Weekend PICKS: Thursday, September 28th thru Sunday, October 1st
Wait, what happened to September? The MUG has compiled the most comprehensive list of events in Missoula and around Western Montana, all right here for you to make your own Weekend PICKS!
It’s Homecoming Weekend at the University of Montana! There’ll be lots of Griz Alumni in town for all the festivities including Griz Volleyball’s Brawl of the Wild match vs. Montana State, and the Pep Rally Bonfire on the UM Campus Oval Friday night. Saturday morning is the Griz Homecoming Parade through Downtown Missoula, and then Griz Football vs. Idaho State happening at 2:00 pm at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
Summer Farmers Markets season is winding down, with many of the area markets hitting their final weekend dates – Columbia Falls (Thursday), St. Ignatius (Friday), and the Missoula People’s Market at Pine & Higgins, Hot Springs, and the Lone Rock Market in Stevensville (Saturday). Go stock up with all the fall produce while you can.
The Montana Brewers Fall Rendezvous happens at Missoula’s Caras Park Friday, with live music from North Fork Crossing and The Cactus Cuts.
Missoula’s music venues will be hoppin’ with Jai Wolf at The Wilma on Friday; Buckcherry at The Wilma on Saturday; and Rootz Within plays a free reggae show at The Top Hat on Saturday. The Badlander has a double bill featuring cover bands for Nirvana and DEVO on Friday. In Florence, the Rustic Hut has a grand re-opening weekend showing off their new stage, sound and lighting with Kyle Hunter & The Mountain Standard performing Friday, and Cash for Junkers on Saturday.
If country music is your thing, The Sunrise Saloon has their Hoedown Showdown Country Dance Competition Saturday night, with music after by ShakeDown County keeping it moving til the cows come home.
MTB Missoula’s annual Bike Ball is happening Saturday at Free Cycles, with raffles, door prizes, bike jousting (!), and music by The Skurfs.
There are over 90 local music shows of one kind or another in the area throughout the weekend… we have options!
You’ll wanna keep a little in the tank for Sunday. The Historical Museum Fort Museum has their annual Fall Harvest Festival. And…there are GOAT RACES at Highlander Beer on Sunday afternoon!
No matter what direction you wanna get outta town, you can’t go wrong. Lots of early fall weekend activities and events are happening not only around Missoula, but all the way up the Flathead and the Bitterroot valleys, east to Phillipsburg and Anaconda, and out west past Alberton. If you’re headed up to Glacier, there are some outstanding pit stops to make along the way.
Get out and enjoy our locally-owned bars & restaurants with Montana grown / made food and beverages – if you hadn’t gotten the memo recently, they need your business! Try a new local brew! Support our local farmers and crafts people at the farmers markets. Take the family for a crisp fall hike, or get the bikes out for a cool ride. Catch a classic movie screening or a stand-up comedy night. Stretch that big brain at one of the local trivia nights. Sing your favorite karaoke song, or catch a live music show. Enjoy safely and responsibly.

The letter that you wrote me
– Eagles, “Already Gone”
Made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right
Just remember this, my girl, when you look up in the sky
You can see the stars and still not see the light
