Weekend PICKS: Thursday, May 11th thru Sunday, May 14th
The sweet spot of spring has arrived, and it is glorious! Thousands of families are in town for UM Graduation and they’ll have plenty of great choices right here with our Weekend PICKS from The MUG. Sunday is Mother’s Day – spend some time with your favorite mom! The KettleHouse Amphitheater concert season kicks off Saturday with a sold-out show headlining Brett Young and Morgan Evans.
Summer Farmers Markets season is underway in Missoula, with a few more opening up this weekend in our area. Surf’s up on our local rivers. It’s green and pleasant everywhere. And it’s prime time to be outside anywhere.
The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
There are over 100 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend…we’ve got options!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of springtime weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton.
Patios have opened everywhere – get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages. Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for a spring hike, or get the bikes out for a big ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.
Please confirm event details at the source before you go. Last minute changes are common, especially due to weather. With each event listing, we try to include a web page or event link with more information you can check for changes.

Gilda House w/ Queenager & Jesse The Ocelot
The ZACC
216 W. Main Street, Missoula, Montana
$15 tickets
The Montana-based electronic duo, Gilda House, is out to snare your soul with their new single “Give Me Some”, a synthpop smasher that leans toward the shadow inside. The group is comprised of Tony Morales – guitar/keys/backing vocals/production, and the relentless engine of this machine, Meg Gildehaus – lead vocals/bass synth/writing/ engineering and production. Increasingly known for their energetic live show, Gilda House has been performing across their home state; not an easy task in the expanse of Montana. Playing the mainstage for Missoula’s State Pride Festival and opening for Milky Chance are a taste of the shows they are beginning to stack up, yet no matter the city, Gilda House is notorious. Their shows invite the audience in to be part of the mood, a part of the show. Feel the synths. Feel the bass. Forget where you are. Disappear.
Queenager is the combination of glitchy, punchy synth tones mixed with vocoded lyrical beauty that pierces listeners straight to the heart. The project was started in January 2020, and through the pandemic the duo Sarah Frazier and Bryan Kostors hunkered down together on a sexy synth wave mission. With the release of their debut album “Easy” in June 2021, Queenager is on the path to leading crowds to dancing bliss and leading the charge on making Montana a place for letting loose
Jesse The Ocelot is a multi-instrumentalist artist from the mountains of Bigfork, Montana. Now a veteran of the Missoula music scene, he plays a variety of genres and incorporates a healthy mix of originals and covers lead by his powerful vocals. He uses guitar, keys, percussion and vocal loops to create atmospheric landscapes that are heavily based on improvisation. Dreamy sounds of reverby, ethereal vocal harmonies and warm guitar melodies combined with jazzy, soulful style.

Jamie Wyman Band
Great Northern Bar
27 Central Ave, Whitefish, Montana
Jamie Wyman Band deliver a unique blend of heavy folk rock that is both anthemic and focused on the importance of each lyric. Their music recreates the qualities of unconditional love: it tells all the truths, sees you for who you really are, and brings you through the dark back into the light where hope reigns. The music soothes in times of inner conflict and unites in times of global conflict. This is not fast food pop music, it speaks directly to your emotions and challenges us all to build a better version of ourselves and humanity.
JWB released their first studio album in July 2022. “Roads Less Traveled” was all heart and represents the gentler side of their repertoire. In 2023, they will release a series of singles that will bring in the heavier rock end of their spectrum and you will find them on stage at Under the Big Sky Festival. You can listen, learn more, and join their email list at www.jamiewymanband.com.

Barefoot in the Park
Cutler Bros. Theatre
301 Main St, Deer Lodge, Montana
$20 tickets plus convenience fee
About this event
The Cutler Brother’s 19th Summer Theatre Season in Deer Lodge will kick off with one of Neil Simon’s most popular plays in “Barefoot in the Park” this May. Cutler Bros. Theatre will also produce Disney’s “Tarzan” this June and “Willy Wonka” in late July into August.
“Barefoot in the Park” is a simple story set in New York City and with a small cast. Corie Bratter (Jerrika Marjerison) and her husband Paul (Joshua Pentland) move into a “not so plush” New York high-rise and quickly discover many a problem with their new living space. Corie is energetic and spunky while Paul is more of the business-type, and these diverse personalities naturally cause some friction laying the groundwork for the play.
Jaycee Wood makes her Cutler Bros. debut and plays the overbearing mother of Corie while Steve Collins of Anaconda will play the well-traveled and witty Victor Velasco. Steve first stepped on stage in Deer Lodge last season as the rabbi in “Fiddler on the Roof.” Rounding out the cast is the phone repair man played by a Deer Lodge-favorite Tom Gomola.
Erin Jewell is directing the show making this her third directorial assignment in the last 2 years. “I’m excited for the cast, they’re small but they’ll bring a punch,” said Jewell. She went on, “Summer Theatre has become a special thing in this community and I’m happy to be at the helm for the first show of the season.”
“Barefoot in the Park” tickets are $20 and may be purchased at cutlerbros.com or by reserving at (406) 846-4096. Shows run May 5th – 21st , Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. All showings take place at the Cutler Bros. Theatre in Deer Lodge. For more information please visit the website or call the box office number listed above.

Jaden Decker
The Old Post
103 W. Spruce Street, Missoula, Montana
Jaden Decker is a country music performer from Missoula, Montana. Drawing on his family’s midwestern roots, Jaden’s music is fueled by a goal to blend country/americana with a psychedelic jam-band sound, to ultimately create his labeled genre of “Rocky Mountain Country.” The 16-year-old played 70+ shows in 2022, embarking on two national tours already, which were both completely independently booked.
Jaden’s live performance consists of him and his acoustic guitar, accompanied by a pedalboard, which greatly adds to the jam-band sound, previously mentioned. Decker knows how to get a crowd moving, and his live set reflects that beautifully. Taking the audience on a journey, they are not only left in awe by the 16-year-old, but it feels as if there is also a connection created between Jaden and the crowd.
