Mid-December? Friday the 13th, a full moon on Sunday, and less than 2 weeks ’til Christmas. We’re not skeered! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
ALL the local ski resorts are open this weekend, including Snowbowl and Blacktail (both opening Friday). The rest have already been variously open the past couple weeks (Discovery, Lost Trail, Whitefish), and are grooming and adding open lifts. Lolo Pass Visitors Center has been grooming to get ready for their Full Moon XC Ski Friday evening, and Chief Joseph will see the Rust Buster 10K Skate Classic opening things up Saturday morning. There are numerous holiday craft fairs all over this weekend, including the Indigenous Made Holiday Market on Saturday at the UM Payne Family Native American Center, and “the big one” – the Missoula Holiday MADE Fair at the UM Adams Center on Sunday. Now that Christmas is getting close, it’s time to bust out the gift shopping list and make those strategic purchases, ideally from local vendors that work so hard to deliver just the right Montana-made gifts for our loved ones.
In-between, there are tons of great holiday-flavored music and entertainment options – like the Ronan Chamber Parade of Lights, the Yule Lighted Christmas Parade in Philipsburg; , the Downtown Whitefish Christmas Stroll on Friday night; Draught Works’ annual Christmas Steamer on Saturday; and several stage productions of classics like The Nutcracker, White Christmas, A Christmas Carol, and A Christmas Story.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of December weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Whitefish and Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out & enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – they need your business! Try a new seasonal local brew! Support our local artists and vendors at the area seasonal markets. Take the family for a brisk outdoor hike. Get out for some early season skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
