Weekend PICKS: Thursday, March 9th thru Sunday, March 12th
Ready to use that extra hour this weekend?! The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS – Thursday thru Sunday!
With spring officially still a week away – we’re calling it now; it’s time for spring skiing. Check ahead for the local snow reports, and go! Many of the local cross-country and fat biking hotspots are being groomed and skiied. Get out and shred that gnar!
We’re still a week away from St. Patrick’s Day – but there are a surprising number of St. Paddy’s themed events happening this weekend to get a head start on the Irish shenanigans.
There are over 85 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend. We’ve got options! If you’re making Sunday plans, don’t forget to “Spring Forward” – set your clocks an hour ahead Saturday night / Sunday morning.
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Support our local farmers and crafts people. Take the family for a crisp hike or some great spring skiing. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

The School of Theatre and Dance is proud to present ‘Pride and Prejudice’ March 2-12 in the Montana Theatre of the PAR/TV Center on campus. The play is written by Kate Hamill, adapted from the 1813 novel. Revered author Jane Austen defined her iconic novel as “light and bright and sparkling,” which perfectly describes this charming, ironic 2017 stage adaptation. The renowned Bennet sisters and their suitors—suitable and unsuitable alike—are brought to life in inventive, winsome ways that will surprise audiences familiar with the novel’s twists and delight those for whom the madcap matchmaking is brand-new.

Based on the award winning 1992 novella by Robert James Waller with score and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown of The Last Five Years and Parade, The Bridges of Madison County follows the story of Italian-American Francesca Johnson, an immigrant turned heartland housewife, whose chance meeting with Robert Kincaid, a National Geographic photographer, changes both of their lives forever.
The next four days become a whirlwind of romance which elicits questions in both lovers about the roads we travel and the bridges we dare to cross. At times heartbreaking yet inspiring, humorous, and beautiful, it asks the question…” what if?”

Rob Travolta + Panic Boner + Scuba Steve & the Sharks
Zootown Arts Community Center / ZACC
216 W Main St, Missoula, Montana
$10 // $15 Artist Supporter Ticket
Rob Travolta is the ideal soundtrack for road trips through space and time. Drummer / beat producer Cole Bronson creates dynamic shifts within bassist Rob Cave’s bass lines. Fresh from releasing their new record “Landscapes and Soundscapes” Rob Travolta’s aim is to create thought provoking / heart-felt compositions that keep you on your toes.
Panic Boner is Missoula’s premier kamikaze cowboy noise project founded by Dusty Shriver. Influences include racketcore and hard glamgaze. Past collaborators who perform live with Panic Boner include members of PowerPlant, Thee Noise Complaints, and Supersport. Panic Boner’s current line-up is a self-induced improvisational duo – with local painter and main SQUISH head honcho Tricia Opstad who currently performs with stompgrind and yelps – and Dusty, who explores drums, percussion under the influence of psycho magic. They have virtually no entertainment value and are here for anyone who loves the vibe in vibe out experience.
Scuba Steve & the Sharks rode a tidal sound wave over the prairie all the way from Billings just to fill your ears with joy.

Jay Alm plays a scathing, soulful blend of Acoustic Alternative Psychedelia and Rootsy, Lyrical Meanderings. Expect 6 and 12 string guitar, the occasional mandolin, a capella audio poetry, and intimate scratch-born vocals. Based out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Jay radiates a poignant, playful take in his quasi-alternative folk-isms and a head-in-the-clouds-approach to biting acoustic rock. After several years of D.I.Y. touring throughout North America, from the Carolinas to Alaska, Jay’s road-inspired sound should appeal to singer songwriter, indie-folk, blues, and alt-rock fans alike.

“Saving for the Day” film World Premiere
The Wilma
131 Higgins Avenue, Missoula, Montana
$15 Advance Tickets + applicable fees
Saving For The Day is a passion project for Writer, Director and Producer John D. Nilles, who also founded With a Cause Productions and Shoot Montana. The film took over a
decade to complete and is truly a Montana-made film which took over 8,000 hours of time to
complete. “My love for Montana and movies was a guiding light as I worked on ‘Saving For The
Day’,” said Nilles.
This film is a “love letter to Western Montana,” while also paying homage to the films that
influenced Nilles when growing up and is the culmination of many, many talented and dedicated
Montanans coming together to create movie magic.
“It was also a way to help build Montana’s film industry from the ground up. Over 400 people of all ages learned how to make movies in front of and behind the camera, and some of that work has led to other opportunities.”
Saving for the Day is a feature-length, family-friendly, Made in Montana movie with action, adventure, romance, and wonder.
Joe Bell (Andy ShirtIff) is an average everyday man who watches life go by as he saves for the day when his real life will begin. Joe is given a chest filled with treasure by a cryptic, old wise man. But to open it, Joe must go on the adventure of a lifetime. He is joined in his quest by Abbey (Lindsey Zachariasen) a driven and savvy archeologist whom he sees as the key to opening the treasure, but does he pursue her for love or for the treasure? Saving for The Day is an ambitious Made in Montana multi-genre film, unlike any action adventure you’ve ever seen.
Over 400 Montanans worked on this grassroots project of passion for 12 years, some have gone on to work on the highly successful Yellowstone, and star in major motion pictures. This highly entertaining micro-budget epic is a love letter to Missoula with nods to movies we all loved as kids.
Click the link for tickets and support local art & artists by dressing up in your nicest premiere ensemble and walking the red carpet. Professional photographers will be documenting the event.
After the film, join us for a Q&A.
Saving For The Day is a movie about Montanans, made by Montanans, & filmed in Montana.

Lindzy Neilson
Perfect Shot Tavern
218 Main St, Polson, Montana
Lindzy Neilson is an Americana singer/songwriter currently living in Anaconda, MT. Born with a traveling soul in Clear Lake, CA, her love for music started early listening to her dad play guitar. When she was 12 years old she moved to Montana, spending most of her time on her grandparents’ cattle ranch where her love of storytelling grew. Soon after graduating from Big Sky High School in Missoula, her dreams of horses led her to college in Powell, Wyoming and later to a cutting horse ranch in Colorado. While in Colorado she joined the US Army. After a deployment to Iraq and her enlistment was up, she found herself back at a horse stable in Colorado. A few months later she headed to Texas where she trained Border Patrol horses. When the contract was up, she was able to find work at a local live music venue where the passion of live music was built. Few more odd jobs and she was back in Montana. Not long after arriving health issues forced major life changes and music became more of an every day occurrence. During this down time she learned to play guitar. Now she uses music to share stories of her travels and life experiences. Her live acoustic shows are a blend of 70’s to current pop and country covers as well as some original music.

Daniel Adam Maltz Fortepiano Concert
Daly Mansion
251 Eastside Hwy, Hamilton, Montana
Tickets $35 each.
Make plans for Sunday March 12th at 3:00 pm for a very unique concert in the Living Room of the Daly Mansion. Enjoy Haydn and Mozart’s piano works performed as they intended them to be heard — in a private home on a period instrument.
During the Classical era in Vienna, composers expected their keyboard music to entertain relatively small audiences in more intimate settings than today’s large concert halls. And, the era’s pianos (known as “fortepianos”) are very different from modern Steinways.
The Daly Mansion in Hamilton is offering you this unique chance to experience the Classical era, so get your tickets now!
Fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz is based in Vienna and studied Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at Vienna’s University for Music and Performing Arts. He performs on historic Viennese fortepianos, utilizing the vast range of tones, colors, and techniques familiar to Classical-era composers.
Follow these video links to learn more about the artist, the instrument, and this one of a kind classical concert experience coming to the Bitterroot Valley next month!
