Weekend Event Picks – July 9th thru 12th

Summertime, sum-sum-sum-summertime. In consideration of the current COVID-19 environment, many events have been cancelled and/or severely curtailed – but there are plenty of #virtualmissoula events listed on The MUG Events calendar (powered by MissoulaEvents.net), and nearly unlimited opportunities to get outside for healthy recreation. Fishing is hitting prime time on our area rivers, and the water’s beginning to warm up a little and drop enough for flows to begin being kayak and SUP float-friendly (beginners my want to wait a couple more weeks before throwing the ol’ inner tubes in the water, though). Outdoor music, movies, farmers markets, food trucks, mountain bike racing – and hockey? Be safe, drive sober, and have an awesome July weekend!

RACE OVERVIEW
We are so stoked to say that Thursday Night Race League is still happening! Whitefish Mountain Resort is still the place to race mountain bike on Thursday nights!
That being said we do have some new pandemic precaution’s in place now- The State of Montana has extended group gatherings to 50 people, so we are limiting each race to 40 racers. Therefore we are also asking that you please limit bringing friends and family members to the race with you in an effort to not go over the maximum number of people allowed by the Flathead County Health Dept.
Online registration opens each week on Monday at 8am and closes at 5:00pm on race day. With only 40 weekly entries available, this will help ensure those who register actually have the time to race that week.
There will be no food this year, but our sponsors are coming on with great raffles and prizes.

Tracy Hall Art Opening
Zootown Arts Community Center
216 W Main St
Missoula MT 59802
Phone: 406-549-7555
Description:
The ZACC is thrilled to host an In-Progress Series by Tracy Hall in our Blackfoot Gallery for the month of July, with an opening reception on July 10, 2020, from 5 to 8 PM.
Tracy Hall is a Missoula, MT artist and writer whose work deals with daily emotional processes through natural phenomena and mythology. Her current series, Binding, utilizes drawing, embroidery, garment construction, and bookmaking to explore different perspectives of what it means to be bound, whether in obligation, under duress, or as an affirmative choice.
Binding is an in-progress series of pieces centered around human interaction with nature and the ways wilderness can feel at turns threatening or benign. It mainly features work with ballpoint pen and embroidery. The pieces explore different ideas of ‘binding,’ such as constriction, mutual contract, and holding things together with thread. In several of the pieces, Tracy focused on a common theme of binding flowers or branches to animals’ legs or disembodied human hands. These instances of binding are up for interpretation—as ritual acts, they might be positive, suggesting commitment or sacredness, or they might limit and stifle.
Max capacity will be capped at 30, with a counter at the door. Face coverings are required as per ZACC policy. Support local art in a safe way, and come see this incredible show.

Missoula, MT 59801
Phone: 406-546-0370

Our clinics begin at Frenchtown Pond or Harper’s Lake, where we start with an equipment overview and develop a sense of underwater comfort. We introduce basic whitewater kayaking skills, such as the wet exit, stern draw, reverse and forward sweeps, rudder, forward stroke, hip snaps, and T-rescues. In the afternoon, we head to the river and paddle a Class I – mellow, moving water – section of either the Blackfoot or Clark Fork River. (Our choice here is dependent on water levels.) On the river we focus on river safety and awareness, boat control, eddy turns, ferries, and the Eskimo roll. The following day we apply everything we learned prior and paddle a section of the Clark Fork or Blackfoot Rivers. Missoula, Montana offers some of the best instructional rivers in the world, making it the perfect place to learn to kayak!
This foundational clinic includes the following skills:
Kayak outfitting
Wet exits

Beginner stroke progression
Boat control and edging
Hip snaps
T-rescues, swimming, and self-rescue
