Weekend PICKS: Thursday, April 13th thru Sunday, April 16th

What was that 80 degree day last week? And then back to late winter? Nice, Montana. This weekend looks to gradually warm up and get a little more pleasant each day – t-shirts and flip-flops by Sunday?
The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
There are more than 80 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend…we’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of springtime weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people. Take the family for a weekend hike, or get the bikes out for an early spring ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

“Those who died yesterday had plans for this morning. Those who died this morning had plans for tonight. Don’t take life for granted.
In the blink of an eye, everything can change. So forgive often and love with all your heart. You may never know when you may not have that chance again in life.”
– John English

Third Ear & ZDK Productions Present ‘Sports of Nature’ A New Play by Shaun Gant
Zootown Art Community Center
216 W. Main Street, Missoula, Montana
$20 // $15 Students & Seniors
Sports of Nature takes a humorous look at the serious subjects of AI, human obsolescence, and the pending hybridization of humans and computers. You know, “the chip” we’re all about to have implanted in our brains! The characters, two cellphones, an iPod, a flip phone, and a human being set up some silly fun, but the play definitely raises ethical questions about how we deal with technology in our lives.

Men on Boats at Masquer Theatre
UM School of Theatre & Dance
32 Campus Drive, Missoula, Montana
$15.50 Tickets / $7.50 for Seniors (60+) and Youth (12 & Under)
The University of Montana School of Theatre and Dance presents ‘Men on Boats’ April 6-9 and April 13-16 in the Masquer Theatre of the PAR/TV Center on the UM Campus.
Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. This is the true(ish) story of the daring 1869 expedition to map the Colorado River, as envisioned by playwright Jaclyn Backhaus.
Join this ragtag group of adventurers as they face perilous rapids, impossible waterfalls, and sure starvation … all within the awe-inspiring majesty of the Grand Canyon. Prepare to be thrilled by the unfathomable (and often foolish) courage of John Wesley Powell and his team of volunteers, even as we ask questions about how this story from American history is told.

Martin Gerschwitz of “Iron Butterfly”
Ten Spoon Vineyard + Winery
4175 Rattlesnake Drive, Missoula, Montana
$10 Cover for music
Martin “Martino” Gerschwitz has been playing/singing with “Iron Butterfly” since 2005 and he was formerly with Eric Burdon & The Animals, Meat Loaf, Lita Ford & Walter Trout.
After more than 36 years of touring all over the world (4 continents, 37 countries, 49 american states) with acts like “Lita Ford” (1987-1989), “Meat Loaf”(1989/90), “Vanilla Fudge” (1991),“Walter Trout band” (1993 – 1998), “Eric Burdon & The Animals” (1998 – 2005), and also since 2005 being a member of and touring with “Iron Butterfly” (of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” fame) as their keyboard player and lead singer, Martin Gerschwitz simultaneously started a solo career back in November of 2003 as well.
By now he has toured numerous times SOLO all over CA, CO, OR, ID, IL, IN, MT, and WA state, he also goes twice a year to Germany, sometimes even playing in Holland, Belgium, Italy, and Slovakia, too … and Martin also started adding the violin to his shows.
Over the last 13 years now, Martin Gerschwitz has recorded 7 CD’s with his original music, 2 of which (with his full band called “Martin Gerschwitz & friends”) are more rock based and also with vocals, while the other ones feature his very unique style of instrumental semi-classical songs, reminding you of some sort of soundtracks … back in 2005 he also produced a “LIVE – DVD from Frankfurt/Germany” with his own band, a very cool DVD indeed.
At his live-shows, Martin Gerschwitz plays a cool mixture of his own music, but also pays tribute to pretty much all the bands he played with.
As of 2016, Martin Gerschwitz has also released his first book called “I only look loud”, a very informative and feel good, yet funny book indeed.
