Weekend PICKS: Thursday, January 19th thru Sunday, January 22nd
Three weeks into January, and there’s just not much happening – except for the tons of events you’ll find about right here on The Missoula Underground! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS – Thursday thru Sunday! This weekend marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year / Year of the Rabbit!
With winter in full swing, all the local ski resorts have settled into the season – the crowds are gone, and the daily temperatures and conditions are just about perfect. This weekend’s weather is about ideal for the snow. Many of the local cross-country and fat biking hotspots are being groomed and skiied.
There are more than 75 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend. We’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Take the family for a crisp hike or some amazing skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Bluest w/ Violet Danger, Dylan Running Crane, & Worm Womb
Zootown Arts Community Center / ZACC
216 W Main St, Missoula, Montana
Choose Your Ticket Price ($10-$15 Artist Supporter)
Bluest is an indie rock band out of Missoula MT, orchestrated by the longings and hauntings of Noelle Huser. Her songs are chalked full of early adolescent nostalgia and sweetness, soured by the biting existential dread of figuring out who you are in it all. With pleas of empathetic anger a la diary-scrawled lyrics, she pays homage to her 90s/00s angst pop and country influences Alanis Moirissete and Sheryl Crow. Bluest’s chilling debut album Cold Sweat, sifts through dreams and nightmares to find solace in serenading ghosts. It is emboldened with a hunger to return from dissociation back into the body, finding oneself in the present, feet on the ground, blood boiling, head in the clouds and heart on the sleeve. Cold Sweat will be released in January 2023 through Anything Bagel.
Violet Danger’s music is self-described as kinda pop, country, and rock.
Dylan Running Crane is a singer-songwriter from Browning, Montana – a place that remains the subject of most of her work. Her vibe is country meets rez-folk meets tender and silly.
Kelsey Star is the front woman of Worm Womb. She grew up in Montana playing rock music with friends and participating in live theatre. She loves performing live, and believes music is medicine for the soul. Kelsey is currently learning music engineering and just released her first (partially self produced) album out of Pyrymyd Music Studios, with the help of another musician and mixing extraordinaire, Angel of Discord. Stream Worm Womb’s album Desert Honey on Spotify NOW and find out more about Kelsey on Instagram @kelseystarart – many thanks, many blessings!
