Weekend PICKS: Thursday, January 12th thru Sunday, January 15th
Hey, it’s a Friday the 13th weekend, and once again, The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own lucky Weekend PICKS – Thursday thru Sunday!
With winter in full swing, all the local ski resorts have settled into the season – the crowds are gone, and the daily temperatures and conditions are just about perfect. Many of the local cross-country and fat biking hotspots are being groomed and skiied.
There are more than 75 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Take the family for a crisp hike or some amazing skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather and the holiday. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Richie Reinholdt picked up the guitar at age 11 and was soon playing in local bands through junior high and high school. After his father passed away in 1975, Richie moved to South Lake Tahoe to be near his Mother. While there, he met and joined The Live Wire Choir and toured the northwest for 4 years in a green, 1945 Flexible bus. They were signed to a one-album deal with Helios Records, based in Missoula, Montana and recorded the “Blue” album.
When L.W.C. disbanded in 1979, Richie left California and moved to Missoula. Richie toured with local bands such as “The Skanksters” (1986-1988), The Blazers”(1989-1991),”The Dreadbeats”(1991-1993) and was lucky enough to tour the beautiful Adariatic countries of Slovenia, Italy and Austria of Southern Central Europe with “The Psyclones” (1993) “The Shadows” (1994) “The Wolfrats (1995) and “The Sundogz” (1996).

Rob Travolta is the ideal soundtrack for road trips through space and time. Drummer / beat producer Cole Bronson creates dynamic shifts within bassist Rob Cave’s bass lines. Fresh from releasing their new record “Landscapes and Soundscapes” Rob Travolta’s aim is to create thought provoking / heart-felt compositions that keep you on your toes.
Panic Boner is Missoula’s premier kamikaze cowboy noise project founded by Dusty Shriver. Influences include racketcore and hard glamgaze. Past collaborators who perform live with Panic Boner include members of PowerPlant, Thee Noise Complaints, and Supersport. Panic Boner’s current line-up is a self-induced improvisational duo – with local painter and main SQUISH head honcho Tricia Opstad who currently performs with stompgrind and yelps – and Dusty, who explores drums, percussion under the influence of psycho magic. They have virtually no entertainment value and are here for anyone who loves the vibe in vibe out experience.
Scuba Steve & the Sharks rode a tidal sound wave over the prairie all the way from Billings just to fill your ears with joy.

Sarah Frazier:
Sarah Frazier is an Electronic/Pop artist from Montana. She dabbles in the realms of synthesizers.
Monte Jenkins:
Jenkins’s soulful command of acoustic guitar, an emotive blend of country and delicate folk, has already made him one of the most celebrated singer-songwriters in Missoula, Montana. Coming from a background in chorale performance, his voice channels the tender vulnerability of Elliot Smith while simultaneously evoking the rustic gravitas of Amos Lee.

If Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor and John Prine were joined together in some bizarre musical cloning experiment, the outcome would be John Dunnigan. This “offbeat” musician and entertainer took the backroads to Montana over three decades ago and never left (he’s no fool). Today, he performs throughout Montana and the Northwest at bierstubes, corporate events, weddings, schools, fairs and festive brouhahas of every conceivable kind. His original, often hilarious songs make you think, laugh, sing along and raise your glass in a toast to life. In short, he can put a smile on your face.

Archertown opens for Jamie Wyman Band
The Remington Bar
130 Central Avenue, Whitefish, Montana
Jamie Wyman Band delivers a unique blend of heavy folk rock that is both anthemic and intimately focused on the importance of each lyric. Their music recreates the qualities of unconditional love: it tells all the truths, sees you for who you really are, and brings you through the dark back into the light where hope reins. The music soothes in times of inner conflict and unites in times of global conflict. This is not fast food pop music, it speaks to your authentic emotions and challenges us all to build a better version of ourselves and humanity. You can listen, learn more, and join their email list at www.jamiewymanband.com
Archertown is a local country music trio that plays original, acoustic songs. Their music has been featured on numerous television shows and their latest EP “American Dreamers” is available now on all streaming platforms. You can see them on stage at 2023’s Country Fest in Cadott, WI and Under The Big Sky Music Festival in Whitefish, MT. www.archertownmusic.com
