents First Friday Art Exhibit Opening: a Handful of Earth at Confluence Center

April 3 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The Confluence Center (Western Montana’s Home for Nonprofit Events) art program Torrents is thrilled to present a magical evening of art, music, and community! For the month of April we are proud to present the special group exhibit “A Handful of Earth” by Montana Indigenous artists.
“Hold on to what is good, even if it is a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe, even if it is a tree which stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do, even if it is a long way from here. Hold on to life, even when it is easier letting go. Hold on to my hand, even when I have gone away from you.” – Traditional Pueblo Blessing
Featuring work by Monica Gilles-BringsYellow, Marita Growing Thunder, Faith Price, Tasheena Wolfchief, Alishon Kelly, and the traveling exhibition “Indian Country In A Glimpse” by photographers from the Flathead Nation (Amaru Bennet, Jason Songers, Katie Medicine Bull, Sara Scott,Ricardo Costilla, Kresta Wickum) each artist brings their own vision of the joys and beauties of their everyday existence. From documenting the beautiful land we live on and must preserve, to ruminations on family and ancestry, to capturing day to day life with the people around us, this exhibit is full of beauty and power, inviting the viewer to find peace in an ever-challenging world.
Reception will be First Friday, April 3, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Confluence Center.
Also featuring live music by music duo Mad Sea!
“A Handful of Earth” will remain on display through Final Friday, April 24, where we will host a Closing Reception from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Handful of Earth can be seen by appointment through the Confluence Center: 406-926-6526.
