St. Patrick’s Weekend PICKS: Thursday, March 13th thru Sunday, March 16th
It’s St. Patty’s Day weekend, and there’s more going on than you can shake a leprechaun at – choose wisely, and brush up on your best Irish toasts! Check out the choices for your Western Montana shenanigans – all right here with The Missoula Underground’s St. Patrick’s Weekend PICKS!
Of course, Monday (March 17) is the real St. Patrick’s Day. But most of the celebrations and festivities will be happening throughout this weekend ahead of the date. We’re here to help!
Don’t miss the rare full lunar eclipse that’ll be visible from before Midnight Thursday into very early Friday, if there’s enough break in the cloud cover. Here’s a link to details and times, including a clear view from space if our skies aren’t clear.
Can you believe this is the last weekend of winter? While the valleys have been warm, the snow’s still excellent up high. All the local ski resorts are open, with more fresh recent snow – plenty of powder! All are grooming and every place’s lifts are fully open. Get it while it’s still good. Lolo Pass Visitors Center and Chief Joseph are still recently-groomed, and several areas in the Flathead have excellent trails for XC skiing. MTB Missoula has been winter-grooming trails at Marshall Mountain Park for fat bikes, courtesy of Fat Bike Missoula, but the warmer weather has melted much of the snow (go early in the day). Pull up and bookmark The MUG’s Western Montana Snow Conditions – all in one place to double-check your destinations to make your plans.
We have around 60 live music events listed for the weekend – plan your indoor sports accordingly.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of St. Patty’s activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new winter local brew – or have at least one green beer! Support our local artists and vendors at the area seasonal markets. Take the family for a brisk outdoor hike. Get out for some prime skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

A famous Irish toast:
Here’s to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking.
If you cheat, may you cheat death.
If you steal, may you steal a woman’s heart.
And if you fight, may you fight for a brother.
And if you drink, may you drink with me.
